TThhoorr: Can someone explain to me whether the protest is against ASUU or the FG because logically speaking ASUU is the only functioning educational body which is still strong and able to strand up to this hypocritical Democratic government since 1990s apparently you guys failed to realize that the government only understands strike as the language that calls for attention because its bad for politics apart from our tertiary institutions the primary and secondary school educational level in this country are all in a state of decay some schools doesn't have even a single desk for students or other materials that are the duty of the government both state and federal to provide the only thing that made our universities to be different is because of ASUU of which of it fails in its duty the universities will also be like the rest simply saying if you can't support b them don't add insult to their injuries for the sake of others It should be against the federal government or the Nigeria government both federal and state even local. They're all complicit in the rot in our educational system |

Education › Re: ASUU Or FG: Who Is To Blame For The Six Months Strike? by Xsem(m): 6:19pm On Oct 05, 2020 |
Saintinoo: And you think FG loses anything because ASUU is on strike? Students are the ones losing and same students are not doing anything about the strike action. My thought exactly. The students need to protesr against the fg or state govt to display their grievances and displeasure. This i believe will ginger the govt to do the needful. We might also protest not only by going out enmasse but also in writing. But the spoiler is that you might come out to protest and lose your life. The govt is losing ooo, you know they generate money from our fees. It's part of the IGR we are talking about |

olawalepopoola: For those six months private Universities students attended lectures, wrote examination, defended thesis and had their convocation Well, most private universities are very much equipped to undertake such. The average Nigeria citizen complains of the meager fees being paid in the fg and state owned universities, how much more what is obtainable in private universities like covenant, Babcock, igbenedion , madonna etc. Those private schools are were rich men, top men, ship captains , politicians keep their wards because either they need to correct their excesses or they don't want them to go to waste. In private university, freedom is tightly limited. Those big men since they don't have time to protect, control or train their wards resort to flying them to abroad schools or private universities within the state. So, you can't compare. They're meant to have the resources if not, they have failed just like our own failed national universities. |

Pancakeey: The strike is six months.
Let's face it ASUU could have carried out online classes during the lockdown but they didn't because they were on strike. So yes the strike is 6 months not two months.
Strike doesmt start when ASUU sends us home. No. Strike starts when we don't have classes. there have been times we've been on strike and peopl still stayed in school.
Strike is 6 months Well, in that sense you might assume so but how many schools have the resources to conduct online classes ?? Even if the schools provide the lecturers with those, how about the students? |

The strike in the whole truth is just 2 months old , it started on March, we went on lockdown ending of march till September. In fact, the strike action is not even upto 2months old if you analyse critically. So if ASUU don't make their demands through strike actions, which other viable way can you think of? The govt here doesn't value education. Compare the case of NLC and ASUU. Immediately they coughed strike, see how frantic fg was to resolve the strike.
You people keep saying ASUU should find another alternative, which other alternative. Common protest to demand for better government by the citizens is met by the brutal force and resistance of the security personnel of the country.
MODIFIED: I assumed about 2 months because it's now that westarted feeling the strike. Who cares about strike when the country is on total lockdown? So those months we were on lockdown don't count to me. I hope you guys get my point now |

TuroDee: Remember that schools were closed down due to the COVID-19 Pandemic in March,The Federal Government had on Friday, announced that Federal Government-owned tertiary institutions in Nigeria, as well as Federal Government Colleges, otherwise known as Unity Schools, will reopen on October 12th for the continuation of academic activities.
State and Private universities are also expected to decide on their resumption date and resume accordingly.
he Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, addressing a press conference in Abuja, said the decision to reopen the schools was due to the fall in the COVID-19 cases across the country.
He said: “We have consulted widely with stakeholders in the sector including the Association of Private Schools (NAPPS), Provosts of Colleges of Education, Rectors of Polytechnics, Vice-Chancellors of Universities, State Governors, Commissioners of Education and other development partners on the matter and secured their support and cooperation.”
He cautioned schools to abide by the COVID-19 protocol put in place to ensure that students are safe and their health not at risk.
