Jokes Etc / Police, Soldiers Clash In Mile 12 by xtan(m): 4:45pm On Nov 14, 2008
Operatives of the Lagos state security outfit, Rapid Response Squad, RRS, early this morning, engaged a soldier in a brawl, resulting in the burning of a police van opposite the popular Mile 12 market in Lagos.

A resident told P.M.News that the incident happened between 1.30 a.m. and 2 a.m., after the downpour. The soldier was said to be trying to pick a prostitute by the road side when the RRS van pulled up beside them.

P.M.News gathered that a heated argument ensued between the policemen and the soldier, and the latter was shot in the arm. Investigations revealed that the injured soldier left and came back with other soldiers, all armed. But before they arrived, the policemen had left, leaving their vehicle behind.

“The infuriated soldiers set the police van ablaze and even waited to see if the policemen would come back. They later left in annoyance,” an eyewitness disclosed.

A shop owner, who refused to disclose her identity, said: “We are afraid of the situation now because we don’t know what will happen later. The security operatives can come now and start picking up innocent persons who had nothing to do with the incident.”

Many shops and stalls around the area were still shut as at the time of filing this report. Lagos State Police Command spokesman, Mr. Frank Mba, could also not be reached as at the time of filing this report.
