A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mike Ozekhome, has clarified that the Supreme Court of Nigeria only paused the new naira note policy. Ozekhome who appeared on Channels Television on Wednesday night in an interview monitored by The News Chronicle noted that the apex court will still have to decide on the matter.

It would be recalled that a seven-man panel of the Supreme Court on Wednesday, led by Justice John Okoro in a unanimous ruling granted an interim injunction restraining the Federal Government from implementing the CBN’s February 10 deadline for the swapping of the old naira notes with the new ones...

Justice Nnamdi Digmba of the Federal High Court, Abuja on Wednesday, sentenced the duo of Victor Briggs and Abiye Membere, both former top officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC to two years imprisonment after he found them guilty for “Unethically collecting car gifts as public officials,” an offense which contravenes Section 98 of the Criminal Code Act,

A coalition of civil rights organisations (CSOs) have kicked against the Supreme Court Judgement that suspended the new naira note policy. The CSOs noted that the judgement is a setback for a cashless economy.

The News Chronicle earlier reported that the Supreme Court of Nigeria temporarily suspended the CBN’s new currency policy and extended the deadline for the currency swap beyond February 10, 2023.

A N203.55 billion final dividend, totaling N10 per share, has been proposed by MTN Nigeria Communications (MTNN) to be paid to all shareholders of the firm for the fiscal year 2022.

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have successfully dismantled a trans-border drug cartel and arrested five leaders of the syndicates operating in parts of the world in a special operation that lasted weeks during which different quantities of skunk, methamphetamine and ephedrine as well as air compressors used to conceal and distribute them globally were recovered.

The Central Bank of Nigeria on October 26, 2022 announced its plan to redesign N200, N500 and N1,000 notes. On November 23, 2022, President Muhammadu Buhari, subsequently unveiled the redesigned N200, N500 and N1,000 notes and the apex bank fixed January 31 deadline for the expiration of the old notes.

Reacting to this development, the Sokoto State Chapter of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), Barrister Muhammad Mansur Aliyu has appealed to the Federal Government to extend the deadline by at least two weeks.
