A witness of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu identified himself as female while seeking admission in the Chicago State University, USA.

Mike Enahoro-Ebah, who was subpoenaed by the PDP to the Presidential Election Petitions Court, said Tinubu, in forwarding a transcript of the South West College in USA in 1977, used the name ‘Bola Adekunle Tinubu’ and identified himself as female.

The PDP also tendered certified copies of a notarised judgement of US court on the forfeiture of the sum of $460,000 and a copy of Guinean passport against Tinubu.

A five-member panel of justices presided by Justice Haruna Tsammani admitted them after taking the objections by counsel to the INEC, Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN); Tinubu, Emmanuel Ukala (SAN) and the APC, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN).


Under cross examination by counsel to INEC, the witness denied spending a lot of money to pursue the case against Tinubu, submitting that the lawyer partner in the US obtained the documents free of charge.

The witness also admitted that he was pained when his candidate lost the February 25 presidential election.

He claims to be a master strategist and could not counter Atiku with his proven and verifiable $1.77 million dollar bribe payments from Siemens confirmed by United States Senate in order to have him withdraw his case with CSU.

It is absurd to think that after all brouhaha and shame Tinubu has brought to this country over the past 24 hours he will make a public resignation speech but unfortunate nothing has been said by the presidency or national assembly. This silence has shown a direct disdain and disrespect to Nigerians who are forced to bear the consequences of this shame that has plagued social media and international media since the news broke over the president's forged documents. Tinubu should bury his head in shame for his cowardly approach to the crisis. Our legislators who claim to represent Nigerians should also bury their heads in shame for failing to speak up or do the needful in an event like this that has international dimension and far reaching global damage to Nigeria's image. It is indeed sad that Nigerians have no one in government to fight for them or represent them in this trying times. In a sane society Tinubu should've resigned by now and an independent investigation should've been instituted against him and INEC to ascertain the degree of irregularities that occured during the 2023 presidential election.

Controversy has continued to trail the authenticity of the Diploma Certificate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu claimed to have obtained from the Chicago State University, CSU.

The President used the certificate to secure final clearance for participation in the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the All Progressive Congress, APC.

In the latest development, a top official of CSU, Mr Carl Westberg, on Tuesday said that a replacement copy of the Diploma certificate Tinubu submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, was not from the Institution.

Westberg, who is the Registrar of the university, speaking under oath, specifically told the court that he was seeing the Diploma certificate copy for the very first time in the instant proceedings.

The subpoenaed witness testified on oath on the order of Judge Nancy Maldonado to back up the order for release of academic documents of Tinubu to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Atiku Abubakar, who participated in the February 25, 2023 presidential election along with Tinubu, had challenged the declaration of the APC candidate as winner of the election on various grounds.

Among the grounds are that Tinubu was not qualified to have stood for the election on the grounds that he submitted forged documents on oath to INEC to secure eligibility.

In pursuit of his claim, Atiku had applied to a US District Court to issue an order compelling the CSU to release Tinubu’s academic records to him for verification and authentication.

Following his success at the US court, the CSU was ordered to release the academic records to him and to back up the release of the documents with deposition by an official of the institution.

In compliance with the order of the court, Westberg who testified on oath that Tinubu’s Diploma certificate, which he claimed to have obtained from the university, and which he used to secure clearance for participation in the presidential election, is not a document of the university.

For example, the witness admitted that the Institution had no board of trustees in 1979, as against the claim in the certificate Tinubu submitted to the electoral body.

When pressed on the signatures on other certificates issued in 1979 and the one Tinubu submitted to INEC, the witness admitted variations in signature, logo, and seal.

Specifically, Westberg pointed out that the signature on the replacement certificate of Tinubu matches certificates issued in the 1990s and not those of 1979, as claimed by the President.

Meanwhile, a certified true copy of the deposition and cross examination is expected to be handed over to Atiku to further establish his allegation of forgery against Tinubu.

It would be recalled that the final leg of Atiku’s case, seeking disqualification of Tinubu from the 2023 presidential election, is now pending before the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

The process is that the vendor must first verify from the school before producing replacement diploma but the Registrar stated that they have no replacement request from tinubu so where did he get the certificate from?

At the end of the day, the Tinubu forgery of cert issue may not result in anything because there is due process that must be followed. Its not automatic.
Note the following

1. Under the constitution, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty. So despite what folks may think or say about forged certificates, Mr Tinubu is presumed innocent until found guilty of forgery.

2. To be found guilty of forgery, a person with locus standi must file a suit of forgery against him at the High Court. Supreme court will not hear a case of forgery that has not passed through the lower courts. Its not enough to make allegations at the supreme court hearings.

3. The high court case must be completed with a guilty verdict before this can be useful anywhere

4. The constitution also says that a siting president is immune from prosecution. i.e how do you file a forgery case against a sitting president. It can't be done. You must wait until he is either defeated in 2027 or he has served his second term before anyone can bring a case of forgery against him.

If a case of forgery is brought against him now , the court will throw it out because he is immune to prosecution be virtue of being a sitting president.

The on going supreme court hearings is not the place to bring charges of forgery.
