emusmith:
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the manifesto of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as unrealistic, saying it is meant to deceive and misdirect the electorates.

According to the ruling party, the opposition’s promise to pay N5, 000 monthly stipend each to 25 million poor Nigerians would amount to N125 billion monthly and N1.5 trillion every year. At a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, said this cannot be achieved, given the poor state of the nation’s economy and dwindling oil revenue.“What is baffling is that the APC knows fully well that this is not only unrealistic but also impracticable in a nation with an estimated budget of N4.69 trillion comprising recurrent and capital expenditures yet they continue to dish it out to unsuspecting citizens in a clear bid to mislead.

“Since its formation about two years ago, the APC has introduced and sustained an unfortunate political streak sustained majorly by lies, character assassination, false alarm, wild allegations, and lately visual simulation, all in the desperation to deceive and misdirect the judgment of the electorates.

“We have with us an opposition party, which has been deploying all manner of schemes to derail and compromise the electoral process. Today, if the APC is not instigating violence or threatening democracy and our very existence as a nation, the party is busy procuring criminal hi-tech to hack into INEC’s data-base or clone the Permanent Voters Card (PVC).

“The next day, the same party would connive with some unscrupulous electoral officers to deny non-indigenes in some selected States their PVCs while busy making bogus promises to the electorates,” Metuh said. The PDP also faulted what it described as the opposition’s promise to create 740, 000 direct jobs in each of the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory within one year, with one million jobs for Igbo youths within the same period.

Continuing, Metuh said: “The APC has also promised to provide free education, daily free meals for millions of Nigerian school children, free tertiary education, free health care and free houses to Nigerians. The opposition knows too well that this is unrealistic yet they prefer to brandish falsehood.
.
“The APC should explain to Nigerians how they would fulfill their promises with the prevailing 40 per cent drop in national income and dwindling oil price in the international market. “

Fayose Fights Soul Mate Over Certificate Scandal, Campaign Fund Fraud

Fayose's confidant and soul mate in fraud world and PDP candidate for the House of Assembly election,Talabi Odunayo Arinka, is in trouble over certificate scandal compounded by outsmarting his governor friend in a N9million campaign fund fraud.
Arinka had claimed in his INEC form to have attended Christ School, Ado-Ekiti, where he claimed he sat and passed his school certificate examination.
Those who know Arinka's education background squealed, confirming that he was admitted to Christ's School but he never completed his secondary school examination there. Arinka is a loud name in 419 world.
Fayose later got to know about the certificate scandal and tried to help him, but it was too late. INEC substitution of candidates had long closed and so there was little Fayose could do to save his friend.
Arinka's problem with Fayose was compounded when the former on behalf of the governor collected N3m each from the senatorial candidate of PDP in Ekinti Central, Mrs Fatima Rasaki, and her rival in the primary, Lati Ajijola, and another candidate totalling N9million which he never delivered to the governor. Fayose had told the candidates that they needed to donate the money for campaign, even though Fayose had already collected N100m from Abuja for the same purpose.
The bubble burst when Fayose got to know about the fraud. Subsequently, Fayose withdrew a Hilux van and security agents attached to Arinka and sent him packing, asking him never to come near him again.
This was after he sought to manipulate the INEC to substitute the candidate believing he would get away with it, but he failed. He also toyed with the idea of using the court to grant order for replacement after forcing Arinka to resign on personal reasons. His lawyers counseled him against the move on account that the details of Arinka's perjury are well known in the opposition camp. Going to court will therefore not help.
By this development, Arinka has forfeited his candidature. His constituency has also lost out because candidates substitution has elapsed. Reports say Fayose is thinking of supporting another candidate from another party who will be willing to defect to PDP if he wins.
Ekiti Vigilantes can confirm that almost all PDP candidates were imposed by Fayose. Except Mrs Rasaki, the basic requirement for the candidates is if they belong to the club of "guy men" who understand the language of one another. Another qualification is if such candidate is good in street fight. Take a cursory look at many of the candidates, you will discover that they fit the bill.
The Vigilantes will let you know other details as they emerge.

FUL L TEXT OF LETTER FROM ALHAJI SHEHU
SHAGARI TO BUHARI
My brother, you have contested the
Presidential elections 3 times in this
country and in all these times, you have
never asked me or my people at Shagari
village to support your bid. It is very
obvious why you can’t do that. You don’t
have the courage after what you did to me.
You truncated democracy with a dastardly
coup and took away power from me. You
humiliated me and made me to suffer, and
you took away my opportunity to RULE
Nigeria. You said you do not want
democracy in Nigeria.. The same democracy
you truncated, you are fighting hard to get
with desperation and diabolical power.
You have entered into unholy alliance with
some known elements of disunity in the
south but let me warn you.
You will suffer hard in the hands of Tinubu
and his political merchants who will use
and dump you as they did to Nuhu. In
2011, you cried publicly when you lost
election, and you made provocative and
inciting statements that plunged this
country into untoward unrest. You
provoked our hot-blooded youths with war
cries which erupted into post election
violence, that brought Boko Haram into
existence, over 500 innocent Nigerians died
instantly, most of them youth corpers
deployed from one of the unifying agencies
of this country. Personally, I do not have a
problem with your ambition.
It is your arrogance that bothers me. If you
cannot summon the courage to ask me and
my family to vote for you because you know
we would not, why do you think Nigerians
would look kindly on your past record of
destroying a progressing democratic
institutions painfully put in place by some
respected fathers of this nations like
Awolowo and Azikiwe. No my brother. It is
time to wake up from your delusion and do
the needful if you still have some
conscience.
I am not writing this to you with vengeance
intention. I am a practicing Muslim and we
leave matters of vengeance to Allah. I write
to you as a Nigerian, your brother and a
statesman who is deeply concerned. Quit
the presidential race now and save this
country from the dangling sword of
Damocles being menacingly wield by the
crooks who surround you. This elections is
not about you or President Goodluck
Jonathan. It is about the unity of Nigeria
which can only be assured by being fair. By
this I mean, being fair to the people of
Niger Delta.
We can only do this by either re-electing
Goodluck or substitute him with any of his
kinsmen from the South-south as that can
only count fair for a people who are
entitled to 8 years in the office of the
President. For the elders council in the
north, we have come to the conclusion to
work towards realizing that fairness. 4
years more is not eternity. It is
not too
much of a concession for us to make to
move Nigeria forward as one indivisible
and united country under one God.
May Allah open your mind to see reason.
God bless Nigeria.

He does not want GEJ back. His grouse with GEJ is that since he came, he is no longer making money the way he was making from contracts. He confirmed that though his money now comes straight into his account without interference, that he preferred the pre-Jonathan era when things were not as tight. That now, they check the validity of any contract before money is paid out and the guy dey fall hand for business.

Then I asked him what do you think in his performance in Agriculture(Adesina), he said he has done well
I mentioned Aganga(Trade and investment) he said very well. he said NOI has done well too and went ahead to add the minister for works mike Onolememen. He said the man has done well too. Transport, he is impressed

And I asked, why won't you vote for him since you know all these? He said, he is not feeling him in his business. He wants things to go back to easier ways.

I told him about Sam Ohuabunwa's opening statement in his article where he said that good performance means different things to different people. He was a typical example of people who want him out because his reforms have reduced undue profit.

Story for the deads and clueless fellow like you.....tell your pay master to increase the figure on his cheque......u need more articles .....sai buhari till jesus come

claycares:
Between 1983 and 1985, Peter Onu of Nigeria was Acting Secretary-General of the OAU. At the 1985 Summit in Addis Ababa, statesmen like Julius Nyerere, President of Tanzania, lobbied for his election as substantive Secretary-General. However, there was a major stumbling block to Peter Onu’s candidature: his Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, was campaigning against him.

Buhari claimed: “This generation of Nigerians and indeed future generations have no other country than Nigeria.” But when the crunch came, his allegiance to Nigeria disappeared. In the election of the OAU Secretary-General in 1985, Buhari voted against Nigeria and for Niger instead. He secured the election of Ide Oumarou, a Fulani man from Niger; as opposed to an Igbo man from Nigeria. By so doing, Buhari became the first and only Head of State in the history of modern international relations to vote against his country in favour of his tribe.

Years later, General Buhari marched all the way from Daura to Ibadan to demand of Oyo State Governor, Lam Adeshina: “Why are your people killing my people?” Again, he was not referring to Nigerians as his people. Instead, he was an advocate for the rights of murderous Fulani herdsmen who killed Yoruba farmers that objected to their cattle grazing on their land and damaging their crops. This same Buhari who voted against Nigeria in 1985, and said in 2003: “Muslims should only vote those who will promote Islam,” is now shopping for votes nationwide. He should be rejected outright.

Ignorance running riot

If APC had wanted to be taken seriously, it would have come up with a better presidential material than Buhari. There is something anomalous about a party whose mantra is change, recycling a 73 year old man as its candidate for the president of modern Nigeria. Buhari has little or no understanding of public policy. That is why APC will always come up with some excuse or the other not to have him participate in a debate with Jonathan. Buhari fought corruption by imposing ridiculous 300-year sentences on offenders. He fought exam malpractices by imposing 24-year prison sentences on school children.

He dealt with indiscipline by flogging people to queue at bus-stops. He dealt with food shortages by sending soldiers to break into private warehouses and shops. He fought trade imbalances by taking Nigeria back to the stone age of trade by barter (counter-trade). He sought to extradite a Nigerian from Britain by drugging and crating him.

There is so much about Buhari ending the Boko Haram insurgency as he did the Maitatsine insurgency in the 1980s. But the General needs to be advised that Boko Haram is not Maitatsine. Maitatsine was in two towns: Boko Haram is in three states with spillover effects into others. Maitatsine fought with bows and arrows: Boko Haram fights with sophisticated weapons. Maitatsine was a local insurgency, Boko Haram is an international phenomenon.

Anti-corruption hypocrisy: Buhari does not know what corruption means and how to fight it. He became Nigeria’s Head of State through the corruption of a coup d’état and he then tried to fight corruption with corruption. Imposing retroactive decrees and killing Nigerians under them is corruption. Putting an Igbo vice-president in Kirikiri, while placing the Fulani president under palatial house arrest, is corruption.

Detaining people like Michael Ajasin in jail, even after they were discharged and acquitted by kangaroo courts, is corruption. Jailing journalists for telling the truth is corruption. Putting pressure on a judge in order to jail Fela Anikulapo-Kuti is corruption. Shepherding 53 suitcases of contraband unchecked through Customs during a currency change exercise is corruption. Swearing an affidavit that your school-leaving certificate is with the military when it is not, is corruption.

Transforming Nigeria: Buhari’s shameful past is dwarfed by the achievements of Goodluck Jonathan. Under Jonathan, Nigeria has emerged as by far the largest economy in Africa with a GDP of $503 billion; nearly double the previous estimates. South Africa now comes a distant second with $350 billion. With the unbundling of PHCN after 52 years of gridlock, and with now the realizable target of 20,000 megawatts of electricity by 2020, Nigeria’s GDP will soon double that of South Africa.

CNN Money projects that the fastest growing economy in the world in 2015 will be China (7.3% growth rate); followed by Qatar (7.1%); and then followed by Nigeria (7%). This belies all the misinformation about the Nigerian economy dished out by the APC and attests to the astute management of the economy by the Jonathan administration. The seemingly ambitious Vision 20 2020, proclaimed under the Abacha regime to make Nigeria one of the 20 largest economies in the world by 2020 is now well in sight. Today, Nigeria is already the 23rd largest economy in the world. Kudos to Jonathan, we have overtaken such European countries as Austria and Belgium.

Life expectancy

In 2010, when Jonathan became acting president, life expectancy in Nigeria was 47 years. Today, it is 54 years; an improvement of seven years. Adroit application of SURE-P funds has reduced the maternal mortality ratio in Nigeria by 26%. Under Jonathan, Nigeria has become Guinea Worm-free; a disease previously affecting 800,000 Nigerians yearly. In the last six months, there has been no new case of polio in Nigeria. If this goes on for another two and a half years, Nigeria will be declared polio-free.
Bill Gates, the richest man in the world, hailed Nigeria’s fight against polio as one of the great world achievements of 2014. He said: “The infrastructure Nigeria has built to fight polio actually made it easier for them to swiftly contain Ebola. The fact that Nigeria is now Ebola-free is a great example of how doing the work to fight things like fighting polio also leaves countries better prepared to deal with outbreaks of other diseases.”

Investors’ haven: In the last three years, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has ranked Nigeria as the number one country for foreign investments in Africa. We also receive more home-remittances than any other African country; a vote of confidence in our economy by Nigerians living abroad. They remitted $23 billion in 2013, a figure far more than the $18 billion received by Egypt; the country with the second highest home remittance in Africa. It is a testament to Goodluck Jonathan’s adroit management of the Nigerian economy that the richest African is now a Nigerian.

In 2010, when Jonathan came to power, Aliko Dangote was the 463rd richest man in the world, with a total fortune of $2.1 billion. Today, he is the 23rd richest man in the world, with a total fortune of $25 billion. Dangote’s billions are “made in Nigeria.” Indeed, under Jonathan, Nigeria now has the fourth highest rate of returns on investments in the world, according to UNCTAD.

Crisis of unemployment

The big challenge has to do with jobs. Every year, another 1.8 million people are offloaded into the job market. However, while the APC says Buhari will create 720,000 jobs a year if elected, Jonathan created 1.6 million jobs in 2013. He has established such innovative programmes as Nagropreneurs and YOUWIN that support young farmers and entrepreneurs with grants, training and mentorship. He has also instituted internship schemes to enhance the capacity of university graduates to secure gainful employment.

The unemployment problem is compounded by the more than doubling of the education budget under Jonathan. Every Nigerian child now has the opportunity to go to school. Indeed, there has been a 10 million increase in school enrolment in Nigeria under this government. There has also been a 75% increase in O’ Level credit pass in Maths and English. Jonathan established 125 Almajiri schools in 13 northern states. He also established 14 new federal universities. There is now a federal university in every state. Indeed, the kidnapping of the Chibok schoolgirls derives from the disenchantment of the Boko Haram that many Northern girls are now going to school.

Dealing with corruption: According to Transparency International, Nigeria has not become more corrupt under Goodluck Jonathan. Out of 178 countries ranked in 2010, Nigeria was the 134th most corrupt country. In 2014, Nigeria was ranked 136th. Unlike Buhari, Jonathan understands that corruption has to be attacked institutionally, from the roots. Therefore, he proposed the abrogation of the petroleum subsidy; one of the biggest avenues for corruption in government. However, Nigerians refused. Jonathan has sanitized the corruption in fertilizer distribution. The Minister of Agriculture, Akinwumi Adesina, lamented that between 1980 and 2010, Nigeria lost 776 billion naira to corrupt fertilizer racketeering.

Fertiliser racketeering

That effectively came to an end under Jonathan. Through the innovative e-wallet system, farmers are given cell-phones through which they now have direct and easy access to government-provided fertilizer, chemicals and seedlings. Jonathan has also sanitised the banking system by removing dinosaur managing directors, recovering indigent loans and using AMCON to mop up bad loans. By instituting e-payment systems, he sanitized the civil service by removing 50,000 ghost-workers in one fell swoop. He has equally got rid of ghost voters from the electoral register; over 1 million ghost voters were removed from the Zamfara INEC register alone. Under Jonathan, we have had free and fair elections one after the other; in Edo, Anambra, Ondo, Ekiti and Osun.

Agriculture has been transformed under this administration. Thanks to Jonathan, agriculture now accounts for 22% of Nigeria’s GDP, more than oil and gas which only account for 15.9%. Under Jonathan, Nigeria has recorded a more than 50% reduction in food imports. Prior to his presidency, we had a food import bill of 1.4 trillion naira. But now, it is less than N700 billion. With the innovation of dry season rice-farming, Nigeria has reached 60% self-sufficiency in rice production. According to the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), Nigeria is now the largest producer of cassava in the world. The Jonathan government built six strategically-located perishable cargo airports in Ilorin, Jalingo, Jos, Lagos, Makurdi andYola; in close proximity to Nigeria’s food baskets.

It is remarkable that Northern farmers were able to donate five million tubers of yam in order to raise 5 billion naira for Buhari’s presidential election campaign. If Jonathan’s transformation agenda in agriculture was not working as planned, they would not have been able to do this.

Has Buhari Shot Himself In The Foot? by Chinedu Rylan

At some point it all looked like Gen. Buhari and his All Progressives Congress (APC) team would pose a deadly serious threat to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and wreck their chances of returning the incumbent President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to power come May 29. But all the early good works and concerted efforts to win the sympathy and support of the masses, and gain their votes have been undone, almost single-handedly by the party itself.

Few weeks ago, it was safe to say that the winner of the February 14 Presidential election was anyone’s guess, bearing in mind that the two frontrunners in the elections were – and still are – neck-and-neck in terms of the number of core supporters they have been able to amass. Both, however, would have – and may still be – banking on the support of millions of undecided eligible Nigerian voters whose minds were yet to be made up on who to support and who not to support. Unfortunately, it now seems that the bulk of those erstwhile undecided voters are moving further away from the Progressives, if online sentiments and those in the streets are anything to go by.

I’ve come across several previously undecided voters, both online and offline, who are now almost certain that they will camp under the Umbrella. I went ahead to require of them what informed their decisions and almost all of them were united in their rationales for settling for the PDP. Assuming that I queried 50 persons about their reasons for shifting to the PDP, 45 of them told me that the APC and Muhammadu Buhari have played into the arms of the PDP.

Now, how has the APC and Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) played into the hands of the People's Democratic Party?

The PDP in their campaign trails and in their online push for reelection have never failed to remind us of how intolerant of any form of opposition, ideological or otherwise, GMB has been. They went as far back as his 1983-85 military regime where he put a host of opposing voices behind bars to buttress their point. One would have expected that the general, as a seasoned and elite politician that he is, would in response guard his utterances and be more watchful of what he says or does in the public and to the media, but the reverse has so far been the case.

In a protest letter recently channeled through the legal director of the APC Presidential Campaign Organization, Chukwuma-Machukwu Ume (SAN), General Buhari threatened to file a lawsuit against the federal government-owned Nigerian Television Authority and the privately owned African Independent Television for what he described as “hate documentaries” against him that were aired in the tail end last month by the stations, unless they retract them and issue a formal apology. Such threats and disposition by an aspiring office holder (or even a serving office holder) are rather uncalled for in a democratic setting. The world over, leaders and politicians are scrutinized and castigated by the media on a daily basis and it’s seen as part of their obligations as watchdogs in the society.

If world leaders should file a lawsuit for every alleged calumny or supposed act of “hate” they've been subjected to, then the mountain of lawsuits that would be filed by the likes of Barack Obama, David Cameron, Vladimir Putin or even our very own Goodluck Jonathan will take several generations of humanity to tackle. These leaders are lampooned on a daily basis yet you rarely hear them threatening to sue anyone for it. His own case shouldn't be any different. So my advice to the General is that the sooner he develops a thick skin to withstand all the media "assault," the better for him, because he will be receiving a truckload of it should he eventually win.

In like manner, the leadership of the APC is doing their presidential and vice presidential aspirants and their image as a whole no good by backing out of a series of debates organized by different corporate bodies and organizations within the country in the run-up to the Valentine’s Day polls. Their no-show at the Nigerian Elections Debate Group (NEDG)’s Vice Presidential debates and their anticipated no-show at the presidential debates to be organized by the trio of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria (NPAN), Arise News and ChannelsTV do nothing to gainsay the allegation leveled against them by the People’s Democratic Party of being fight shy of a public face-off in which they will have to tackle tough questions and defend their manifestos and party agenda before Nigerians.

Though the APC has come out to deny this allegation and have done their best to repudiate the "dodging theory" of the PDP by citing perceived bias on the part of the organizers of the debates as their reason for backing out, the average and neutral Nigerian on the streets is not buying it. The rebuttal has done very little to convince neutrals who are beginning to toe the PDP’s line. My advice to them is that they should vet their options and come up with a positive decision in time, before the election sets in.

For the sake of time and space, I will stop at these. These and many more PR missteps and political miscalculations have conspired to put the party in a precarious position and rob them of the people's goodwill which they once owned. In an election that will likely be decided by the undecided voters, the APC are fast losing speed and direction. Concerted efforts must be made to repair what has already been damaged and put their push for the country's top job back on track, else they run the risk of losing by a wide margin at the poll.
