Bad belle go kill una.
You guys didn't aee where she won the chancellor award among other awards. Come to think of it, she also won numerous awards in Nigeria.

Why not win your own awards and make Nigeria proud?

I don't have anything to prove to anybody. I got a 1st and then a distinction in my Masters, both from a uni that's not Oxbridge, but is definitely higher ranked than Reading (Top 10, according to most tables). But that's besides the point.

I'd feel embarrassed if a NATIONAL paper wrote about any of that... because there's nothing exceptional in it.

Lots of students from other nations get good grades in school, but it's only in Nigeria where it becomes national news.

This reminds me of the other girl a few years ago that was in the news for getting a 1st from Middlesex. Middlesex!

What's she up to now?

Whilst this is a good thing, it's hardly "national news".

We have to stop aggrandizing every small achievement by Nigerians, just because we're looking for something to celebrate. True, First Class no be beans; but it is a small achievement in the grand scheme of things.

I think a "better" thing to celebrate would be the Nigerian researchers abroad who do more meaningful work. One of my secondary school mates (still an undergrad) recently had a paper accepted at a major conference in her field (can't drop her name as I haven't cleared this with her). At the research group where I worked last year, we had a Nigerian postdoc with a DPhil from Cambridge... and there are lots of others doing research at one level or another.

To be fair, getting a 1st from a 3yr course where they disregard your first year results isn't exactly hard.

However, I'm happy for her and I can imagine how proud her parents must be.

This is a classic example of The Social Media Curse.

This girl is too short sighted. What exactly did she have in mind when writing this? We've seen pastors survive worse scandals.

Even if the story is true, she has damaged HER reputation irrevocably. This will be the first result on any web search for her name...

Hi inze.

I'm going to look at some cars today. Would it be possible for me to request a report on short notice via mobile?

I'd just need to know if the car been accidented, and its last recorded mileage.

Please let me know either way. Not sure of what incentives I could offer, though.

Ademola.

Thank you. What about 2012 Camry XLE?

Someone else already asked about that, but your response wasn't posted in the thread.

How many days does the process typically take between paying for the car, and having it cleared by Nigerian customs?

How much will 2009, 2010 and 2011 Camry XLE cost?

If possible, please also provide the cost for a 2012 Camry LE.

Thanks.

Sent From My Blackberry – Ask many employers, they will tell you how disappointed they were each time they received CVs in their email that simply says “I’m interested.” or “This is my CV.” And below it you see, ‘Sent from my blackberry’. Common grow up! This is very disrespectful. It also shows you are not matured and very unprofessional. What does it take to say something about yourself in the body of the mail and address your employer well?

This isn't too much of an issue. I actually recommend leaving it (or something similar), so the recipient of the email can tell that you're sending it on the move.

The email signature from my phone/tablet is "Sent via my mobile device".
Politics / Re: American Anthem Announced Before Nigeria’s At THISDAY Awards by yettak90: 11:34am On Feb 27, 2013
Julieccentric:

You have a point but I still think its pointless singing the US anthem..Who are we trying to please in the 1st place?

Bill Clinton (like all former US presidents) is an American dignitary and [s]he attended the event in an official capacity[/s] I've just realised that this was a private event even if the Gov. was there. State Event or not however, it's proper etiquette to perform the anthem of any foreign dignitaries present, if you're going to bother playing your own country's anthem.

That's how it's done everywhere.
Politics / Re: American Anthem Announced Before Nigeria’s At THISDAY Awards by yettak90: 11:20am On Feb 27, 2013

As stated before, this is just a small list of the various codes regarding anthem etiquette around the world. General rules should follow the above, as they seem to be universal. In addition, some other helpful guidelines are:

When multiple anthems are to be performed (such as honouring a visiting dignitary or sporting team from another country), the host nation's anthem is usually performed last.

In Western countries, men are generally required to remove their hat during the playing of the anthem, but ladies generally are not. (This is due to the centuries-old notion that a woman's hat is part of her outfit, while a man's is an accessory to it.)
It is not absolutely necessary to sing along to the anthem (especially if you don't know the words, although most anthem lyrics are on this site!)
Any national anthem, whether of your own or of another nation, should be treated equally (that is, one should stand up for both, be silent for both, and both should be treated with respect), regardless of your personal feelings toward the other nation. As stated on the main page of this website, learning about national anthems is a way to learn about other cultures and people, learning about others gives us respect for others, treating another's anthem the same as you would treat your own demonstrates that respect.

Nigerians tolerate the things they're supposed to get offended by, but they get riled up over silly issues.

I don't really mind where I get posted to. However, like everyone else, I won't willingly go to any of the volatile states.

Without having to pay an NYSC official, what's the procedure for changing the state of deployment after receiving your call-up letter ?

Education / Re: 16-Year-Old Boy Has 6 A's In Cambridge's IGSCE by yettak90: 10:35am On Feb 16, 2013
ogb5: quote
author=yettak90]To be fair, this isn't that difficult with sufficient
preparation.

I wrote IGCSE in 2005 and I got 2 A*'s (Math and Physics) and 3 A's (Ad.
Math, Chemistry, English). With only one month of intense preparation.
There were about 5 of us in my set that had all A's and above.

The curriculum isn't much different than WAEC/NECO: additional math was
even easier than WAEC's Further Math.

That said, I haven't used my IGCSE results for anything -they can only
get you into a sixth-form in the UK, or any of those "Study-Abroad"
schools in Nigeria. You need A'Levels (or a degree foundation program)
to get into University.

My WAEC result was less impressive, but it's the qualification I used to
get into school (as we thought it showed a wider range of subjects).

Congrats to the guy; his hard work has paid off. But we shouldn't
overhype the results as they aren't that unusual.

Wrong: You can use IGSCE to fufill O-level requirements in gaining admision to the university.
I have someone studying in a US university with just IGSCE and SAT.

Don't spread false Info

As far as I'm aware, American universities require SAT, TOEFL and a high school transcript.

A lot of them also accept the International Baccalaureate diploma, but I don't know of any that offer admission based on GCSE results.

What university is the person in?
