What happened to Chukwueze
This is not the Villareal guy that exposed Real Madrid’s defense last season
He needs to go watch a lot of Arjen Robben, Mo Salah & Bukayo Saka’s clips
Chukwueze is the only Nigerian player in an elite European football club
Or maybe we expect a little too much
Was expecting him to be on Pulisic’s level tbh!
My opinion though

E get why I say “reset”. Osimhen will not be under pressure in the French league.

Wrong
They’re signing him to try to win the UCL trophy
Something that Messi, Neymar & Mbappe couldn’t do
Wrong move to go to France
That country ain’t gonna produce a European champion in a decade
Best bet is Spain, England, Germany or Italy
French league isn’t competitive

RB is not our problem
It partly is
Ola Aina doesn’t have a solid replacement looking at the other guys on the bench for this position
It was obvious when Ola wasn’t playing this position
We just have to find someone giving close to what Aina gives so his absence won’t be felt
The person would come from the bench to give similar performance

Of course it is somebody's fault. The goal didn't fall out the sky lol. Jose was at fault for not sending help to Ola who was being tormented by Adringa then u have Troost who had enough time to head the ball the ball before Haller touched it.
I thought Moses came on at the 58th minute of the game

Name 3 players(defender, midfield or goalie) that deserve Super Eagles call up from NPFL
Local players regularly play in the harsh afternoon weather and evening in Africa
World Cup and AFCON qualifiers on the continent would be tough. Particularly away at Benin republic, South Africa etc
And at home with our no so fantastic pitches

Wouldn't blame Nwabali much. He tried in the tournament. Same way I wouldn't blame Aina who also had a good tournament in the defence. I can't blame the defence much. Point was the defence had a lot to deal with because Cote D'Ivoire dominated a lot and controlled the play while constantly setting free their attackers to overwhelm Nigeria's defence. It was only a matter of time when Cote D'Ivoire would break through, except if Nigeria's midfield had dominated the play to force back Cote D'Ivoire but Nigeria's midfield couldn't. Aina was mostly left one on one to deal with Cote D'Ivoire's constant attack without much help from the wing forward in front of him and he actually handled it well most of the times while reducing Andriga to only crossing few time. First Cote's goal was from a corner kick which the left defence couldn't handle. While second goal was from a late cross which Ekong couldn't handle.

As I said, the defence had it coming because it was constantly getting overwhelmed since Cote D'Ivoire dominated and controlled the play.

Anyways, the team tried. As I already said, I didn't expect anything after they lost to Guinea just before the beginning of the tournament.
Nwabali was fantastic
We’ve been struggling to find a rock solid close to world class goalie since Carl Ikeme left the Eagles
Probably 2018

CAF team of the tournament

Ola Aina, Troost Ekong and Ademola Lookman makes the team.
I am surprised Bassey didn’t make the list
He saved us from one hot shot in the finals.
No goal directly came from Basseys mistake
Bassey was very solid with zero errors

He was aiming to block the shot instead of going for the ball. That ball was there to be won. Once Haller got a Touch there was nothing anyone could do. If Ekong had at least gone for the header it might have thrown him off.
I think it’s hard for players especially defenders to read everything properly
Nanoseconds mistake there and a goal was conceded. Nobody’s fault really
Aina was caught off guard and the almost perfect cross was delivered
They really tried. To me they lost because tired legs up front weren’t high pressing enough
Sitting too deep eventually cost us

Sports / Re: AFCON 2023: Should Jose Peseiro Stay As Super Eagles Boss After Final Loss? by yinkeys(m): 9:12am On Feb 14
He should go
His Mourinho or Conte brand of football wouldn’t get us to the next level
Although there are so many positives and lessons the next coach can incorporate
Hopefully they get the World Cup ticket
A Nigerian coach with a better cv prior to Peseiro winning silver
We need a few more hungry NPFL boys in the team
Peseiro wasted money and time watching NPFL players but didn’t choose one
He also said it was NFF that suggested Nwabali
There are good NPFL right backs and left backs better than Osayi Samuel or S. Onyaemachi for example but they’ve not gotten the opportunity because they don’t know anyone in the glass house or they don’t play in Europe
No foreigner knows our problems better than a Nigerian expert
Thé job should be given to a Nigerian coach or expert that can solve problems
Can’t imagine we’ve been struggling to get a good goalie since 2018
We just found one in 2024 after so many personnel errors in the past
A local coach would know what’s going on with Nigerian players locally & internationally
Keshi’s model should be adopted
Grooming a local side as base and then when there’s serious business he can pick from them whenever you can’t find a European based player that’s good enough
Can’t believe Not a single NPFL player is good enough to make the list. And Nwabali whose a product of it made us proud
We have over a million footballers in Nigeria so not one could make the team. It’s ridiculous we don’t value home based because they’ve got no connections
Quality over Europe based
Why is Sodiq Ismail not in the super eagles ?

Superb save by Okoye😳

Wetin udinese do this guy wey mk am ripe like this?😳
Nwabali poor position in that corner kick
He didn’t time or track the ball well
He came out and they scored the corner
1st goal was partly his fault
The second goal, Aina was caught off balance trying to recover and didn’t expect that winger would switch to crossing mode quickly
It was really quick plus Ekong didn’t pressure Haller I believe
Sad day
Our boys were so close.
They will have to go again next year and learn from their mistakes in hostile North African zone
I was tensed watching the game yesterday not to talk of the players who were seeing a sea of orange throughout the stadium
Was very hard to pick out Nigerian fans
I no sure say dem reach 1000 sef
I doubt Okoye is good enough to make the eagles though
More experience and mistakes then he’d be ready

looool.... That tactics nearly won you the cup u know
If coach made more changes with fresh legs at 60 mins I believe we would’ve won
Simon coming in was a good one
I was expecting Moffi for Osimhen, iheanacho for Iwobi and in addition to that both wing backs to be changed.
Peseiro made late changes in this tournament sadly.
Cost us the final
I just rewatched it.
We would’ve locked the game totally if we had a bunch of fresh legs with desire in the second half
CIV made 2 changes before 70 minute mark
They wanted it more

those 10goals also counted as part of what gave him the APOTY, it wasnt useless…Sadio Mane Mohammed Salah sef don lose Afcon final before
I’m joking bro
Osimhen na our man
I was super impressed with his pressing against Cameroon where he gave more than 100% that’s why he wasn’t moving well in the Angola game. Probably because he didn’t recover well.
He also wasn’t high pressing probably due to fatigue in the second half of the Ivory Coast game.
Overall he had a decent tournament
I don’t doubt his abilities

Some players usually delete apps sef except on breaks or off season they reinstall it
I hope William Troost Ekong doesn’t retire just yet. We need him until summer 2026

I remember coming on here before the tournament and after the first game and said Iwobi wasn't good enough. I said if the Eagles are relying on him to be their creative hub then this team isn't serious.
I wonder if many of you guys here watch football or just blinded by sentiments.
Iwobi has been a senior professional for over a decade and no one knows what position or kind of player he is.
I proposed moving him to the left wing in the future to compete with Simon or whoever there cause Iwobi is nowhere near a creative player.
Funny enough I don't think he was bad in this tournament and I think the criticism is way overblown.
He's just Iwobi, average and just like the others in the team technically proficient when up against any decent side
Players have on and off seasons
He was good in 2018 and 2019
Also maybe he’s struggling in this pattern
Coachs instructions football usually follow

I hope Will Troost Ekong doesn’t retire until after 2026 World Cup
His leadership skills definitely needed still
Hopefully they give everything in hostile territory- Morocco next year
Nothing is impossible
Senegal didn’t give up after 2019 loss
I remember when they were mocking him when he was off form
Watching him play carefully in 2018 worId cup I just knew he had it in him same for most of our players
It all depends on if their on form or not
Hopefully all the other guys bounce back strong
We have a decent generation of players that can win Afcon as well as make Africa proud at the World Cup
