ok tanx i now get it better, i have tried another row of dc and it came out better cos i noticed the edge at the turning poiint of the last two i did were not forming a straight line.

Actually, you do not need to crochet into the 2ch turning chain at all.

The turning ch just provides a kind of edge wall for your work.

You should crochet under the "chain - like" tops that form on top of each row. And they should be the same number for each row (in this case 12).

So you'll see that your first "chain - like" top at the starting of the dc row is between the 2ch and your first dc.

LESSON 4: DOUBLE CROCHET.

US short form = dc.

Please note that the turning chain here is 2 ch.
The reason is that a dc is twice as "tall" as an sc or hdc.

Crocheters are really not common at all. I learnt basic crocheting from my mum when I was a kid. And then I had to teach myself a whole lot of other things.

You can double your yarn and also not make your stiches too tight. See if that helps with the tiny hook.

Bobijoe could make you a larger hook if you want (for a small fee - I think).

Try making your turning chain a little slack. See if there is any difference. And don't make your stiches too tight.

but i noticed that the size of my work was getting smaller even though i still have 12 hdc.

Good to know that you are okay.

To maintain the same size of your work, check to see that you are:
1. Making a turning ch at the beginning of every new row.
2. Maintaining the same tension.
