After 6 months of studying the stock market I called my brother one day in his parlour and told him to sell all the shares I had in his Bank. I cannot have shares in a bank whose major activity is round tripping of dollars. I cannot have shares in a bank that rebrands without due consultation with me. I cannot have shares in a bank that sends me an invitation to their AGM after it has been held. I cannot have shares in a bank whose major shareholder is a European bank that has secretly transferred millions of dollars to the MD as personal holdings. I cannot have shares in a bank that had virtually remained the same yet their share price has quadrupled. A bank that advertises on CNN with money it doesn't have.[/b]

I am an investment banker,i like this commentator's opinion.i have discussed this particular write-up with my colleagues several times,we have argued but i don't know where the reasoning copmes from.most of us are economics graduates and these things you highlighted are key fundamentals in determining the prospects?growth of a company.

But all the same, i am of the school that thinks if you have invested over time and you think you have lost big,there can not be a better time than now to invest,the problem with most of my fellow Nigerians is that they believe in the "get rich quick syndrome" hence most of us are not investors.rather we are speculators.there is no rule or law against been a speculator but you need to study/analyse the market properly before you decide what you really want.An Investor is the better of both,take for example,clients that transact with us on a daily basis,most of them bought these stocks in the 70's,they concentrated on their career and after retirement,they come around and both parties are glad.

take another instance,the young clients we have, they come in like everyday giving instructions sell today,buy tomorrow,i try as much as possible to advise them.i am not saying people should not take profit when it is sure in excess of what was anticipated but for crying out loud,what is the essence of giving bonuses and dividends,these measures are to assure you that your investments are working for you.

Intercontinental has not declared any bonus or dividend in three years and yet people went on to buy such a stock.

NB: if you have not invested before,this is the period to make your move.
      if you have invested and you have made losses,this is the time to shore up your investments with more funds  

Buy stocks that have fundamentals/principles,company history,do a background check on the management,directors etc.

if you know a manager that is been promoted unduly or that is cutting corners,the future of such a company is bleak cos that manager will one day be part of the management and will definitely support young ones that are cutting corners otherwise known as been "SHARP"

commentators and critics will be well received and appreciated cos i am not omniscience
