BOX OFFICE: LEGO BATMAN WINS SEQUEL SHOWDOWN

This weekend, Hollywood sequels showered down on the multiplexes and pumped in over $132M worth of new business into a marketplace that needed a boost. The Caped Crusader and pals led the way as the animated comedy The LEGO Batman Movie debuted at number one with an estimated $55.6M. Warner Bros. generated a solid $13,609 average from 4,088 locations – the most theaters ever for a February release.

Though big, it was still a 19% drop from the $69.1M launch of The LEGO Movie from three years ago this same weekend. That hit featured the Dark Knight in a supporting role. The new PG-rated toon earned good reviews from critics and a nice A- grade from audiences polled by CinemaScore. With next weekend being the long Presidents Day holiday frame, and most schools closing for winter beaks throughout the month, there is plenty more for LEGO Batman especially since there are no other major offerings for kids across the next four weekends.

LEGO Batman scored the seventh largest opening weekend ever in February just ahead of the $55.4M of The SpongeBob Movie from two years ago on this same place on the calendar before finishing with $163M. The new Bruce Wayne toon tale may certainly end up in the same vicinity, or maybe higher. Overseas, LEGO Batman grossed an estimated $37M from 60 markets this weekend with China, Australia, and Japan still to come.

just stick to animation already and ditch the "super hero movies".

Celebrities / Leave 2face Alone Abeg... by yondiamekenpach: 5:34pm On Feb 05, 2017
eys leave the guy alone abeg, i woke up today i started seeing various claps at tuface by angry ppl from anywhere, it made me wonder why then i checked Gq234 only to see that "oga tuface has cancelled the said 6th feb protest"...haha u could imagine my surprise then i saw a video of him explaining why. well to an extent i agree with him the protest is slowly being hijacked and the concern on security is a big issue. we never can tell what our ppl would do we are so volatile that at any moment one deranged hungry man will just start breaking bottle from there na so so vandalism even if it was clearly stated that it would be a peaceful march...when he announced it i at one point saw gov fayose commenting that he too will join u see problem no 1...other ppl with different agenda's also started voicing their support forgetting that they them selves are part of the problem. Now that he has cancelled it ppl are criticising the guy evn after explaining the reason...abegiii leave my guy alone.....if you want to carry on like seyi law said the road to stadium is all urs....

OGA WHY NOT ANSWER THE QUESTION.... WHAT THE GUY QUOTED IS IT IN THE QURAN OR NOT...? IF YES THEN YOU KEEP YOUR EXPLANATION TO YOUR SELF, BECAUSE THE ENGLISH IS SELF EXPLAINED.THE TRUTH IS THAT ISLAM ADVOCATE KILLINGS OF NON BELIEVERS "INFIDELS' AS THEY ARE BEEN CALLED

one thing ppl fail to understand is that the word "INFIDELS" as stated or used in the quran is/was used to describe the idol worshiping arabs at that time and not christians. infact the only religion that that was recognised and stated as close to islam was christianity...because evn the prophet muhammad (saw) sent a few of the muslims to go and seek help from the then king of abisinya (ethopia) who was with his ppl devoted christians and one of reason he helped them was cause they related the story of mary as told in the quran to him.......

i blame this new breed of misguided so called muslims for twisting and misinterpreting the word of GOD.

Nairaland / General / Northern Governors Blame Immigrants For Herdsmen Attacks by yondiamekenpach: 10:04am On Jan 25, 2017
The northern governor’s forum (NGF) has alleged that most of the herdsmen responsible for the attacks on communities in Nigeria are immigrants from Senegal and Mali. The chairman of the forum, Kashim Shettima of Borno, disclosed this to journalists at the end of the forum’s meeting in Kaduna, on Tuesday, January 24.

Governor Shettima said it has resolved to work with relevant stakeholders to secure Nigeria’s borders and register Fulani immigrants entering into the country to rear cattle, The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

“We also mapped out new strategies that would be used by the local Fulani herdsmen to rear their cattle without having to move across the country,” he said.

The Chairman emphasised the need for every Nigerian to see security as his or her business, pointing out that the nation would remain backward if there was no peace.

He acknowledged that the country was experiencing lots of challenges, particularly in the northern region, but expressed optimism that things would get better.

The joint meeting, which had northern traditional council of emirs and chiefs in attendance, discussed issues of insecurity, the management of common assets and measures to move the region to greater heights.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Senate has warned against the posting of videos and pictures that could trigger religious crisis and war in the country.

The warning followed a point of order raised by the chairman, committee on Federal Capital Territory, Senator Dino Melaye, at plenary on Tuesday, January 24, The Punch reports.

Melaye raised the order in reaction to photographs of killings from other countries, allegedly posted on the social media, under the guise that they took place in Southern Kaduna.

He said some persons were using the cyber space to post dangerous pictures which Muslim and Christian preachers have been reacting to.

New Justice League Dark Clip Is Simply Magical

From the look of it, WB intends to kick off 2017 in style as the first of several DC animated films to arrive this year charts bold new territory with Justice League Dark.

Aside from being granted an R-rating, what makes this one different from previous Justice League offerings is that it shifts the focus (for the most part) to characters who specialize in dealing with magic and/or occult elements. So rest assured that John Constantine, Deadman, Swamp Thing, Zatanna and Etrigan will all get ample screentime.

In the newly released clip, it becomes apparent that the usual suspects may not be equipped to handle the emerging threat. But before Batman sets out to gather the aforementioned specialists, you’ll witness a level of stubbornness only few can display. It’s well known that he isn’t too fond of magic and we expect this movie to take full advantage of his peeve, but hopefully not getting overly comedic with it.
Justice League Dark will be made available on Digital HD on January 24, with the Blu-Ray and DVD releases following on February 7. In the meantime, be sure to check out the official synopsis below in addition to a couple new images courtesy of Collider.

When innocent civilians begin committing unthinkable crimes across Metropolis, Gotham City and beyond, Batman must call upon mystical counterparts to eradicate this demonic threat to the planet. Enter Justice League Dark, reluctantly led by the Hellblazer himself, John Constantine. Like Batman, Constantine is a cunning, often cynical loner who is the best at his chosen profession – but quickly realizes the sinister forces plaguing the planet will require help from other supernatural alliances. Forming a new “league” with sorceress Zatanna, otherworldly Deadman, and Jason Blood and his powerful alter ego Etrigan the Demon, this team of Dark Arts specialists must unravel the mystery of Earth’s supernatural plague and contend with the rising, powerful villainous forces behind the siege – before it’s too late for all of mankind.

Celebrities / Epic Comeback!!! Veteran Actor Chiwetalu Agu Shades Gideon Okeke by yondiamekenpach: 7:30am On Jan 16, 2017
Popular TV soap, Tinsel star, Gideon Okeke took to social media some days ago decrying Veteran actor, Chiwetal Agu’s vulgarity in movies. This sparked a lot of reaction from his fans and even his fellow colleagues in the industry like Chioma Chukwuka who believe he was rude to the older actor. This reaction, made him delete the post. Chiwetalu Agu has however, spoken on the allegation in an interview.

He said: “Let him (Gideon) leave the censors board to do their job, or does he work with them? Anybody can say anything or come to whatever conclusion they please. The viewers would judge whether I use vulgar words in movies or not.

People who watch movies are the ultimate judges. I do not even know who Gideon Okeke is; I do not think I have ever heard his name. If people like AMAA are talking to me about this, I would know how to react appropriately. But this is an individual I do not even know. He has his own style, and I have mine which has won me awards all over the continent and even beyond.

This is the first time anyone will be accusing me of vulgarity. Others have been hailing me. What we do is satire; we are re-enacting what happens in the society.

People I have encountered and those who have called me have been full of praise for me. It will also interest you to know that I am the highest award-winning actor in Africa. I have 47 awards to my name; and the second person behind me has not even got up to 10 awards.

Two years ago, I took two cows to church to celebrate and thank God for giving me the highest number of awards in Africa. Secondly, I have done 727 productions. It is a rare record in Africa. I am also the current holder of the Best Veteran Actor award which was given to me in Ohio, United States of America.

People like Olu Jacobs and other time-tested Nollywood practitioners were nominated for that same award but I was chosen. My record is the best in all ramifications. I have spent about 35 years in the movie industry, and I am a big pillar of Nollywood.

Even former President Goodluck Jonathan confessed about three years ago that whenever he travels out of the country, foreign leaders ask after people like me, Jim Iyke, and Genevieve Nnaji. Because of that, he put N3bn into Nollywood’s account, and asked the former Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to manage the funds for Nollywood. This fund is still open to Nollywood practitioners.

It goes without saying that I am very big in Nollywood. I am a father, legend, and icon”

you all are taking this the wrong way, this is not a thing of debate it is clear. it dates back to the fore fathers. The mode of greeting in all the etnic regions are different... example how do the igbo chiefs or councle men great the king? simple with their fans or horse wipe crossing it against each other...the hausa's simply bows slightly raising their clenched fist a bit higher or mear handshake as in the way muslims generally do it ...the yorubas "dobale" ie bowing right to the ground......so u shld expect the visiting party "no matter who he/she is to replicate that same king/mode of greeting when he/she visit the head/chief/king of that particular place........its not act of slavery or arse licking its just plane RESPECT.....
