HealthMeet David Odunsi, Chairman, End Polio Committee Rotaract District 9110 Nigeria by YossyInfo(op): 9:26pm On Sep 04, 2019
As Nigeria begins countdown towards becoming Polio free, meet David Odunsi; Chairman End Polio Committee, Rotaract District 9110 Nigeria as he talks to us about the role of Rotaract in trying to eradicate Polio ; the highly infectious disease that causes paralysis in Children from Nigeria and the World at large.

Here is an interview with David Odunsi

Can we meet you?
I'm David Odunsi; Chairman End Polio Committee, Rotaract District 9110, Nigeria.
I'm passionate about young people and how much we can do to change the narratives of our immediate society and the world at large, like nuclear energy we possess enormous energy that can drive the growth and development of our world if properly harnessed. I enjoy teaching and mentoring alot, I love reading biographies and enjoying the cool of nature especially in an abundance of trees. My friends like to call me KingDavid, and lately some folks now call me Baba Polio.

Can you tell us about the Rotaract Club and what the club has to do with the fight against polio?
Rotaract is an international community of diverse young professionals between ages 18 and 31 across various fields to include Media and Advertisement, Law, Accounting, Banking, Healthcare and Medicine , Entertainment, Science and Technology amongst others, for half a century we have been transforming our communities and taking part in international service projects in a global effort to bring peace and understanding to the world. We focus massively on equipping our members with cutting edge professional and leadership skills that set them apart like a Golden fish in a body of water such that they have an eagle's eye at identifying problems in the society and proferring solutions to them. As an organization one of our cardinal projects is ensuring that Polio is eradica
ted from Nigeria and by extension the World at large, we take the fight against Polio personal both in words and in our actions, as a matter of fact eradicating Polio from the world is the biggest project of Rotary International.

What role does your committee play in the campaign to eradicate polio?
Yes, my Committee, the End Polio Committee is saddled with the responsibility of developing and executing programs that would help create awareness, raise funds and guarantee effective and efficient immunization programmes to support the fight against Polio in a bid to ensure that Nigeria and indeed the World becomes Polio free. Recently we launched our quarterly "Zero Polio" newsletter which captures activities of various Rotaract clubs within our district geared towards Polio eradication, the newsletter which has received wide coverage is to essentially ensure that members of the Public are educated about the infant crippling monster called Polio virus. Soonest we would be unveiling our "Drop a Penny, Save a Child" donation boxes that would be placed at strategic locations to encourage people to donate something towards the fight against Polio, in the month of October we would be having a Seminar/press conference on Polio where we would be featuring renown key note speakers, likewise we would be having an awareness trek amongst other programs lined up to celebrate the world Polio Day that comes up October 24 every year. All the afore-mentioned are but a few things we do in a bid to ensure we cross the finish line in our race towards Polio eradication.

Are there any facts society might not be aware of that your team wants to create enlightenment about?
Yes, loads of them actually but I would mention a few, first and foremost is that we are close to eradicating Polio in the world, infact we are 99% close to eradicating Polio from the world, secondly is the fact that if we must eradicate Polio from the world every single child must be vaccinated hence the need for continued advocacy, when a single child goes unvaccinated it slims down the chance of the world at becoming Polio free, as such we all owe one another that duty of ensuring that every child below 5 years of age is vaccinated against Polio.

How far do you think your committee can get in creating awareness on crucial issues regarding polio?
As a committee we are passionate and driven to ensure that we aggressively create massive awareness as far as Polio is concerned, we would be featuring on a number of Radio and TV stations ,as well as Newspapers to put out the message of Polio eradication, however it's a fight that has to involve everyone as such we call on Corporate bodies and individuals to come on board with us to create a Polio free world for the next generation of young people. As a Committee we are always willing to receive any corporate body or individual that wants to affiliate with us in the fight against Polio.

How far have Nigeria and the world respectively gotten in the fight against polio?
For us here in Nigeria, we have truly come a long way as far as Polio eradication is concerned, currently we have been able to achieve the feat of staying without any case of Wild Polio virus for 3 years which is a requirement to receive the World Health Organization Polio free certification, this is a milestone for us in Nigeria, however it's not time for us to celebrate yet as evaluation processes are still ongoing as such we should not become complacent. I can't but give kudos to our Rotary and Rotaract clubs in Nigeria and the World that have been indefatigable in supporting the fight against Polio with their money and volunteer time. In the world at large significant progress has also been made, apart from Nigeria, Polio is endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan, so you would see that we have actually come a long way.

How can members of the society participate in the fight against polio?
We are always excited to have as many members of the public and corporate organizations as possible show interest in supporting the fight against Polio, the last agenda on the SDGs says "partnership" because no single person or entity can do it alone, members of the public and Corporate bodies can participate through creating awareness, telling people within their circle of influence about the need to have every child below 5 years receive vaccine against Polio, they can also support by approaching us for opportunities for partnership/sponsorship of some of our Polio eradication initiatives by mailing us on endpoliorotaractd9110@gmail.com as well as making direct donations to 2003585094 Firstbank, Rotaract District 9110

FamilyThe Strange Woman In My Matrimonial Bed - (part 2) by YossyInfo(op): 5:06pm On May 24, 2019
Part 2 (The secret is out)

"Sitting in my car, even with the air conditioner set to the lowest temperature, I was sweating profusely."
"I cannot forget in a hurry how I allowed my bestie, Tega, to brainwash me with her sweet talks. She often told me how she makes a lot of money (off her husband) from the house keep allowance, house help allowance, school fees, NEPA bills, estate security/maintenance bills, even at every opportunity she gets. (She calls it.. extra income for the "Super-Smart Big Gurls"wink
Ever since Junior entered primary school, I made up my mind to become a super-smart big gurl....Since, I the one in charge of liaising with the school and sorting out everything about junior's academics. It was very easy for me to cut corners. My husband usually sends the money to my account, He sends whatever amount I ask him to send for school fees. (Since he works outside the city and only comes home fortnightly)

While our son was in Primary 1 & 2, on many occasions, I collected up to 4 times the total amount requested by the school from my husband.
Now that our son is in primary 3...My husband called me to send details of the school bills to him. Even Yesterday morning, he asked me to confirm the details again to him via SMS or chat. He promised to send the money, latest today by 12 noon.
Though the total bill was just about one hundred thousand naira, I sent inflated figures to my husband, requesting for a sum of about half a million naira (about 5 times the real value.)

My husbands totally trusts me and doesn't have any reasons to doubt me until now.
Eventually, I managed to put the car back on the road. (Though I wasn't if I was the one driving the car...my heart was racing)
On getting home, fidgeting, I went to my husband's room...there, lying on his table, I found a note written in my husband's handwriting:

TO THE STRANGE WOMAN IN MY BEDROOM:
"Yesterday, I came home much earlier than you expected. I wanted to surprise you with a piece of property (a multilevel building) that I just acquired for you in central district of Abuja... Infact, I purchased the property IN YOUR NAME.

FamilyThe Strange Woman In My Matrimonial Bed - (part 1) by YossyInfo(op): 4:57pm On May 24, 2019
My husband walked into the house looking dull....No hug, no kiss, no hello!. "He must have had a very rough day" I thought to myself", Afterall, Abuja to Ijebu-Ode is a very long journey". He went straight to His room, without uttering a word. (Dennis and I had separate rooms.) Though, we were free to sleep together in any of our rooms, I allowed him to rest and sleep in my personal room instead.

By sunrise, I had prepared his favourite meal and set the table. Dennis came out of his room, fully dressed ready to hit the road. "Hi Honey, hope you had a restful night?" I tried to engage him...He just nodded grudgingly, but did not say a word.

"Oh! How I miss his soft touch and his romantic style of greeting...the way he calls my name, kiss my face, and sometimes he gently lifts me off the ground"

Whistling, he simply carried his briefcase, picked his car keys and zoomed off without even tasting my food or saying goodbye. I was perturbed and dumbfounded. "What is wrong with this man?.... In our 8 years of marriage, I have never seen him like this. This is so strange!"

I managed to put myself together, as my son was already late for school. I served junior his breakfast and we set out for school.

On getting to school, I realised that I had forgotten the school's bank teller at home. It was a new term and we needed to pay school fees. After sending the boy to his class, I went straight to the Admin block to pick up another teller, so as to pay my ward's tuition.

"Good morning, madam Bridget, how may I help you ?"
"Good morning Mr Nelson.. Pls I need another bank teller so I can pay my son's tuition. I left the previous teller at home."

"But madam, didn't your husband tell you?"

"My who?...My husband??... tell me what??"

"Madam, your husband was here yesterday around noon, he requested for a bank teller and made instant payment by transfer to our bank. He settled all your child's bills.

"Whatt!!!....You mean my husband was here yesterday?"

"Yes madam, he even spoke to the HM, you can confirm from her."

"Mister Nelson, Are you okay at all? Do you know what you are saying?

"Yes Madam...Wait, let me quickly get you the details"

"Mister Nelson, you must be out of your mind! Why did you give him the teller, without directing him to me? Don't you know that I am the one responsible for making payments? Why didn't you call me to notify me first? You must be very stupid to commit such a blunder"

Gosh! I was very furious, I wanted to literarily tear him apart. I knew that His ignorance & negligence was going to cost me. Only that I didn't know that it would cost me everything.

By this time, I had created a big scene in the school. Teachers/staff ran towards us from every direction. The shouts of "madam sorry", "take it easy ma" filled the air.

I wanted to quickly do a damage control...I pulled away from the crowd, opened my bag, pulled out my phone to call my husband but his iPhone was switched off.

Christianity EtcConditions Of Fasting In Ramadan And Factors That Nullify The Fast by YossyInfo(op): 11:56am On May 22, 2019
Fasting in the month of Ramadan, the month of salvation and victory, isn’t about abstaining from food and water alone, it also has some conditions.

The conditions of fasting in the month of Ramadan are divided into three categories.

FIRST: The conditions of obligation

1. Adulthood:
Fasting in the month of Ramadan is not obligatory upon a child, even if he is an adolescent, as the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) said, “Three people are absolved of the religious assignments: the one who is asleep until he wakes; the child until he reaches puberty; the insane until he makes a recovery.” [Ahmed and Abu Daawood]
However, parents should train their child to observe fasting if he can bear it, this will help habituate him/her to the obligation of fasting.

2. Ability:
Fasting is not obligatory upon whoever cannot fast due to illness or old age as Allah, the Exalted says, {what means}: {And upon those who are able to fast but with difficulty have (either to fast or) to feed a Miskin (poor person) for every day.}(Quran 2:184). The person who suffers from an incurable illness and old people who are unable to fast are exempted from fasting, but they must feed a poor person as a ransom for each missed days of the fast, such person are not obliged to make up for the missed fast days.

3. Residence:
Fasting is not obliged upon the traveler, who is allowed to break his fast and make up for it. Allah the Almighty says, {what means}: {So whoever among you is ill or on a journey, then an equal number of days are to be made up.} (Quran 2;184)

SECOND: The conditions of validity

1. Intention:
The Prophet (S.A.W) said, “Verily deeds are judged and considered based on intentions….” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
The intention to fast must be made at night, as the Prophet (S.A.W) said, “There is no valid fast for the person who did not intend to fast from the night before.” [Abu Dawood and An-Nasaa’i]

2. Reaching the age of discernment:
Fasting is invalid for the child before the age of discernment because he does not understand the rationale and meanings of the acts of worship.

3. Times when fasting is invalid:
Fasting during the prohibited days like the two Eid days, Eid El Fitr and Eid El Kabir is invalid.

THIRD: Conditions of obligations and validity.
These are the conditions without which the fast would be neither obligatory nor valid.

1. Islam:
The acts of the disbeliever and the apostate are void and rejected as Allah the exalted says, {what means}: “If you should associate anything with Allah, your work would surely become worthless and you would surely be among the losers.”

2. Sanity:
The insane person is not competent to undertake religious obligations as proved by the aforementioned Hadith: “Three people are absolved of the religious assignment ……. the insane until he makes recovery.” [Ahmed and Abu Daawood]

3. Purity from menstruation and postpartum bleeding:
The menstruating women and the woman who has postpartum bleeding are not allowed to observe the fast. Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, said, “Menstruation used to come upon us in the lifetime of the Prophet (S.A.W), and we were ordered to make up for the missed fast but we were never ordered to make up for the missed prayers.”

Also to the fasting men and women, the following are factors that nullify the fast:

1. Intentional eating and drinking:
This only applies to those who does so consciously, because if a person eats or drinks forgetfully or by mistake or is forced to do so, his fating remains intact.

2. Intentional vomiting:
Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Prophet (S.A.W) said, “Whoever is overcome by vomiting is not to make up the day. Whoever vomits intentionally must make up the day.” [Ahmed, Abu Dawood, At Tirmithi and others]

3. Sexual Intercourse:
Allah the Almighty says, {what means}: “It has been made permissible for you the night preceding fasting to go to your wives (for sexual intercourse). They are clothing for you and you are clothing for them.” (Quran 2:187)
These verse proves that having sexual intercourse with one’s wife during the daytime of Ramadan is prohibited. The Prophet, (S.A.W) also commanded the man who had sexual intercourse with his wife during the daytime of Ramadan to offer expiation {i.e. an act of atonement for a sin or wrongdoing}.

4. Masturbation:
This means ejaculation through intentional stimulation of the genital organs by hand or in any way such as pre-intimacy with one’s wife.

5. Menstruation and postpartum bleeding:
Intending to break the fast while fasting:
Merely making a decisive intention – even if it lacks implementation nullifies the fast, as the prophet (S.A.W) said, “Actions are judged and considered according to intentions…” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

I bear witness that there is no God but Allah, He is alone without any partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad (SAW) is His servant and His messenger.

It is no longer news that Ramadan is here: a month of mercy from Allah to humankind and mercy from humankind to humankind and other creatures of Allah. A month in which someone we believe would never see the mercy of Allah sees it and a month in which you receive gifts from someone never thought could give you anything. A month in which Brother Kamoru remembers he is a Muslim and Sister Shukura remembers she is a Muslimah. A month an average human being remembers he has a Creator and has some obligations placed on him. A month of COMPASSION, LOVE, MERCY, PEACE AND UNITY.

In this month, was the Qur’an revealed and so mother Divine Books revealed to previous Prophets (AS) as confirmed by Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in a hadith related by Imam Ahmad. In this month placed the Night of Majesty. IN this month, Shaytan and his associates are chained, then gates of Hellfire are closed and those Jannat are opened. It is evident enough and safe to conclude that Allah praises Ramadan among others. The reason for this is best known to The Creator Himself (SWT).

I feel it is imperative to note that, there is a difference between Ramadan and Fasting (Sawm). The former is the ninth month of the Islamic Calendar while the latter is one of the pillars on which Islam is built.

Though, Fasting is what often comes to mind any time Ramadan is mentioned. This is so because Allah Himself says “Whoever witnesses Ramadan should fast it”. Thus, Ramadan is a month in which Fasting (Sawm) is observed. However, the purpose of this distinction is not to derail from the fundamental belief of Islam. Rather, it is to make us view Ramadan from a different but fundamentally related angle to know that Ramadan encompasses more than Fasting. It is an intensive program/class for Muslims and a receptacle of all the pillars of Islam.

It is a fact of common knowledge that Islam is built on Five Pillars: Faith, Prayer, Fasting, Charity and Pilgrimage to Mecca for those who are capable(financially and health wisely). Every Muslim is expected to consciously uphold all these pillars.

However, before Ramadan, we usually have dwindling Iman(faith), we hardly observe regularly on time or even abandon it totally and take Friday Prayer more or less the only obligatory one, we seldom fast, our attitude towards Charity is lackadaisical and we view going for Hajj differently. However, the story changes immediately Ramadan comes in. Thus, majority of Muslims become conscious of these pillars.

Faith (Iman) is the basic principle and foundation on which other pillars are built. Every Muslim must believe that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad (SAW) is but His Servant and Messenger. Without this, you and I do not have any reason to uphold/observe the other pillars, for upholding them without the belief in Allah and His Messenger will only amount to an exercise in futility. However, Fasting in Ramadan shows one still has at least an iota of belief in Allah and His Messenger. During this period, people’s faith is usually on the increase. They uphold that which Allah has permitted and abstain from that which He has forbidden. Consequently, they remember that there exist these verses: “follow Allah and follow the Messenger.” And “whatever the Messenger has given you- take it; and whatever he has forbidden for you- refrain from…”

Moreover, Allah (SWT) being our creator made us realize that He has created us for a purpose- to worship him. Consequently, He commanded us to worship Him with Solat, being another pillar without which there is no Islam. The only time you find mosques filled up for Subhi, Zhur, A’sri, Magrib and especially I’shai is during the month of Ramadan. This is so because of the cliché, “Allah does not need the the fast of a fasting person who does not pray.” Or “a fasting person who does not pray is only causing himself hunger.” In Ramadan, people tend to be more conscious of Solat. Those who had abandoned it before Ramadan start observing it, those who used to observe it but not regularly before Ramadan start observing it regularly, and those who use to observed it regularly before Ramadan observe it increasingly (with Tahjjud).

In addition, Allah (SWT) prescribed Fasting for us just as He prescribed for those before us, so that we may become righteous. He says whoever witnesses the Ramadan should fast. However, He gave exceptions, but in spite of this, Allah still reiterated the fact that, "To fast is better for you, if only you knew.” this is to show how important Fasting in the month of Ramadan is. During this period, we are to stay away from eating and drinking for a particular period of the day. It should be noted however that Fasting is not limited to abstaining from eating and drinking, it extends to abstinence from sexual relations (lawful/unlawful) and generally sinful speech like slander, backbiting, etc. and sinful acts.

Furthermore, another pillar of Islam which people pay rapt attention to during Ramadan is Charity (zakat/sodaqah). Allah commanded us to give charity in other to purify our wealth and earn rewards in manifolds in this life and hereafter. Naturally, when we are fasting, we usually look gentle and meek, and in turn, we treat people around us with gentleness. In the work environment, many workers attest to the fact that the period in which they enjoy their Muslim boss is during Ramadan. No matter how rigid we might be before Ramadan, Fasting brings out the mercy, compassion, and generosity in us, thereby showing kindness to everyone around us. Moreover, Ramadan teaches us how to better practice self-discipline, self-control, sacrifice, patience, perseverance, and empathy for those who are less privileged; thus, encouraging actions of generosity and compulsory charity. Charity as a pillar of Islam is best practiced/observed in this period.

Lastly, Pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj) is a mandatory religious duty ordained by Allah for us, which must be carried out at least once in our lifetime by those of us who are physically and financially capable of undertaking the journey, and can support our family in our absence. Apart from being an obligatory religious duty on us, Hajj has a spiritual merit that provides us with an opportunity of self-renewal, for whoever performs it accordingly with a sincere intent is viewed as one who never committed any sin before in his life. Normally, Hajj is done on the eighth to twelfth day of the last month of the Islamic calendar, Dhul HIjjah. During Ramadan however, Umrah can be done in place of Hajj. This is in assonance with the statements of the Prophet (SAW) as related in various narrations: "Perform Umrah in Ramadan, as it is equal to Hajj.” Another narration states that “When Ramadan comes, do Umrah as (the reward for) it then equivalent to Hajj.” The benefits Ramadan bestowed this one upon us.

Ramadan offers us the opportunity to practise and consciously uphold all the pillars of Islam. As I stated earlier, Ramadan is not limited to fasting. During this period, we are to strictly adhere to that which Allah has commanded us to do; praying on time, giving alms to the poor, loving and doing good to people around us, saying the truth, enjoining righteousness and forbidden evil, among others. Equally, we must absolutely abstain from all that Allah has forbidden for us; associating partners with Allah, drawing up bad assumptions, slander, backbiting, adultery/fornication, among others. Abu Hurairah reported the Prophet ( SAW) to have said; Gabriel came to me and said, “Whoever reaches the month of Ramadan and he is not forgiven; then, he will enter Hellfire and Allah will cast him far away, so say Aamin.” I said Aamin.” May you and I be forgiven by Allah in this Ramadan, Aamin.

In conclusion, we must all know that Ramadan is a practical example of how we ought to live our life before and after it. The good deeds you and I earned in Ramadan may not be sufficient to outweigh our bad deeds, which we earned in other months. On this note, I urge you to enter this glorious month with the intention to maintain the status quo after it. RAMADAN KAREEM!

EducationEVERY FACE TELLS A STORY - by Bello Oluwadamilola by YossyInfo(op):
Every face tells a story. Some tell stories of happiness, some of sadness. In a typical Yoruba setting, the expression on an elder’s face could be a warning, correction, or message that needed to be passed across.

In the military, faces are used as mechanisms in passing information, warnings or insightful messages. However, the importance of the varieties of meanings accorded to various kinds of facial expressions is that they tell different stories at different times for various reasons.

People go through a lot in their daily engagements, and for some people it is displayed in facial expressions while some people tend to express control over their emotions by using mechanism of smiles to divert people's attention from the issues they face.

These days, people tend to get things mixed up. Sometimes the story we seem to derive from looking at people's faces might not be accurate. While some laugh when good things happen to them, others possess the habit of shedding tears when they are grieved. And while some cry in pains, others laugh hysterically. These are contrasts of life.

EducationYouth 2030: Reflections On The 2019 United Nations Ecosoc Youth Forum by YossyInfo(op): 11:23am On Apr 13, 2019
The world keeps changing. Global problems seem to be increasing but so is the endless possibilities for solving these problems. As it stands, the hopes of mankind lie in the phenomenal potentials of we young people - many of whom have continuously gone beyond the call of duty to make remarkable differences to communities and regions across the world. The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum, took place between 8-9 April 2019 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The Forum is the largest and most institutionalized platform for the participation of young people in the works of the United Nations. It provides a platform for young leaders from around the world to engage in a dialogue among themselves and with United Nations Member States and to share ideas for advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, and the Paris Climate Agreement.

The Forum serves as a unique space for young people to share their vision and elaborate their substantive contributions to United Nations upcoming meetings, including the 2019 ECOSOC Substantive Session, the 2019 high-level political forum on sustainable development (HLPF) and the high-level events taking place on the margins of the opening of the General Assembly, as well as the Climate Summit, the High-level Meeting on Financing for Development and the SDG Summit.

I arrived at JFK International Airport in the early hours of Saturday, 6th of April, 2019. I had consciously worked to surmount the effect of change in timezone/jet lag on board my 15-hour flight from Nairobi to New York - consequently; it became easy for me to settle down and attend the capacity building program that was held for ECOSOC Youth Forum delegates in the UNFPA building on Sunday, 7th of April,2019. This was an engagement organized to hone the leadership and advocacy skills of participants before the commencement of the Forum itself.

EducationOverpopulation In Nigeria: A Ticking Time Bomb - By Chukwuma Ikeanyichukwu by YossyInfo(op): 10:05pm On Apr 04, 2019
While many regions of the world are looking at controlling their population, Africa, particularly Nigeria’s population grows exponentially on a yearly basis. This rapid population growth poses a lot of challenges for any nation, more so, for a developing nation. Depletion of natural resources are at an all-time high, as a larger population consumes these resources at a greater rate than they are produced. Resources such as oil take years to produce, but billions of barrels are used everyday. Deforestation has also become more regular as trees cannot be replaced as fast as they are being used.

According to Lynden S. Williams of Ohio University, overpopulation can be defined as an imbalance between the available resources under existing social and technological constraints, and the resources needed to provide some minimal or optimal life style to the population in question. Overpopulation also refers to a condition where a population exceeds its sustainability due to an exhaustion or decline of resources within a particular environment. It can also be further defined simply as a condition where an area holds more people than in which the area can function properly. Overpopulation has been precipitated by technological advancements which have brought about improvement in public health and medical facilities evidenced by increased fertility rate and a general reduction in mortality worldwide.

Reports from the International Programs Center, US Bureau of Census estimated the total population of the world to be at 6.4 billion as at September 2005. According to the current estimates, the world population reached 7 billion in 2012 and the new projections indicate that that in 2025, the 8 billion mark will be reached. It has also been estimated that between 2000 and 2030, nearly 100% of this growth will occur in the less developed countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia.

EducationFrom A Rejected Law Student To A Celebrated History Student: My Lasu Story by YossyInfo(op): 9:46am On Mar 21, 2019
Just as an old man in his last days on earth has a heavy heart laden with thoughts of his struggles and breakthroughs in life, I sat there under the tree that warm evening starring at the faculty building with mixed feelings of achievements and regrets. In the mood of an athlete who sustained heavy injuries in a marathon race he ultimately crossed the finish line - I was lost in a world of my own thoughts of what could, and; could not have been.

I secured admission to study law at the Lagos State University in 2014. I had dreamt of living the life of a law student at LASU - a dream I had nurtured since my formative years in high school. I recall how the rains of tears flooded my heart at the MBA complex in January, 2015 after I was informed of my rejection as an admitted law candidate. I cried, cried and cried; my early dreams faded off like smoke but if only men know what the future would look like?

Lagos State University, Ojo has a population of more than 20,000 student of which over 65% are muslims. Every Ramadan, Muslim students are faced with the challenges of what to eat for Sahur and how to break their fast. LASU being a non-residential area as incapacitated us not to be able to cater for the Sahur of students as we have focused more on Iftar.

Last year, with your generous financial contributions, we were able to sponsor almost 10,000 iftars! This year, we are anticipating that we will serve even more - we are estimating about 30,000 meals. Each meal is valued at #250 (includes overhead), we will need to raise #7,500,000 to cover the costs of iftar for the month of Ramadan as we intend to give iftarb to 1000 students per day. Will you consider making a material or financial gift to help us meet our goal?

Every donation counts - so we have made it possible to sponsor a single meal for #250, two meal for #500 , ten meal cost just #2,500 and with #5,000, 20 student can comfortably eat Iftar.
