If you were an alumni or presently an undergraduate in any University in Nigeria, chances are that you would have come across these types of lecturers. In carrying out their duties, these lecturers relate with students in different, and each of them have different approaches to teaching. Nigerian lecturers can be classified under the following: 1. The Parent-like These lecturers advice students in taking the right steps and making the right decision in life. Their class is usually half lecture half advice. They take students as their own children and always remind them of how their parents are striving so to send them to school and why they should not disappoint them. 2. The respected ones Every university has a lecturer who commands so much respect from students and lecturers alike. No one messes with this type of lecturers, not because they are elderly, but probably because of the status they have attained in academia. Whenever these lecturers are lecturing, the class is always well organized and quiet. 3. The sadist The lecturers you find in this category are always unfriendly, unimpressed and unapproachable. Their class is always boring and no matter how hard you try, you can't impress them . They are the ones that believe A is for God, B for lecturers while the students grades start from C. Students' failure seems to be their success. 4. The funny ones You will never be wrong if you call these types of lectures comedians. Lecturers in this category find the most hilarious analogies to explain concepts. Students easily connect with them because of their friendliness and sense of humour. There is never a dull moment in funny lecturers' class. Their style and approach to teaching break down seemingly difficult concepts, thus, creating a happy atmosphere that helps students to learn better.

There is no doubt, the ongoing strike, championed by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, is a sad tale as this could cause major disruptions in the school calendar. But YossyInfo is here to give you things students can do during the ASUU strike that will help you benefit from your stay away from school. Start a business As an undergraduate, this is the best time to start a small business. Launch out that business idea you have been nursing. You are not too young to be an entrepreneur, use this period at home to start a small business. The good thing is that you do not necessarily need a large capital to get started. You can also use social media as a tool to leverage your business. Learn a new skill There is no better time to learn a skill than now. It could be photography, jewelry making, baking, producing music, writing etc Be determined to learn and be good at it, it will give you an edge and provide opportunities for a side hustle, it will help build your self confidence and give you value for time invested. After learning, don't hesitate to put the skill into practise even when school resume again. This will enhance the skill and make you perfect in it. Get a job While at home, you can as well make money. Get a job as an intern or assistant in an office or company preferably close to you, so you won't spent too much on transport fares. You can get a job as an apprentice at a creative studio or salon, you may also decide to go for something freelance like writing or blogging. The money made may not be much but it may be enough to take care of some needs. Working is fun and educational. Volunteer There is a measure and sense of accomplishment that come with service to humanity. It exposes one to great opportunities like traning, travel etc Volunteering is a great way to give back to the society. You can volunteer for, NGOs to better the society or a number of empowerment programs tailored for young people where certain skills you possess may be needed.

School Fights & Statistics The Center for Disease Control (CDC) defines school violence as youth violence that occurs on school property, on the way to or from school or school-sponsored events, or during a school sponsored event. Here are the real facts about fighting in schools; Fighting In Schools 1 in 5 teenagers reported being bullied at school 11% of students report have been in a physical fight 749,200 nonfatal violent victimizations at school among students 12 to 18 years of age in 2012 “Of students who reported criminal victimization at school, 62% were targets of traditional bullying and 12% were targets of online bullying.” (youth.gov, 2012) Feeling Unsafe At School 7% of students skipped school on 1+ days within the past 30-days because they felt unsafe at school or on their way to or from school 8% of students are threatened with weapons at school 5% of students reported carrying a weapon on school property 1+ days within the past 30-days “50% of children who have been bullied online do not report the behavior to their parents, leaving their parents with no idea regarding this behavior.” Youth Homicides Less than 1% of youth homicides occur at school Homicide is the 2nd most reported cause of death for youth, after accidents & followed by suicide 50% of youth homicide perpetrators gave some type of warning signal prior to the homicide Violent deaths among adolescents are more likely to occur at the beginning of the semester “Emotional self-awareness and control, positive social skills, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and teamwork skills.. can help prevent school violence.” These statistics show that bullying and harassment can lead students to stop attending school, cause themselves self-harm, and feel the need to carry weapons. Bullying, harassment, and fights that come to head at school are often rooted in problems at home. Parent-child engagement, the presence of positive mentors, outreach programs, and activities like team sports and/or martial arts can help to curb school violence. Teach Students How to Resolve Conflict A preventative way to address physical fights and violence is to explicitly teach and model to students how to respond to conflict. Teach students age-appropriate, nonviolent solutions to responding to problems. Provide students with scenarios to act out, and give them the opportunity to model how to positively respond to conflict situations. Free Spirit Publishing offers tons of great resources for teaching students to respond effectively to conflicts Source: 1)https://www.tagmuaythai.com/post/school-violence 2)https://freespiritpublishingblog.com/2015/04/08/counselors-corner-how-to-handle-physical-fights-at-school/

How should a university treat an application from a mass murderer? The University of Oslo was faced by this question, when a mass killer, Anders Behring applied from prison to take its political science degree. It was recalled that, In July 2011, Breivik had killed 77 people in a bomb and gun terror attack in Oslo and on the island of Utoya. The decision on whether to teach him was made particularly difficult for the university, because some of the people killed by Breivik had been related with students at the university. Higher education has a key role to play in countering the spread of populism , nationalism and tackling global challenges such as poverty and climate change , by reasserting universal values of human dignity and the value of science and research , the United Nations Educational , Scientific and Cultural Organization ’ s education chief , Stefania Giannini, said . Competition between universities and between countries will be increasingly about human capital, she warned . Countries that are able to attract talented and very qualified people and give them opportunities to improve their competences will be the most competitive . But the same countries will also build more inclusive societies “because a strong higher education system , at the national level , can help to lessen social tensions , help people to be tolerant and to know different cultures , religions and languages better” . The UNESCO, as a leading international organisation dedicated to education , science and culture , may be battling in a difficult context of rising opposition to multilateralism and globalisation , but its mission , to build peace ‘ in the minds of men ’ , still has much to offer the world , she told journalists in London , especially in the current context . She said that globalisation , although it had enabled people to live, learn and work in different countries , had become a negative word for many common people facing challenges as a result of it . “ Maybe now it is time to get back to a universal perspective based on human dignity , respect , tolerance , exchange of knowledge of cultures and religions. This is a dimension where education and specifically higher education can play a crucial role . ” She was talking on the 70 th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights , in advance of a wide- ranging speech in which she argued that higher education is a “ fundamental human right ” and , more than ever , education is the “main infrastructure to build sustainable development and sustainable societies ” and should contribute to “society as a whole” . “ Higher education has a frontline role to play in understanding and finding solutions to challenges affecting all countries , including in their ethical dimensions . “ Higher education institutions are vital for advancing inclusive national and regional development , for shaping more resilient and inclusive societies . They are intricately linked to shaping the economic, social and environmental fabric of our world . ” Giannini, who was Italy ’ s second female rector – leading the University for Foreigners of Perugia, oriented towards study , by foreigners , of the Italian language and culture – and was Italy’ s education minister between 2014 and 2016 , was speaking in London at an event marking the 21 st anniversary of the UK ’ s Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education . – Source : universityworldnews . com https://yossyinfo..com/2019/01/higher-education-should-reassert.html

Youths!!! This is for you Cc lalasticlala |
![]() YOU WON'T LAST MUCH LONGER I hope one-day this youths would prove me wrong, and focus their attention on what really matters, I hope one-day they realise their folly so quickly, before this pregnant clouds fall thorns on their head, a generation so daunting, blessed like us, our times, but it so unfortunate where we swing our pendulum to. I hope before its too late, they pick up, where their grandfathers have stopped, thereby understanding, life is just a passage, for what would they be remembered for, long after their miserable life has ended. A generation where, monetary wealth is the only sign of success, where desperately they search for it, like diamonds on the Liberian field. I hope this Nigeria young bloods, understands that, Twitter trends, and Facebook post, importantly instagram applications are inventions of the youths of otherlands, sold to you, at the expense of your life, they made you to forget your life that, you even chose to live in a fake world instead. So pathetic isn't it, much more, its a tragedy on you. You are sent to school, from the wealth gathered from old mothers, weak fathers, selling on the markets, and hawking on the streets, and at night, they slip into next door, to borrow just to eat, but they have great hope, because they would proudly tell their neighbours, my son is in school, my daughter is in her final year, but you, all that matters to you is freedom from your block brain. You don't even know you are nothing but a common dust. This thing call social media has eaten deep into your life that, you can't survive a day, without wasting part of your precious life. So pathetic isn't it, much more, its a tragedy. You will realize the essence of a good life when your parents are gone, gone because, you dashed their hopes, because you forget child of whom you are, and because you prove to them, how wrong they were to have believed you, but note this, you killed them. you will understand the true meaning of humanity when you grow older, just that, by then, times will be irrevocable, you will see your mates that were geeks, unsocial, in fact not attractive back then, and you won't be Able to look up to them, because you went to the same school, graduated with them, had the same opportunity, you even have greater grades than them, and you to the ladies looking for where to spread your legs, for the comfort of little vibes, you will understand the true meaning of life, when forever you are damn. You think no one knows, because "Down their doesnt read meters" no one knows. So pathetic isn't it, much more a tragedy You try to practice what you see on the screen of other lands, in your country, you get carried away, by love stories that never exist, you live in a poor home, and dream only of one-day when the rich girl, or the rich guy would walk up to you, thereby changing your story forever, its so unfortunate that you have even forgotten the potentials God has placed in you, your present situation should have been a motivation to you, but each time you sit to think, and ponder about your live, one message, from "Whatsapp" pops up, and again your life is drown......I hope one-day you realise you won't be this fresh forever. Your educational system isn't working, you will say "am I the government" your social life isn't working because of lack of infrastructure, yet you will say, "am I the government" the truth is, the government is in you, when you realise the worth of yourself, and stand up for what is truly right. I hope the youths of this age would realise how much of the future rest on their shoulder, its so unfortunate that, where we hope to have the last of our values, is even where the values are sold for free rubies, if the men No longer have faces to cover, why then should the women even take of their veil, its even more worse, as younger girls between ages I can't mention, stand at junctions of every street, looking for whom to devour, and whom to spread their legs once again to, just to buttress their fake life on social media, for more expensive negro, out their, ready to take them high up the hills where, morality never lives, and forever into the dungeon of no return, then after some tragic narratives, they returned to God, but woe to those who know what they are engaging themselves into, hoping to be forgiven at the dawn of time, I tell you, HELL and DARKNESS might be yours. Time is running out.......... Solacewrites✍ |
