EducationVolunteers Liberate Prisoners From Illiteracy, Launch IEF by YossyInfo(op): 11:40pm On Feb 12, 2019
A group of volunteers in Nigeria has launched an Inmate Educational Foundation (IEF) to liberate prisoners from illiteracy.

The foundation was founded in 2018 by Alabidun Mahfuz, a 300 level student studying Educational Management in Lagos State University. The volunteers of IEF teaches prisoners adult education, prepares them for GCE, JAMB and also supporting the National Open University students among them with tutorials across Lagos State Prisons.

According to Mahfuz, Inmates Educational Foundation came up as a result of a research that relates that 76% of convicted inmates are illiterates and drop outs, so the foundation deem it feet to support by volunteering to teach prisoners through Adult Education.

When asked about the inspiration behind the foundation, Alabidun Mahfuz said "it is the willingness to give back to the society, particularly the forgotten ones, who perhaps if given quality education would have been better of in the society and also the willingness to transform mind and soul through education and making sure they continue even when they gain their freedom".

He noted that the foundation has been registered with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) but it as been faced with challenges like transporting volunteer teams to prisons for teaching, lack of stationery to be used by inmates, lack of motivational encouragement for the students in class and lack of finance to run the foundation effectively.

The foundation has attracted a good number of volunteers among students, professors and lecturers in Lagos State University, they include Dr Ishaq Yusuf, Dr (Mrs)Sulaimon A, Mr Solahudeen Mustopha and Barrister Alliyu Abdurasheed. The foundation presently has about 40 volunteers in thier database.

EducationKick Off Your February With Opportunities by YossyInfo(op): 5:25pm On Feb 04, 2019
Hey There! Let me start with the best wishes for you this new month. Just few weeks ago, everyone was buzzing about the new year. Now, we are counting days into the second month of the year. While it is right to say “time flies”, I personally believe that time is neither fast nor slow. Time is what you make out of it.

At Volunteer hub, we are committed to helping you utilise time- the right way. So you do not only count days but you also need to reflect on the productivity and knowledge that comes with each passing day. In line with this commitment, we have chosen to kick off February by sharing some amazing tips that will help you leverage more opportunities in 2019.

Be Definite
There are many opportunities out there but you have to be sure of what you want. This way, you will be able to pursue the best opportunities for you. Take out some time to reflect on your personality, your vision and your ambitions. Find out which of the many opportunities key into your big picture. Then, focus on how to access these opportunities.

When I wanted to start volunteering, I had no clear idea of what I wanted. So, I basically chased after everything. Of course, I was able to get some opportunities but I was never fully satisfied with them because they didn’t key into my big picture. So, I had to step back and find out what exactly I wanted for myself. After this time, I could channel my energy into what was right for me.

Be Realistic
Your choices should go with the realities of your situation. Different opportunities demand varying degrees of commitment from you. For example, an opportunity may require you to carry out physical outreaches every day. As a student, this may not be the right opportunity for you. Subscribing to such cannot turn out well because you are very likely to be unproductive.

Before grabbing an opportunity, be sure that it will turn out productive for all parties.

Build your Network
Opportunities may be everywhere but they still stay hidden. With the right network, however, you will easily connect with the best ones for you. Once you identify the opportunities that realistically work with your vision, you will need to build a circle that can help you access them.

Be sure to attend events and register on platforms that allow you connect with right-minded persons. Build relationships with such persons and be sure that you put yourself out there.

Best Wishes!

EducationMan Says Acrobat Isn't Magic But Concentration by YossyInfo(op):
Meet Ambrose Albashino, an Urobo man from Delta State. He is a DJ and an Acrobat, who lifts heavy things like ladder, block etc with his mouth or teeth, dancing at the same time to entertain people.

Yossy met him at Freedom Park, Lagos Island, Nigeria.

He said, people think it's magic but it is all about concentration. He explained that, anything he can lift up above his shoulder, it is very easy for him to hold and balance it with his mouth without holding it with his hands.

When Ambrose was 8-year-old, he was defeated by some Acrobats at a dance competition in Ghana, he had to go for the training to prepare for another competition.

You can always meet Ambrose every weekend at Freedom Park, Lagos Island.

Children chat with Yossy

What gift providence bestowed on man that is so dear to him as his children?

The future destiny of a child is always the work of the mother but that is not the case with Fatima whose parents got divorced when she was a baby and was left to live with father's family with no remembrance of her birth date or the face of her mother
*****************************

I met her yesterday, Jan 24, sitting beside a basket filled with cherry at Eko Idumota bridge. She looks matured but I must tell you, Fatima doesn't know her date of birth, neither does she know who her mother is.

Her parents got separated when she was a baby. She was abandoned by them and she started living with her father's family in Kwara State.

According to her, she stopped going to school in Primary 3 and was moved to Mubata, Lagos Island last year. The people, who she is currently staying with doesn't have any plans of enrolling her in school, all she does is to hawk for them everyday.

EducationREVISITING AGE BARRIER, AGAINST EMPLOYABILITY AFTER GRADUATION by YossyInfo(op):
It takes more than your zeal, brilliance and talents to graduate in almost government owned universities in Nigeria, and still be within the recommended or largely, trending age bracket of employability, (26) at maximum, judging by this depressing times. This simply means, once you are still in school, and your age is between 25-26, there is but little hope towards what the labour market is holding for you, a labour market that wouldn't recognize what ever you have been through while in school, especially, Nigeria universities, by the states and at Federal level.

Education8 Things To Do As Youth For Credible Election In 2019 by YossyInfo(op):
Youth are the future and we hold the key to the stability of the country. A young man or woman in the period of vigour, curiosity and action, we can use our energy positively in the forthcoming election.

For a credible 2019 election, youths should do the following:

1. Participation: As youth, we have an indispensable role to play in the next election. An injury to one is an injury to all, we need to put in our efforts for the betterment of all country

2. Educating others: in Nigeria today, we have millions of educated, better travelled and responsible youths who are exposed and experienced to educate others on how to know their right and fight for it. if you are one, reach out to people with little knowledge.

3. Awareness: we can use our knowledge along with modern communication tools to create awareness on how it is done and the use of our voices to people in the rural area who doesn't have access to modern technology.

4. Say No to Political Thuggery: Sadly, youth level of political participation has been low and we are largely noticed in election malpractices which is an injury to our future. Say no to being a dog they order around to dirty job.

5. Know your candidates: it is sadly that majority of us don't bother to conduct research on the aspirants before establishing a blindly love for them which is actually costing us because we made a wrong choice. We should try to know the capability of each candidates and go for the best.

6. Election is not a war: it is said that election come and go but trust me, it leaves several marks on some because of the violence. We can form unity and have a peaceful election

7. Don't sell your vote: This is very important. Don't sell your vote, Don't sell your Conscience, Don't rape your live and future of the unborn. This is your right

8. Collectivity: Pick up a tied broom and try to break it, am sure you can't and that is the power of collectivity. Together we can do it

Children chat with YOSSY

On my way to Obalende, yesterday, January 21, I met Rofiat Adebile at Eko Idumota, Nigeria. The first thing that attracted me to her was the boiled sweet potatoes she was carrying on her head and then her tired look.

It was fun chatting with the 15-year-old girl, who is the 3rd child in the family of four children. Her father is a bricklayer and her mother boils sweet potato for sale.
I felt pity for her, when she told me, she must sell all the potatoes before returning back to the house.

Fortunately, Rofiat is still a lucky girl, aside leaving with her parent at Adeniji Olushi, she attends A.G.S, a government school in Amadia, Olushi.

Her parents death led to the circumstance of staying with her Aunt, whose children her done with school.
