Good day man, been deliberating on getting the 04 crv manual transmission but there are a lot of reports on AC problems (black death) / compressor failure on these models.
My questions are
1) Is it worth the risk of buying the car despite the multiple AC failures report
2) If AC is repaired fully, how long should I expect the AC on the CRV to last before another compressor repair
3) What is the total cost of repair
4) Can the compressor failure be prevented.

its a very good car. I used d 03 which is basically d same. Bought it over a year now all have done is change my oils and its running great. The only issue i heard the car is notorious for is A.C compressor knocks.

In car owner's manual of cars with manual transmission , manufacturers advise owner to engage gear 1 when parked.
Reason modern cars with manual transmission don't start unless you clutch down cos they believe the gear should be engaged when parked.
Unless you want to tell me you know more than the manufacturers.

Wonder where the guy got his info from? What load on gear is he talking about? I hope he realizes that manual cars a lighter than auto cars , so even if there is a load, it is bearable.

When parking downhill it should be on Reverse and Hand break, any other state of parking (uphill or flatland) should be on gear 1 and hand break. Check Car manuals and driving school books. Professional manual driver speaking here.

It's ok bro but my advice is that you should try opening another salon in another place that you will get more income and to pay them won't be difficult but using only one shop will later affect you soonest remember those guys too will likely want to be on their own one day

Although I really don't see 25k different from 27k.
My customers are mainly, young guys like them, and primary school kids. Things are working out fine for me.
For now its set at 25k because they won't really stress themselves.
Each one barbs most 15 people a day, start work by 9 and go home by 4 and 1 takes the night post 4- 8pm, I do this so the have time for other stuffs .

@everlily, great statement, honestly as a youth in nigeria now, 15k per month would be adequate, not great but sustainable.

If you read through the pages of this thread,you will notice that this question have been answered because i also asked same. Some members have tried and confirm that XFT will address the issue. Octane boosters are ok but the challenge would be the number of points it will boost because the minimum RON required is 91 but that number fluctuates in our fuel(between 87 to 89) though it was argued that it can sometimes cross 91 but we aren't sure.

You have done a good research and we don't have premium unleaded fuel in Nigeria hence the resort to octane boosters. The range rovers that you find with engine issues are those that never knew that they had choices as regards the fuel they use on their Range Rovers. I have been using octane boosters since 2009 in response to my passat 2005 and Mercedes e class that all died because of the fuel in Nigeria. In an interview with Ppmc top officials in Abuja in 2007, they told me that anyone driving cars that are not using our fuel are on their own. In 2008, I began researching on boosters and we had already began test samples using toluene, kero and atf and later settled for Johnsens octane boosters. There are over six brands of octane boosters currently in Nigeria. Stp, abro, nulon, Johnsens and dyno tabs. We have been selling Johnsens since 2009 and until 2017, when dangote start selling high grade fuel, we'll still be supplying all our loyal clients. My question
I have worked so had as a young guy and save up a lot and my business is doing too good. I love the Range Rover sports look so I researched a lot for the most reliable year from 2009 downwards and found 2007 and 2009 to be the most reliable. So I'm going with the 2009 range rover sports because the newer the better I guess.
Since the RRS 2009 requires premium fuel and nigeria doesn't offer that and octance boosters can knock or spoil the engine, what do I do about the fuel situation seeing that many Nigerians use RRS and seem to put some kind of fuel to keep their RRS moving.
