Police have arrested six people accused of arranging the marriage of a seven-year-old boy and six-year-old girl in eastern Pakistan, officials said Saturday. The fathers of both children, the cleric performing the ceremony, and three witnesses were charged under the Child Marriage Restraint Act on Saturday after being arrested in Punjab province on Friday, senior police official Saifullah Khan told AFP.

They face six months imprisonment and/or a fine of 50,000 rupees ($500).
Local police chief Mehr Riaz Hussain said the accused have denied that the wedding took place, but police have it on video.
Pakistani lawmakers last month withdrew a proposal to impose harsher penalties on those who arrange child marriages after it was scuttled by a religious body which branded it “blasphemous” and against Islam.
The proposal, which would also have raised the legal age of marriages for females from 16 to 18, called for “rigorous” punishment of up to two years in prison for those who organise child marriages, still common in some parts of Pakistan.
The original law stipulates the age of marriage to be 16 for women and 18 for men but Pakistani religious scholars at the Council of Islamic Ideology, believe it is not in accordance with Islamic teachings.

They say there is no specific age limit for marriage in Sharia as an individual can marry when he or she reaches puberty and puberty cannot be defined by age. Rights activists strongly criticised the rejection of bill.

Million Gume swims in a river full of crocodile everyday. He is not afraid because according to him, once he flashes his naked bum at the crocodiles, they go away. He calls it bum swimming.

“I’m the king of the bum swim,” he laughs and demonstrates by diving into the water and sticking his naked bum in the air.

The 30-year-old from Mhinga Village in Malamulele, Limpopo said he’s been swimming in the Luvuvhu River for five years. The rivers in the area are known to have many crocodiles and many locals have lost their lives in the dark water.



“The crocodiles are scared of me! When I jump into the water and realise that the crocodiles want to attack me, I just show them my bum and they move away. I then carry on with my famous bum swim.” he told Daily Sun.

He said people who come to the river enjoy watching him. On Wednesday afternoon the SunTeam saw Million playing in the river. He floated with his head and upper body underwater like a drowned person. He then disappeared under the water and after a short-time only his bum appeared. George Matiyani, headman of the Mhinga Tribal Authority, said Million must watch out.

“The crocodiles aren’t scared of his bum. They will drag his bum into the deep waters and chew him up,” he said.

Matiyani warned the kids to stay away from the dangerous rivers in the village.

It looks like Jaden Smith isn’t the only teenager fighting against those outdated gender norms. A group of boys at Buchanan High School in Clovis, Calif. proudly wore dresses to school to protest the school district’s gender-biased dress code.

The bold move came after the district’s trustees denied an amendment that would allow boys to have long hair and earrings, and to remove language that says dresses and skirts are strictly for girls. To show their disapproval students came to class wearing clothing usually associated with the opposite gender, meaning guys in skirts and girls in collared shirts. They also started a petition for a new gender-neural dress code that has gained 2,500 signatures.

“Boys deserve to express their sexual orientation and gender identity through clothing, whether it’s the traditional boy look or a more feminine look,” Kristen Van Orden, a sophomore at Clovis North, told the Fresno Bee. “Clothing shouldn’t determine a person’s education.”

According to the American Civil Liberties Union, which has taken the district to court over its dress code in the past and will most likely do so again, the decades-old policy violates the state education code. In addition to the changing trends, many students have expressed concern for their transgender peers who would be negatively affected by these rules.

Clovis is just one of many schools that have recently come under fire for strict and often sexist dress codes. Students and parents around the country have been protesting the extreme rules that are being enforced by school administrators.

A lady Victoria Alaegbu, has been exposed for using charms on her fiancé, Prince Hillary Unachukwu and later running away with his $1.5million (N295.5 million).

Prosecutor, Sergeant Nicholas Akpene said she locked the Prince up inside his apartment with a padlock.

Victoria also had a SIM card with number 07087773669, which was not registered in her name.

The non-registration of her SIM card was with intent to commit fraud. She denied the charges.

Magistrate S. K. Matepo granted Victoria bail in N5million with two sureties in the like sum.

She ordered that the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means and show evidence of tax payment. One of the sureties must be her relation. The case was adjourned till February 10 for trial.

After their degrees, what preoccupies the minds of many graduates is how to get white-collar jobs. But, this is not so for Taiwo Abiri, an Economics graduate of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State, who makes millions from a vocation many educated youths see as dirty – automobiles repair. Taiwo shares his experience with NIYI ADERIBIGBE (an Online freelancer).

He studied Economics because his sister said it was a good course. After his degree, Taiwo Abiri, a 30-year-old graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State, was advised to put in for Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) by his parents, who had high hopes that their son would end up in an exquisite office, where he would earn a six-figure salary. But, all these were never Taiwo’s dream. All he wanted was to be an auto mechanic.

In Lagos, the country’s commercial nerve centre, the Ibadan-born Taiwo is living his dream. He is making money by getting his hands dirty.

After years of learning on Youtube and reading books on how automobiles work, Taiwo’s interest was kindled.This made him to shelve his plan for MBA as advised by his parents. In pursuit of his dream, he set up a makeshift workshop in Lekki, Lagos.

He said: “I wanted to go to a technical school in the United States (U.S.) to learn about car repairs but I could not go because my parents did not initially support what I chose to do. A school gave me admission in the U.S. but I did not have the money to pursue the career. My parents wanted me to go for MBA. My dad said it is a bad idea for a university graduate to think of becoming an auto mechanic.”

Without his parents’ support, Taiwo, then unemployed, was financially constraint to start up his business. To raise money, Taiwo decided to work as Assistant Portfolio Manager at a real estate firm.

He said: “I had just one thing in the mind when I got the job. I said I would work for a year and save enough to learn how to repair cars and start my car repair business.”

Taiwo explained how he saved throughout the year to establish his own business. He resigned after 13 months at the real estate firm and enrolled for apprenticeship at an auto garage owned by Lebanese businessmen in Lekki. He said he made sure that no one knew he had a degree.

“I wanted my technical instructors to treat me the way they treated every other person there,” he said, adding that he worked for the Lebanese company for 20 months without being paid.

While at the Lebanese workshop, Taiwo said the knowledge he got from Youtube gave him an edge over other trainees and made him to use computerised tools, which his colleagues found hard to operate. After his stint at the Lebanese firm, Taiwo started buying auto repair tools from his personal savings and donations from his U.S.-based brother. He established Motomi, his own auto repair firm, in Lekki.

Starting with the repair of family and friends’ cars, Taiwo today boasts of several corporate firms as clients. He said his company is the official mechanic for corporate organisations, such as Century Energy, Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Falcon Gas, AA Rescue, Structon Construction Company and Computer Warehouse Group, among others.

To him, the video streaming platform played a critical role in shaping his dream for the future. Last year, he made N25 million and he is just starting.

“I haven’t even done up to half of what I have in my business plan even though people see me as a millionaire,” Taiwo said, adding: “I can’t tell you all.”

He went on: “But, we will soon start our express service. Clients can invite us and expect us to get to them in record time to fix their vehicles; whether their cars broke down on the highway or the fault happened while they were at home.”

While he nurtures his brand, Taiwo said he has provided jobs for a number of youths, who work with him as trainees and partners.

He said there were plans to start Motomi Express 24/7 to ensure his clients are served round the clock.

While he makes money from his vocation, Taiwo said it is not all rosy for his business. He said accessing loans to boost his business remains a major challenge in his bid to implement his business plan. He said: “I approached the Bank of Industry to see if I could get a loan but they told me that they only give loans to manufacturing companies and not to service companies. I was discouraged because people like me need to be encouraged to set up world-class business in auto repair and servicing.”

Taiwo said he was hopeful there would be investors to fund his big plans, one of which includes setting up a model technical school where graduates would learn auto repair skill to make them self-reliant.

Dear Young’uns,
Beauty isn’t determined by how big your buttocks are. They are indeed beautiful, but they aren’t the yardstick of beauty. Surely, there is a shade somewhere.

We are men, we will treat you how you view and treat yourself. If you see yourself as nothing but booty, that’s how we will treat you. If you see yourself as a light-skin, that’s how we will see you. If you see yourself as a smart woman, that’s exactly how we will see you. You basically define how you want us to see you.

So if you give these qualities strength, that’s how that cookie will crumble.

Don’t kill yourself bleaching your face or trying to get big booty. I’m not saying let yourself go and look like a scarecrow in the rain, no. I’m saying that you are who you are, but you are much better building your mind, because that’s long-term.

Look good, yes, but also build yourself. Read a book. Pick a newspaper sometimes. Surround yourself with people who build you, not people who see you as yellow or black or big booty. The mother of Eminem’s adopted daughter, Alaina, Dawn Scott, was found dead in a park after a drug overdose.
Dawn is also the twin-sister to Eminem’s wife, Kim, and had allowed the couple to adopt Alaina when she couldn’t take care of her.

According to police in Warren, Michigan, 40-year old Dawn died of “an apparent heroin overdose, pending a toxicology test.”

In an interview only 4 months ago, Dawn had revealed that both Eminem and her sister hadn’t offered her any help whatsoever.

“I have a millionaire brother-in-law and a sister with money up the a**, but they’re refusing to give me any help,” Scott said in an interview with Radar Online.

“One night I called my sister and told her I had nowhere to go,” Scott told the website. “She said, ‘That’s not my problem. Don’t bother me,’ and hung up.”

According to Scott’s long time friend Les Martin, Kim was not ready to help Dawn out in any capacity.

The Nigeria football club Enyimba experience a bad thing which baffle most of the people.

The aftermath of the attack by armed robbers on Nigeria Premier League champions Enyimba will affect the players psychologically as newly signed Enyimba player Stephen Chukwudi recalled the chilling experience to Africanfootball.com.

Chukwudi described the terrifying moment, saying he has never seen such in his life.

The management of the team confirmed that armed robbers attacked the entire team around Okene Kogi state on the way to Kaduna for the Super Four tournament today January 18.

It would also be recalled that in 2015, Kano Pillars were also attacked by robbers on their way to a league game in the eastern part of Nigeria.

At least 30 people have been reported dead after Al-Qaeda militants attacked the Splendid Hotel in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

Majority of the victims killed were foreign citizens, with American, Canadian, Dutch, French and Swiss citizens identified among the casualties.
Three of the militants were killed in a gun-battle with Burkinabe armed forces, shortly after which the hotel was recaptured.

“We heard shots, grenades, detonations. It was echoing and extremely loud. It went on for a long time,” a survivor said.

“They kept coming back and forth into Cappuccino [Cafe]. You’d think it was over, then they’d come back and shoot more people. They would come back and see if the white people were moving and then they would shoot them again.”

Budget documents presented by President Muhammadu Buhari to the National Assembly on December 22, 2015, has been stolen. Both the soft and hard copies are missing, Senate Leader, Ali Ndume informed the lawmakers.

Following Ndume’s disclosure of the lawmakers at the closed door session, the deliberation scheduled for today (Tuesday) could no long hold.

Our source revealed that the Senator wants the matter to be a matter of utmost confidentiality, saying it would be an embarrassment to the National Assemble, the Presidency and the country if made public.
The source further noted that the budget deliberation has been postponed until new copies of the documents were obtained from the presidency, the national planning or the Finance Ministry.

The Chairman, Senate Committee of Appropriation, Danjuma Goje, was subsequently mandated to lead a search for the documents and liaise with the presidency, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Ita Enang, and the national planning ministry on the matter.

Some lawmakers attributed the missing documents to presidency’s plot, saying it colluded with the National Assembly management to stealthily withdraw the document to address its discrepancies, especially in area of capital expenditure.

As the capital expenditure of the budget consumes N1.8 trillion, which is over 300 per cent increase from 2015 allocation of N557 billion. This and other key segments of the budget, the presidency presumes, needs to be addressed.

The Internet was abuzz on Saturday after the story of a student, Hillary Agbo-Odeh, who graduated with flying colours against all the odds, went viral.

According to an online medium, Idoma Voice, 30-year-old Agbo-Odeh completed his Psychology programme in Benue State University with a first-class degree after no less than 17 failed courses as an undergraduate.

The Idoma native reportedly completed his secondary education in 2003 before applying for a pre-degree course at BSU in 2005 with the hope of studying Medicine and Surgery.

Though Agbo-Odeh was said to have emerged as one of the best in the remedial programme that year, he was offered admission to study Physics instead.

It said, “In frustration, he took the plunge and settled with the Physics (programme) he was offered with little interest in the course. He struggled with the course due to lack of interest. It wasn’t surprising at all that he could not cope with studies as frustration and depression set in his academic pursuit.

“Agbo-Odeh was at his lowest ebb in his final year when his 300-level result was published. He was at the bottom of his class crawling with 17 carry-overs; he was placed on probation by the school authority. He became the subject of mockery in the school among his colleagues.

“Hilary came to a decision point: ‘Why stay here and be withdrawn?’ He told himself the hard truth, it was time to move forward regardless of the storms.”

The online medium added that Agbo-Odeh then picked a new form for the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board Exams and applied for Psychology, which he considered to be closely related to Medicine.
“By the second semester of his final year (as a Physics student), the JAMB admission (list) was out and he was admitted to study Psychology. Hence, he withdrew from the Physics Department and started a fresh academic journey in the department of Psychology.
“The young resilient Idoma boy from Ohimini, the worst student in Physics, with 17 carry-overs to his name, would graduate from the Psychology Department of the same university with a cumulative grade point average of 4.57.

“His outstanding performance broke many records in the university, including the pioneer first class in the Psychology Department since the university’s inception in 1992. He also became the overall best graduating student of the 14th and 15th combined convocation of BSU held on January 17, 2015. His exploits came with several rewards, he bagged seven academic awards including the Tony and Awele Elumelu Prize for Excellence.”

Investigation into the $2.1Billion arms deal top another turn as the nation’s anti-graft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a top military officer in connection to the deal.

Also, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spokesman Olisa Metuh is being investigated for allegedly collecting N400 million from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA). Olisa Metuh is likely to be invited for interrogation, Nation is reporting.

“The military officer was picked up in connection with the purchase of the arms because he was in charge of inventory and how each unit of the Armed Forces got its equipment. The EFCC has invited the officer to verify the arms purchase and the delivery status.“This same officer related with many former and serving chiefs. There is no way he can be questioned without involving some of these officers in the military hierarchy. The arms scandal is messy and many ranking officers were involved. This is causing anxiety in the military because if the detained officer opens up, the probe will lead to more revelations.”

“These anxious military officers and associates have had limited contact with the top chief in detention facility. The latest dimension of the investigation shows that heads may roll in the military over these arms deals,” the newspaper quoted a source.

It was a shocking scene when a chicken pecked its buyer to coma in Asaba on Friday, January 1.

The Punch reports that a man, Sunday Ibie, was attacked by a chicken around Konwea Plaza in Asaba, Delta state, leaving many to run for their lives. The big broiler was put up for sale at the price of N4,000 but was priced down to N3,000 by the buyer. However, in an attempt to tie the chicken, it pecked the buyer on his eyes.

This made Ibie fall to the ground breathing heavily before he was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba.
The seller identified as Mama Ekene said:
“I am shocked by the incident I was surprised that it pecked man in his right eye as he attempted to tie it. He fell down immediately and I had to raise the alarm for help.”

The Police public relations officer in the state, Mrs. Celestina Kalu, who confirmed the incident to the Punch said:

“What baffled everybody was the way and manner the broiler attacked the victim.’’

She added that the seller had been arrested by police and is helping with further investigations. The spokesperson also said:

“The victim is receiving treatment at the FMC Asaba and he is still in coma. The bird removed part of the flesh in the buyer’s eye and inflicted a deep cut in that part.’’

Meanwhile, there was also tragedy on Boxing Day in Lagos after Sergeant Stephen James, murdered three residents and also took his own life in Ketu area of the state.

A fire that started in midnight at Baboko market in Ilorin, Kwara state, on Sunday has destroyed over 20 shops and consumed goods worth millions of naira.
The inferno reportedly lasted several hours. It allegedly was triggered by a spark from an electric cable in one of the shops when electricity was restored.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, night guards at the market have noticed smoke billowing from one of the affected shops and drew the attention of leadership of the market to it.

The fire fighters came to the scene and prevented the fire from spreading to other shops.

There are no reports about victims so far.

The chairman of Ilorin West local government council, Tajudeen Zulu-Oloje, who visited the scene of the incident on Sunday, said the council would do its best to reconstruct the burnt shops and assist affected traders.

Zulu-Oloje commended men of the state fire service for the quick response.

A Lagos-based medical doctor identified as Dr Akingbade of Veritas Clinics Limited, College Road, Ifako-Ijaiye Lagos died inside his office shortly after attending to a patient recently. According to a report by Vanguard, family sources say he might have died from exhaustion and stress but also had a history of hypertension. ‎One of the nurses on duty, Toyin Ifesan, while narrating what happened said.

“Our boss died at about 10.30pm shortly after he had closed for consultation. He went to see a patient on admission. Thereafter, he retired to his office and sat down. A nurse later went in there to ask him to go upstairs, where we have sleeping facilities, to sleep, having been working since morning.
‎ On getting to the office, the nurse spoke to him but she got no response. She then pushed him, only to find that Dr Akingbade had passed on. The situation attracted everybody in the clinic. He was not sick before death. The only thing we noticed was that, on that day, he was not jovial as he used to be. Unlike him, he talked to the staff without looking at their faces. He looked at the floor while talking to the staff. Our late boss was a very jovial person. He joked a lot with the staff as well as with patients before attending to them. He would ask the patient where he came from, and when he told the place the patient came from, always had one or two things to say about the patients place and people. He was a problem solver when it came to illnesses. If you cry to his office, you will smile coming out. He hardly attended social functions because of the fear that a critically ill patient that may be bought to his clinic may die before returning. So, he was always in the clinic most of the time. Even anytime he hired a doctor to help attend to patients, most of patients still preferred his consultation because of his wide experience. Some would wait, no matter how long, to see him. Others would go and come back.”she said He will be buried early next year.

Authorities are looking for the man who was wearing a Spider-Man mask but acting like a villain during a bank robbery in north Georgia on Tuesday.

One thing is for sure though, that wasn’t Peter Parker behind the mask,

At Around 12:30 p.m., the masked robber entered the Traditions Bank in Cornelia while holding a device and claiming to have a bomb.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said in a news release. He left with an undisclosed amount of money.No injuries were reported.

The suspect is described as 5-foot-7 to 6 feet tall with a slender build. He was wearing dark pants and a camouflage hoodie. He was driving a dark, four-door hatchback similar to a Nissan Versa or Chevrolet Spark, the GBI said.
