Hello Fatima. It would be best if you went online and searched for hospitals and doctors in Odessa. It's not a destination that's common as a destination for Nigerians so your own findings may be helpful. I'm guessing you're interested in that destination because you have hosts there. Ask them for suggestions and face Google for more info. Call and email the hospitals and doctors you find, get their costs, ask them about every associated cost and that way you'll have an idea about hidden charges etc.
As for flights, go to different airline websites, try WakaNow, travel beta, travel start, compare prices using your dates and you'll have a good idea what the average is and then you can make your decision. All the best

Thanks for replying. I actually need to ask the guys at First bank if these cards have limits. Can't believe I forgot to ask. If they do, I'll go the money order route like you suggested, as against paying my bills with it. I've done it at Walmart in the past without issues. Thanks again

MzYemie:
I got PTA from Access bank as prepaid dollar card and had zero issues, theirs had daily limit of 1k and charge of$3 per use which means you withdraw 4 different days, so I bought money order from post office,Kroger etc of $995 and paid into my Bank of America account or collected cash from the BoA atm $500 and$480 on the same day.

Hello everyone. I applied for PTA at First Bank, Motorways alausa on Friday, the 2nd of September with the help of my account officer. Got the number of one of the staff there, and followed up with him and my account officer all of last week.

Finally got a call from him yesterday asking me to come pick up my PTA and bring my passport for inspection and stamping. However, they didn't give anyone cash. They gave $4k (N343.15/usd) on First bank Visa Prepaid dollar cards. Not what I envisioned or planned but half bread is better than none. Will use it to pay my bills.

I have some $$ in cash I've been hoarding and with this, I'm finally ready for my trip next month. Between now and then, if I decide to change any more money, I'll face standalone BDCs. Just grateful to God for respite from all this stress because I applied for PTA at Stanbic and Unity.

Please if your PTA has ever been loaded unto prepaid dollar cards, kindly let me know if you were able to use it seamlessly or if you had any issues.

Now to put my feet up and wait for my travel date. Will share transcripts then. Thanks for all the info on here, everyone. God bless us and this journey we're on or about to go on. Praying for more good news all around. Amen.

Congratulations on the birth of your little one, Temmy. I'm also using Dr Stimage/Carrollton and you've just answered a question that's been bothering me regarding epidural/anesthesia costs. Looking forward to you posting other expenses so I can adjust my spreadsheet. I wonder why I never asked you about Dr/hospital when we PM'd a while ago. Congrats again. God bless you and yours.

Congratulations, madam. God is indeed faithful. This is exactly the kind of birth I want, early full term and quick. God bless you and your little one.

Good day everyone.
At 37 week 3 days on the 20th of Aug, My daughter decided she was ready. I woke up at 4am and was feeling pains like menstral cramps. Gisted with my sis till 8am. She advised we just go to d hospital, just in case it was the real thing, I was like -so if na false labour nko, northside go just slam person $1k for nothing. Lol.
To cut the long story short. We set out at 9am on the dot, 30 mins into the ride, the pain hit me like mad. I first removed my shoe and started shouting Jesus. The pain was not here o and the contractions were 5mins apart.Hospital was 20mins away.
Immediately I got to d hospital, I began to push. Before I entered labour room, baby's head was out.got to the hospital 9.52 and had my baby 10.02.It was a miraculous birth.no time for epidural.Haaaa!!!!! God is faithful. Baby is healthy. Thanks to God.

Thanks for this, need to go and harass my account manager in preparation for next week

XX01:
The person I asked in FBN said that CBN just sold dollars and they missed it. That they will take part in the next one and will sell PTA in select branches.

It's funny that all these banks say they are not selling PTA but they show PTA sales in their published FX utilization schedule. Begs the question who are they selling PTA to.

I ask myself this every time i see those publications
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 4 by YoungMetrosG(f): 6:54pm On Aug 31, 2016
Please do you know which of those banks have started to sell PTA? Any leads on First bank especially?

XX01:
Finally, the 9 banks are back on. Some banks have started selling PTA.

Na wa. For some reason, they've been very good to me. Even calling or texting the few times there'd be delays so I didn't bother rushing to the airport. I guess I caught them on good days.

Chuchuo and XX01 are right, Heathrow airside doesn't work 24 hours. Anyone that has long layovers will have to go through passport control and only people with UK visas can do that.

The Virgin Atlantic flights to LAX land in LHR in the afternoon and leave for LAX in the morning, so anyone buying this definitely needs a UK visa. People considering this should look into flying to JFK as this will be more convenient.

@mumdearest

chuchuo:
I got it too. However the Atlanta has a 16 hour lay over at Heathrow which I don't like You all should confirm that the terms are okay for you before making payment.
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 4 by YoungMetrosG(f): 10:06pm On Aug 08, 2016
I don't know what your travel date is but I found this on Expedia. One way trip, JFK to ORD, Wednesday, August 17th, 1 adult and 1 three year old. Go on the site, enter your dates and other info, it'll show you everything you need. This is the cheapest though. Hope the attachment is clear enough.

This is most likely because of their funding issue. It's been in the news that they've electricity was cut off there because they're owing. You should call them and see if they have plans to rectify all their issues before your appointment date or work on getting a refund. All the best.

Hello guys, please I need help. Just saw on Nigerian embassy website for new york that they are not processing passports at the moment and I have filled application form and paid for it and they gave me 8th of august as interview date. I am confused. Pls any advice on what to do. Has anyone encountered this?

Inside and outside. The one you'll most likely have to use is on one of the lower floors of the terminal. If they need you to go there, they'll direct you.

TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 4 by YoungMetrosG(f): 8:07am On Aug 01, 2016
Only way you can work this is by planning to travel there like some moms have done. You can't use an agent because they need to take your baby's photo at the embassy/consulate

Mumtwins08:
Guess I did not put the question well ... I mean if I don't stay in any of the 3 mentioned states ... Is it possible to still get a Nigerian passport ? Thanks a lot
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 4 by YoungMetrosG(f): 8:06am On Aug 01, 2016
What I usually do is buy a T-Mobile SIM card, with unlimited data, a bit pricey at $100/month but I don't joke with my data limits.
For international calls, you can download the Boss a Revolution app on your smart phone and recharge using their recharge cards. They're sold at gas stations etc. the calls are very cheap. I bought $5 worth in March and for some reason, I checked it yesterday and still have like $3 left. This is with me calling my husband all the time o, sometimes twice a day

fitmaama2:
Pls mamas what SIM card should I buy to maximize funds. Don't have dollars to waste.
Emphasizes on international calls and data of course.

Thanks in advance Nlanders

This company is based in Dallas. I'm sure there are Atlanta based cargo companies. I just don't know of any. Ask on the thread, maybe?

tablesturn:
Good day YoungMetroG, I sent you a DM as regards the shipping company you used. Please I will like to have their details so I can contact and use them later in the year. Most likely from Atlanta to Abuja. Thanks.

Hi there. My friend's mom introduced me to this company who helped me ship a handbag in its box among her things a few months ago and my own share of the cost was $60. I don't remember the exact numbers but they ship for a certain amount per a certain weight. I should also mention that they shipped it Dallas to Lagos, they send things once a week and it took between 7-10 days. I still have the invoice.
DM for the company's name/number, there's also a website address on there. I don't think I'm allowed to post that sort of info on here.

@favored247 You can definitely go to the US without pre paying your bills, not everyone prepays or is even able to, seeing as the current forex situation is not very favorable. Just make sure you have your cash as part of your burden of proof to show that you can conveniently afford the healthcare you seek. I just wasn't sure about only paying for only antenatal visits, still not sure. All the best.
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 4 by YoungMetrosG(f): 9:23pm On Jul 22, 2016
1. Shouldn't be a problem. You are allowed to go to the US border till the day stated on your visa as the expiry date. Allowing you enter the country however is at the discretion of the CBP officer.

2. Be honest and truthful about the reason you're there. If it's for childbirth, say it's for childbirth. Honesty is the best policy. Take your burden of proof, for self confidence purposes.

3. Considerably so. Again, make sure you have your burden of proof.

4. In your case, according to your transcript, this isn't completely necessary. Can anyone else confirm this, please?

5. I don't know that any American hospitals let you pay for prenatal visits so late in a pregnancy. Can anyone else advise on this too, please?

@desoul I called Parkland a while ago and they told me they only attend to Dallas county residents so didn't give me any costs over the phone. It's something like a general hospital so it's a huge place and they're always busy. The best approach with them might actually have to be letting your wife go there to make inquiries, they'll definitely give her the cost then as her address will show she's resident in the county. Please share your findings here when you get them.
