Former first lady, Patience Jonathan, has denied allegations that her accounts were used in laundering huge sums of money. According to The Nation, Mrs Jonathan made the denial in a statement by her media aide, Yemi Akinbode, shortly after four companies which are being investigated for fraud and which she had earlier claimed ownership of their accounts, pleaded guilty to money laundering charges at a Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday September 15th. The statement in part reads; “That Mrs. Patience Ibifaka Jonathan is laying claim to ownership of a whopping sum of $31.7 million dollars fund recovered by EFCC is a complete fallacy. “Mrs. Jonathan does not own and has never owned such amount of money. The reason for this lie is best known to the EFCC. “That another sum of $20 million dollars has been traced to Mrs. Patience Ibifaka Jonathan, is again, another falsehood aimed at hoodwinking the public against Mrs. Jonathan. “That a further sum of $5 million dollars has again being traced to another account of Mrs. Patience Jonathan. This is also a fallacy. That Mrs. Patience Jonathan opened accounts in the names of cooks, drivers and artisans. This is perhaps the biggest falsehood to the knowledge of EFCC.” “This is a clear evidence of the desperation of the prosecution to pull down the former First Lady and confiscate her hard-earned money,” Oyewole said in his statement. It is clear that these unknown faces were agents of the EFCC, who have been stage-managed and tutored to come to court to complicate the case as a strategy to confiscate my money.” http://givenbiznews.com.ng/15m-saga-efcc-is-trying-to-claim-my-hard-earned-money-patience-jonathan/ |

The Euromonitor International report has listed ten Nigerian cities as part of the cities to drive middle class growth in sub-Saharan Africa between 2015 and 2030. The report indicates that the ten cities will play major roles in middle class growth across the region. Kenya’s Kisumu, Mombasa and Nairobi, are projected to take the lead in household income growth in the sub-Sahara. However, due to low living standards, their income increase is expected to fall short of producing the kind of middle class growth seen across the leading cities in the region. Johannesburg, Pretoria, Abuja, and Lagos are all expected to outstrip Kenya’s top cities in middle income growth. According to the report, an additional 600,000 households in Abuja will join those already earning more than $10,000 with 2015 to 2030. See the cities listed below 1.) Aba 2.) Ibadan 3.) Maiduguri 4.) Ilorin 5.) Lagos 6.) Kaduna 7.) Abuja 8.) Kano 9.) Port Harcourt 10.)Benin http://www.givenbiznews.com.ng/list-of-nigerian-cities-that-would-lead-middle-class-growth-in-africa-before-2030/ |
Former First-lady of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan is currently locked in an ongoing battle with the EFCC over the seized $15m allegedly belonging to her. Mrs. Jonathan has since released a statement detailing her own side of the story in the saga. Below are 7 things the former First-lady revealed. 1.) She revealed that she is not a director, shareholder, promoter and/or participant in any of the aforementioned four companies. 2.) She also said she is the sole signatory to all the said accounts. There is no driver, cook or artisan made to open or sign the said account with her. 3.) She denied receiving any money from any unknown sources paid into her accounts. 4.) She further said that the accounts in question were to facilitate her travel overseas, particularly for medical treatment, sundry purchase for herself and her late mother Mrs. Charity Oba (Mama Sisi). 5.) Mrs. Patience Jonathan reminded EFCC that she has never been involved in any economic crime at all. 6.) She also accused the EFCC of placing a no debit order/freezing instruction on her account in spite of the Bank informing EFCC that those four accounts belonged to Mrs. Patience Jonathan personally. 7.) Mrs. Jonathan suggested that the people representing the four companies (that pleaded guilty) were hired by the EFCC to persecute her. http://www.givenbiznews.com.ng/7-major-things-patience-jonathan-revealed-in-her-accusation-against-efcc/ |
