Business / Re: JUMIA: My First Time Buying On Jumia - A Disaster - Big Mistake by zainab007(f): 6:46pm On May 20, 2015
ollyruffy:
I have also learnt my hard lesson from Jumia.

I ordered a Binatone inverter on their platform. The order was placed from a state outside Lagos. I had this initial doubts about placing the order. I finally decided to place the order because of the 1 year waranty stated on the product on their website.

Order placed. Order received. The inverter worked well for about 16 days. Then its cooling fan stopped working. The inverter started over-heating that could damage the internal electronics. The inverter could no longer be used

I contacted Jumia for retrieval to repair. I was told their retrieval policy is 14 days. They says they have no retrieval policy with Binatone for repair or troubleshooting under waranty claims. They asked me to contact Binatone in Lagos or arrange with Binatone for a pick up and repair under waranty.

The Binatone email provided was un-reacheable.

I regreted shopping on Jumia for the product. I would have just gone to purchase my Inverter from an electronic store instead.

This same issue can still come up when you buy from any other store...Sorry about your Inverter though! Jumia is a trusted retailer. We beg manufacturers to produce original items.

Na wa o. So you ignore the 65% discount & imply it's fake simply because this online store decides to make your shopping affordable? If you think it's fake, why not choose another [that can't be the only one they sell], ask the company itself or go to an offline store. I don't get Nigerians sometimes.

Business / Re: Jumia Forces Competition To Crash Prices by zainab007(f): 5:26pm On May 04, 2015
PrinceZoe:
Being doing some research on prices in Nigerian online stores for a blogpost on a website and discovered some things.

In the last couple of days there has been in Vanguard, Guardian, Business Day newspapers, price comparison website TopCheck and many others the comparisons of prices amongst retail stores with all pointing to Jumia as the retailer that takes the crown. This was received with a consequent massive buzz on social media by customers with the hashtag #bestpriceonjumia which for that period trended as number 1 on social media. NOW we see competition reactively decreasing prices; all hail Jumia the fairy-tale Robin Hood of retail.

According to Jonah Nwokopku, Vanguard Newspapers, “An investigation into some of the prices Jumia offers for some products showed a consistent competitive pricing with even international online retailers like Bestbuy and Amazon. Take for instance the Samsung Galaxy S5, this goes for about N119,000 on Amazon and on Jumia for N95,230”. He also said when talking about the Jumia Fashion category that “More so, in categories like fashion, their prices also beat that of their competition by at least 2 per cent. For instance, a pair of Vanessa’s secret’s shoes which cannot be found anywhere below N9,000 in other online stores is available at N6,495 on ”.

Also Daniel Obi, Business Day also corroborated these facts about best prices found on Jumia not compromising on quality, “The low prices also apply not only to electronics but other products. Jumia customers attest to this. Jumia products are cheaper compared to other online stores without compromise to quality”.

When it began, one would think it was another cheesy trend. But after 5 whole days of that relentless #BestPriceOnJumia twitter trend one can’t help but pause and double check. Indeed! Jumia’s price hype does measure up to reality. And going by the crazy engagement level of social fans, who aggressively tweeted favourite products they found at better prices on Jumia, it is obvious this was more than one of those calculated social campaigns, but a testament to Jumia’s commitment to actually offering highly competitive pricing.

When it comes to the reasons how Jumia is able to offer best prices, these publications name different reasons. One very interesting fact is that online retailers have lower fixed costs so they can offer cheaper products to its customers. Also Jumia has been able to forge lasting and favorable partnerships with the biggest brands who are able to offer Jumia their products at reduced tariffs and sometimes even exclusively. These brands are happy and always willing to work with Jumia due to a proven track record of service delivery, customer satisfaction and guaranteed volume of sales. This leaves no doubt that the Jumia team has the best negotiators within the industry.

In an exciting twist, there was a sudden drop in prices from other competing retail stores and it brings the question, is it really so easy to drop prices over-night just to compete? Did these retailers make money off the back of customers? Maybe these prices are a long-term strategy or only a quick fix reaction to Jumia’s consistent best offerings? Either way we know one thing for sure Jumia is the ‘Robin Hood’ for Nigerian customers.

This is the kind of development that arises with competition. I hope this can also happen in other sectors of the economy. Buhari suppose charge Dangote to court sef for monopoly.

Phones / Pls Where Can I Get Nokia 107 Dual Sim? by zainab007(f): 11:56am On Apr 27, 2015
This phone is very strong and a good buy as a second phone. Its really scarce at the market now. I checked online via kaymu, amazon, konga and found it on Jumia at N5,670. I taught i will get a better buy at computer village but got disappointed because i didn't get a better buy. The nearest to that was N6,000.

I seriously think this fluctuation in dollar has affected phone prices generally. I really like the phone. Please where can i get it cheaper?

Jumia.com may keep talking all the nonsense they talk in marketing campaigns, you will only discover the scam they are when you try purchasing a product with your ATM card. I attempted buying a 48 inches 3D Smart TV from the site in order to be able to watch the live broadcast of the presidential election results in the comfort of my brand-new-home. I ordered early to beat any possible delay but that was not to be. they took my 216k, sent me a receipt and disappeared into tin air. This was to be the beginning of the toughest hide and seek puzzle in history. A good that is supposed to be at my door step in 3 to 8 days was no where near in 30 days. Its baffling because when i initially attempted to pay for the order but couldn't complete it because of minor known issues, customer service called me 3 times in one day to remind me that i did not finish my transaction. i smiled sheepishly and assured them each time that i know the order was inconclusive and that i will dully complete it later. when i eventually did complete the transaction, an order number came and i was told that the transaction was successful, but no calls where made to my phone from this scam republic called jumia.com until the day i was supposed to receive my almighty 3D Smart TV. i waited all day at home, canceling every impending task i had just to be around and not to keep them upstanding but nobody came. The next day, i put a call through to the customer service only to be told my transaction was not completed successfully, whhhaaaaat and you took my money, kept mute and didn't even bother to volunteer an automated spam mail? so why did you take my money? they were like we are sorry, it will be refunded according to our refund policy....bla blaa blaaa... I waited for 5 to 10 working days as they promised, called back and was told nobody did anything about it, i sent my data again, same old story customer service giving me the '...don't-worry-your-complain-have-been-escalated-to-our-tier-2-team, we-will-get-back-to-you' bullsh*t! I some how got the contact of some one who goes by the name Niyi and whom I thought was important in the company but turned out to be the greatest let down to the scam house in recent history. The idiot have promised to call me back every time I call to let me know exactly when I will get my money but never called. It would have been nice if he left it at being plain unreliable, but he vowed to live up to the idiot title by totally neglecting my calls these days. To make matters worse, they send me repeated mails about how exciting their services are; i believe its typographical error though, they really meant nightmarish!!! The few staff members that I have been opportune to meet in person, told me off-the-record that buying items from the online scam store is never a good move, that there have been repeated issue of money collected but no goods delivered. A staff told me blankly that even cash on delivery is not advised because most of the products on display are cheap imitations from china (or how else do they get to make them cheaper than market price and still make profit?). No wonder the smart phone my friend bought from them via cash on delivery, is always so hot as if pulled from the oven, when ever he makes more than 2 calls at a stretch! I now see that being at Harvard or being funded by JP Morgan doesn't clean the spots of the leopard, a scam lord will always be trusted to dupe. Please Nigerians, beware of Jumia.com, don't say you were not warned!!!

Please can we see a copy of the receipt. This is quite a serious allegations because i have never had issues on Jumia shopping with them for the past 2 years

I have been mailing the Konga Affiliate Program guys for awhile now about my pending commissions dated back to Dec. 2014 and no one seems to respond or do anything about it. This was the same reason i left Jumia Affiliate Program. I just don't understand why affiliate program in Nigeria always end up like this.

If they know they won't be serious about the program, then they shouldn't waste out time.

Bros, you should have the direct numbers of their managers. Why bring this up here? Deal with your business discretely because Nairaland won't solve the situation. Let's us see some concrete evidence to your allegations too...Cheers!
