Revealed: Why the Naira continues to lose value against the US dollar amid economic woes

By Obinna Ejianya (9News Nigeria - Melbourne, Australia)

t is without any doubt that President Tinubu’s government is committed to implementing economic reforms aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians who are already choking to death by the harsh economic hardship that has hitherto engulfed the country.

These stringent reforms by Tinubu’s government have included measures such as the Central Bank of Nigeria’s reshuffles, stricter policies on banks and Bureau de Change operators, interest rate hikes, financial policies, and the promotion of locally-made products. However, the idea of putting the cart before the horse always leads to going nowhere because it takes the horse to move the cart. The economic situation in the country does not require any gymnastics of political correctness, make-believe packaging, or rhetorical economic jargon, but it requires a common-sense, basic approach, as I have been emphasizing in numerous other publications and media interviews.

It is crucial to prioritize and address certain fundamental issues to achieve meaningful progress. One of these issues is the removal of the fuel subsidy, which continues to haunt, hurt, and hinder the Nigerian economy.

Although there are ostensible claims that the government has [Read more on 9News Nigeria] https://9newsng.com/revealed-why-the-naira-continues-to-lose-value-against-the-us-dollar-amid-economic-woes/

Politics / Revealed: How Betta Edu’s Link With Bishop Oyedepo May Have Triggered Her Suspe by zebrawebs: 1:08am On Jan 27
By Obinna Ejianya (9News Nigeria – Melbourne, Australia)

The dismissal of Betta Edu as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, following her testimony at Shiloh 2023 has raised questions about the connection between her association with Bishop David Oyedepo and her deposition.

In a stunning turn of events, Betta Edu was suspended from her position just weeks after sharing a testimony at the annual Shiloh event of the Living Faith Church, also known as Winners’ Chapel.

Was Betta Edu an unsuspecting sacrificial lamb at the altar of innocence and ignorance or a lamb among bloodthirsty wolves?

Irrespective of Betta Edu’s conspicuously vigorous participation in the presidential campaign that led to President Tinubu’s clinch of the country’s top-most position, she was not in any way spared nor did she receive any mercy when she was allegedly found wanting.

Barely one month after the 37-year-old Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu shared testimony at Winners Chappel Shiloh 2023, she was suspended for an alleged N585 million scam.

The coincidence has raised suspicion and curiosity on why Betta Edu’s can of worms had to be opened without mercy, just after she was openly seen to be a Bishop David Oyedepo’s devotee.

At the Shiloh 2023, Minister Betta Edu was captured on a viral video testifying how she prayed at the previous Shiloh 2022 that God should make her a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. She testified that she prayed that the next time she would come back for Shiloh, she would have been appointed a Minister. She said that she also met Bishop Oyedepo who sealed the prayer that God has answered.

Little did, beautiful Betta know that she would be deposed from the particular office she was testifying about.

In her testimony, Edu revealed how Bishop David Oyedepo, the founder of Winners’ Chapel, had prayed for her to become a minister in Nigeria. The timing of her suspension has raised questions about the connection between her association with Bishop Oyedepo and her dismissal from the cabinet.

During the Shiloh 2023 event, Betta Edu took to the stage to share her testimony. She recounted how she had prayed to God at Shiloh 2022, expressing her desire to become a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the next year’s Shiloh. On the last day of Shiloh 2022, she encountered Bishop David Oyedepo and approached him, requesting his prayers for her ministerial aspirations. Bishop Oyedepo placed his hands on her head and declared that her desire would be fulfilled. Edu left the event with a renewed sense of hope and faith in her future as a minister.

However, the joyous atmosphere quickly turned sour for Edu. Shortly after her testimony, allegations emerged regarding her involvement in a financial scandal. It was claimed that she had approved the disbursement of N585 million into a personal account, intended for grants to vulnerable groups in four states. The scandal gained public attention, leading to calls for Edu’s suspension and a thorough investigation into the matter. President Bola Tinubu, in response to the mounting pressure, took the drastic step of suspending Edu from her ministerial position.

The Coincidence and Suspicion

The timing of Edu’s suspension, coming just after her testimony at Shiloh 2023, has raised eyebrows and fueled speculation. Many have questioned whether there is a connection between her association with Bishop Oyedepo and her dismissal as minister. Given Bishop Oyedepo’s influential role in the political landscape, particularly during the recent presidential election, some have speculated that his hazy esoteric support for a different candidate other than Bola Ahmed Tinubu may have influenced the decision to suspend Edu. However, it is important to note that these claims are purely speculative and lack concrete evidence.

Recall, that a voice recording which many people believed was a conversation between Peter Obi and Bishop Oyedepo surfaced online after the presidential election. In the recording which went viral, Peter Obi was soliciting the clergyman’s help to facilitate votes for him amongst the Christian community and Bishop Oyedepo was affirmative to the request.

Bishop Oyedepo’s Influence

Bishop David Oyedepo is a prominent figure in Nigeria, known for his spiritual leadership and influence. As the founder and presiding bishop of the Living Faith Church, he commands a large following and has played a significant role in shaping public opinion. His endorsement or disapproval can carry weight in political circles, as seen during the recent presidential election. However, it is essential to approach these claims cautiously and seek evidence before drawing any conclusions about the impact of his association with Edu.

The need for a ‘thorough investigation’ that applies the proverbial ‘Goose And Gander’ standard.

One more question here is whether Betta Edu has done what others in Tinubu’s cabinet and beyond have not done or was just a litmus scapegoat.

In light of the allegations against Edu and the suspicions surrounding her dismissal, it is crucial to conduct a thorough investigation into the financial transactions of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. President Tinubu has ordered the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to lead the investigation and ensure that all aspects of the case are examined. It is only through a transparent and impartial investigation that the truth can be revealed and justice served.

I would like to die after eating pounded yam — Pastor Adeboye reveals

Daddy G.O., The General overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye has said that he would prefer to die after he had eaten pounded yam than dying of sickness.

The RCCG General Overseer revealed how he would like to die saying that he does not need to be sick before dying.

While addressing church congregants at the ongoing annual RCCG Holy Ghost Congress of the church on Thursday in Ogun State, said he wanted a death similar to one of his uncles.

Pastor Adeboye continued to say “I know somebody will say if we are never sick, how are we going to die and go to heaven? You don’t need to be sick to go to heaven.

“An uncle of mine woke up on a Thanksgiving Sunday, went to Church, danced like everybody else, came home and his wife gave him a light breakfast before preparing the original food which was pounded yam. She was already pounding the yam when my uncle decided to go to the toilet.

“After she finished pounding, she knocked at the door of the toilet, when they opened the door, my uncle was gone; no sickness, no ache, no pain. If the Lord tarries His coming, I will go on a Sunday after a good meal of pounded yam.”

There is Nothing Like Money Ritual: Work Hard, Stop Killing and Wasting Lives of Innocent People

By Obinna Ejianya (9News Nigeria – Melbourne, Australia)

“A golden advice to desperate Nigerian youths: There is nothing like ‘Ritual Money’ or ‘money ritual’. Stop wasting the lives of innocent people, all in the name of seeking for power to make money. Money comes from hard work, planning, patience and resilience. Get some skills if you can’t get educated, work hard, be persistent in what you do, and then money will come.”

Save Me Oh God (SMOG)
The madness of money ritual is becoming the order of the day in many parts of Nigeria from the South to the North, East to West. Many disillusioned Nigerian youths have discarded the reality of the belief that success comes from hard work to embrace the demonic illusion that they can only make money by engaging in the wicked, demonic dastardly act of killing innocent unsuspecting individuals. News of missing persons, dead bodies found with missing parts, boys killing girlfriends, fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, wives, husbands or other relatives being killed or dismembered for money rituals have, on a daily basis, flooded the news and social media space in recent years.

I want you that is reading this article, if you’re into this or you’re among those who nurse such a notion to understand that it is a mere lie and a big deception from the pit of hell. Wealth and success are requital and only come from, first of all, acquiring a gainful skill, if you can’t afford a good education, and then working hard in whatever you find yourself to be doing, planning well with your income and foreseeing your future. It involves deliberate calculated effort, persistence and being resilient in what you are doing, and before long, you will start recording good success.

In recent years, Nigeria and other sub-Saharan Africa have been plagued by a disturbing trend – the rise in the disturbing trend of money rituals especially among the disgruntled youths. These rituals, which involve the belief that one can acquire wealth through supernatural magical means by sacrificing human beings or parts of their body, have gained popularity among desperate and illusioned segments of the population. However, it is crucial to debunk the myth surrounding money rituals and emphasize the importance of hard work, planning, patience, and resilience in attaining financial success. This article, therefore, aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the issue, dispel misconceptions, and promote the values of diligence and integrity.

Nigeria’s economic challenges have played a significant role in shattering the hope and faith among the citizens, hence they bought into the deception that wealth can be created through some magical means without the need to work hard. With a high poverty rate and limited economic opportunities, many individuals are desperate for a way out of their financial struggles. According to the 2022 Multidimensional Poverty Index Survey, 63% of Nigerians are multi-dimensionally poor, lacking access to essential resources such as health, education, and employment. This dire economic situation creates fertile ground for the belief in supernatural wealth acquisition.

Over the years, the money rituals trend has been deeply ingrained in Nigerian folklore, and religious practices, and even showcased in the entertainment industry such as Nollywood movies. These portrayals often depict rituals as a means to acquire wealth, albeit with negative consequences. While some movies aim to condemn the practice, others inadvertently glamorize it. This perpetuation of the belief in money rituals reinforces its appeal, particularly among impressionable youths.

Those lured into the act indulge in heinous crimes ranging from killing and dismembering body parts of innocent people all in the name of money ritual. Various incidents have been reported across Nigeria, where individuals have been lured into participating in these heinous acts. Sometimes the victims are innocent girls, spouses, friends or even parents of the desperate perpetrator. The perpetrators often believe that using human body parts in rituals will bring them immense wealth. However, these practices not only rob innocent lives but also perpetuate a cycle of violence and fear within society.

The belief in money rituals as a means to acquire wealth is a dangerous deception that exploits the vulnerabilities of individuals facing economic hardships. It is crucial to debunk this myth and promote the values of hard work, planning, patience, and resilience. By embracing these values, Nigerians can build a foundation for sustainable financial success and contribute to the development of a prosperous and thriving society. Remember, wealth comes from hard work, planning, patience, and resilience, not from engaging in wicked and demonic acts.

Debunking the Myth of Money Rituals

It has become imminently essential to debunk this deceptive myth surrounding money rituals and promote the values of hard work, planning, patience, and resilience. The idea that supernatural forces can magically provide wealth is a deception that preys on the vulnerabilities of individuals facing economic hardships. True financial success can only be achieved through acquiring gainful skills, working diligently, planning wisely, and persisting in the face of challenges.

Promoting Hard Work and Diligence

The path to financial success lies in embracing the values of hard work and diligence. Instead of seeking quick fixes through supernatural means, Nigerians should focus on acquiring skills and knowledge that can lead to sustainable income generation. With determination and perseverance, individuals can overcome economic obstacles and create a better future for themselves and their families.

The Role of Education and Skill Development

Education plays a crucial role in breaking the cycle of poverty and promoting economic empowerment. By investing in education and skill development, individuals can acquire the knowledge and expertise needed to thrive in the modern economy. Governments, educational institutions, and the private sector should collaborate to ensure equal access to quality education and vocational training programs.

Planning and Financial Management

Another key aspect of attaining financial success is effective planning and financial management. Individuals should learn to budget, save, and invest their income wisely. By setting financial goals, creating budgets, and adhering to sound financial principles, individuals can build a foundation for long-term financial stability and growth.

Patience and Resilience in the Face of Challenges

Financial success rarely happens overnight. It requires patience and resilience to overcome obstacles and setbacks along the way. Individuals should be prepared to face challenges, learn from failures, and adapt their strategies to changing circumstances. By staying focused, persistent, and optimistic, individuals can overcome adversity and achieve their financial goals.

The Importance of Integrity and Ethical Conduct

While the allure of quick wealth may be tempting, it is essential to maintain integrity and ethical conduct in all financial pursuits. Engaging in illegal or immoral activities, such as money rituals, not only harms others but also erodes trust and undermines social cohesion. Nigerians should prioritize honesty, transparency, and ethical behavior in their quest for financial success.

Believing in yourself as a path to success in life

God has given each person, the inner power, divine ability and wisdom to navigate through hard times, and with strong faith and hope see and get to a better future. We only need to harness those God-given abilities through doing the right things to be able to foresee and achieve the right expected destiny.

Believing in yourself is indeed a crucial aspect of achieving success in life. When you have self-belief, you develop a positive mindset that empowers you to take on challenges, persevere through obstacles, and pursue your goals with confidence.

Believing in yourself helps you challenge and overcome the limitations you may perceive. It enables you to push past self-doubt, fear, and insecurities that might otherwise hold you back from pursuing your ambitions.

While self-belief is important, it’s also crucial to strike a balance between confidence and self-awareness. Recognizing your strengths and weaknesses, seeking continuous growth and improvement, and learning from failures are all part of the journey toward success.

Remember, building self-belief takes time and effort. Surround yourself with supportive individuals, celebrate your achievements (no matter how small), and practice self-care to foster a positive mindset and reinforce your belief in yourself.

Travel / Japa: Nigerians Lament As Canada Suspends Visa Operations In Abuja by zebrawebs: 5:47am On Nov 08, 2023
Nigerians have lamented as the Canadian embassy in Nigeria suspended its operation.

The suspension may not be unconnected with the fire incident that occurred at the commission on Monday, which resulted in the death of two persons.

The Canadian High Commission, via its X handle late Monday night, announced a temporary suspension of its operations.

The announcement implies a suspension of visa and immigration services for persons seeking to visit or emigrate to Canada.

Also, there is no offer of services to Canadians visiting and living in Nigeria and to Canadians in Equatorial Guinea, as well as Sao Tome and Principe.

The statement by the embassy read, The High Commission of Canada to #Nigeria, in #Abuja, has temporarily suspended operations until further notice.”

Meanwhile, the Government of Canada, on Monday, issued a travel advisory via its website, warning its citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Nigeria, including in Abuja, “due to the unpredictable security situation throughout the country and the significant risk of terrorism, crime, inter-communal clashes, armed attacks and kidnappings.”

The travel advisory came a few days after the United States issued a similar warning to Americans in Nigeria.

Canada warned its citizens to avoid Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara, Plateau, Kogi, Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Yobe and the Niger Delta states of Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Delta, Imo and Rivers “with the exception of Rivers’ capital city, Port Harcourt, where we advise against non-essential travel, due to the risk of terrorism, armed attacks, kidnapping, inter-communal and sectarian violence.”

When contacted on the phone, an official of the Canadian High Commission, Demilade Kosemani, declined our reporter’s call and did not respond to a text message sent to his mobile line.

Politics / Revealed: Senate President Akpabio’s Controversial Tactics To Suppress Impeachme by zebrawebs: 10:02pm On Oct 18, 2023
By Obinna Ejianya (9News Nigeria – Melbourne, Australia)

The 15th Senate President of Nigeria, Godswill Akpabio, has found himself at the centre of controversy as his opponents accuse him of employing various tactics to quell the uproar over his potential impeachment.

In the Nigerian political landscape, the Senate President holds a position of power and influence. However, recent events surrounding Senator Godswill Akpabio have raised concerns about his leadership and the manner in which he handles the affairs of the Senate.

In this article, we will look into the details of the allegations made against Akpabio and explore the implications of his actions. From manipulating court rulings to passing bills without proper consultation, Akpabio’s methods have raised concerns among his fellow senators. This article aims to shed light on the situation and provide an in-depth analysis of the events surrounding Akpabio’s tenure as Senate President.

While this article is not meant to smear the Senate President, it is crucial to understand the context in which allegations of Akpabio’s opposition-elimination tactics unfolded. Senator Akpabio assumed the position of Senate President with the backing of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. However, his tenure has been marred by allegations of subjugating his colleagues under the executive and eroding the independence and integrity of the legislature. This has led to discontent among several senators and a simmering plot to impeach him.

The controversies surrounding Akpabio’s tenure as Senate President have not gone unnoticed by the Nigerian public. Many citizens express concerns about the erosion of democratic principles and the potential for abuse of power. They emphasize the importance of a strong, transparent, independent legislature that upholds the interests of the people and provides effective checks and balances on the executive branch.

The last incident of sharing money to bank accounts, or rather in quotes, “prayers to emails” of fellow senators to enable them to enjoy their holidays while the rest of Nigerians were wallowing in stiff hardship occasioned by fuel subsidy removal by Tinubu, really relegated the integrity of the Senate President and his associates.

Decoding BBC’s Global Trojan-Impact: Exploring its Role as a Protagonist of British Imperialism and Neocolonialism

By Obinna Ejianya (9News Nigeria – Melbourne, Australia)

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has long been recognized as one of the most influential media organizations in the world. Established in 1922, the BBC has played a crucial role in shaping public opinion and disseminating information on a global scale. From its inception, the BBC’s reach extended far beyond the borders of the United Kingdom, making it a powerful tool for projecting British influence and values across the globe. In this article, we will have a critical look into the complex legacy of the BBC and explore its role as a protagonist of British imperialism and neocolonialism.

Understanding British imperialism and neocolonialism
Before we examine the BBC’s role in promoting British imperialism, it is essential to understand the concepts of British imperialism and neocolonialism. British imperialism refers to the historical period when the British Empire expanded its political, economic, and cultural influence across the world. This expansion was driven by a desire for resources, markets, and strategic advantages.

Neocolonialism, on the other hand, refers to the continuation of colonial power structures and economic dominance even after the formal end of colonial rule. Neocolonialism often takes the form of economic exploitation, political interference, and cultural domination. These concepts provide the framework for understanding the BBC’s involvement in promoting British interests and maintaining influence in the post-colonial era.

Labour Party Reveals Why Peter Obi Will Not Work With President Tinubu

By Obinna Ejianya (9News Nigeria - Melbourne, Australia)

In a recent development, the Labour Party has made it clear that their presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will not be tempted to work with President Bola Tinubu’s government of national unity.

This stance was revealed by the National Publicity Secretary of LP, Obiora Ifoh, and the National Legal Adviser of LP, Kehinde Edun. The party’s decision comes in the wake of a controversy surrounding Peter Obi’s academic records at Chicago State University.

Obi’s strong belief in the importance of honesty and integrity in leadership has reinforced his refusal to align with any government that lacks these values.

Peter Obi has been vocal about the need to challenge the process of assuming office before moving forward. He believes that the processes through which people come into power are crucial and should not be overlooked.

According to Obi, a leader who falsifies their credentials or age cannot be trusted to make the right decisions or effectively lead the people. In Nigeria’s current political climate, numerous leaders have faced allegations of certificate forgery and age falsification. Obi argues that such actions undermine the credibility of leaders and their ability to govern honestly.

During an interview on Arise TV’s ‘Morning Show,’ Peter Obi took a swipe at President Tinubu. He emphasized that leaders who engage in dishonest practices should not be entrusted with the responsibility of governance.

Obi’s remarks were seen as a direct criticism of President Tinubu, whose academic qualifications have been a subject of controversy. By publicly expressing his concerns about the integrity of leaders, Obi has made it clear that he cannot work with someone who has been accused of falsifying their credentials.

Atiku’s Legal Contingency: Why Supreme Court May Remove President Tinubu From Power

The political atmosphere in Nigeria is currently turgid, pregnant and abuzz with discussions and speculations about the possibility of the Supreme Court removing President Bola Tinubu from power.

Atiku Abubakar’s legal team, led by Chris Uche SAN, filed a motion on notice at the Supreme Court, invoking Order 2 Rule 12 of 1985. This motion seeks to admit fresh evidence of certificate forgery and perjury in support of Atiku’s pending appeal before the Court. Atiku asserts that the evidence he presents proves that Tinubu’s Diploma Certificate from Chicago State University is not authentic and was allegedly forged.

The motion filed by Atiku’s legal team is predicated on several grounds, the most significant being the release of academic records of Tinubu and the deposition of the Registrar of Chicago State University before a United States Court. These grounds further highlight the fact that Tinubu was not qualified to contest the election as required by Section 137 (1) (j) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).

This development stems from recent revelations and lingering legal actions initiated by Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections. Atiku’s legal team has presented fresh evidence to the Supreme Court, accusing President Tinubu of forgery and perjury. In this article, we will delve into the details of this case and explore the reasons why the Supreme Court may decide to remove President Tinubu from power.

The Allegations of Forgery and Perjury
Atiku Abubakar’s legal team has submitted new evidence to the Supreme Court, alleging that President Tinubu forged a certificate from Chicago State University (CSU) and committed perjury by submitting it to Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the 2023 presidential election. The crux of the matter lies in the authenticity of the academic records of President Tinubu, which were obtained from CSU following an Illinois court order. Atiku’s legal team claims that the certificate submitted by Tinubu to INEC is a forgery and that the Chicago evidence supports this claim.

The Role of Chicago State University
Chicago State University plays a pivotal role in this case as it was compelled by a US court order to release President Tinubu’s academic records to Atiku’s legal team. The university provided the requested documents, allowing Atiku’s lawyers to scrutinize the records for any alleged discrepancies. The obtained records include certificates of other students, which were requested to compare and identify potential inconsistencies.

This is the Full Speech by the Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 78th United Nations General Assembly 2023 in New York, United States.

Full Speech obtained by 9News Nigeria from the United Nations platform.

STATEMENT DELIVERED BY HIS EXCELLENCY, BOLA AHMED TINUBU, GCFR PRESIDENT, FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA

AT THE GENERAL DEBATE OF THE 78TH SESSION OF UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY, 18TH SEPTEMBER 2023.

Mr. President, Heads of State and Government, Secretary-General, Distinguished Delegates, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Mr. President, On behalf of the people of Nigeria, I congratulate you on your well-deserved election as President of this Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

We commend your predecessor, His Excellency, Mr. Csaba Korosi (Cha-ba Kor-o-chi) for his able stewardship of the Assembly.

We also commend His Excellency, Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, for his work seeking to forge solutions to humanity’s common challenges.

This is my first address before the General Assembly. Permit me to say a few words on behalf of Nigeria, on behalf of Africa, regarding this year’s theme.

Many proclamations have been made, yet our troubles remain close at hand. Failures in good governance have hindered Africa. But broken promises, unfair treatment and outright exploitation from abroad have also exacted a heavy toll on our ability to progress.

Given this long history, if this year’s theme is to mean anything at all, it must mean something special and particular to Africa. [READ MORE ON 9NEWS NIGERIA] https://9newsng.com/unga78-president-tinubus-full-speech-at-the-78th-united-nations-general-assembly-2023/

Five Actions President Tinubu Should Take to Ease the Suffering of Poor Nigerian Citizens

# Understanding the Fuel Price Hike, Its Impact on The Economy and Adverse Effect on Average Nigerian Citizen.

Whereas Nigerians were crying under Buhari, suffering in Nigeria has gotten to an unbearable level since President Tinubu assumed office on 29th May 2023.

This suffocative hardship on Nigerians was evidently fuelled by the so-called “Removal of Subsidy,” which even if it was genuinely done with good motive, was rashly ordered into implementation.

Policies on Fuel hikes should never be done in a rush, being that fuel/petrol is the source of the energy that powers every economy.

Be it the global economy or the national economy, fuel price is always one of the quintessential determinants of the state of any economy.

In simple economic knowledge, economic condition is simply the ability of people to buy necessary needs affordably. With that basic information, the logistics for the availability of such necessary needs are highly or mainly dependent on the availability of the means of transportation be it by sea, air or road.

This is why every cent increase in the global price of fuel reflects on the global economy as well, talking less of a national economy like that of Nigeria.

Therefore, there is no justifiable economic reason why the just inaugurated government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should rush into a rapid drastic increase in the price of fuel all in the pseudo garb of “Removing subsidy” as it were.

In common economic sense, the economy is controlled by making goods and services available at reasonable quantities and as well providing purchasing power, which is money, the means of exchange of goods and services. In such equilibrium, the economy is conducive for the common man irrespective of other factors.

Having thrown light into the simple matrix of running a common economy as that of Nigeria, we will now make practical suggestions that could workably bring the economy to a conducive condition and allow “the poor to breathe,” just in a very short time.

The recent fuel price hike in Nigeria has had a devastating impact on the lives of poor citizens across the country. The removal of fuel subsidies has caused a sharp increase in the cost of living, making it even more difficult for struggling families to make ends meet. In this article, we will explore the consequences of this decision and discuss five actions that President Tinubu should take to alleviate the suffering of poor Nigerian citizens.

Understanding the Fuel Subsidy Removal and Its Consequences
The fuel subsidy removal was implemented with the intention of reducing government expenditure and promoting economic growth. However, the consequences of this decision have been far-reaching and detrimental, particularly for the most vulnerable members of society. The sudden increase in fuel prices has led to a surge in transportation costs, making it more expensive for people to commute to work or school. This, in turn, has negatively impacted their ability to earn a living and access essential services.

Moreover, the rise in fuel prices has also caused a domino effect on the prices of other essential commodities. Food prices have skyrocketed, making it increasingly difficult for families to put meals on the table. The cost of electricity has also increased, putting an additional burden on households already struggling to make ends meet. Overall, the removal of fuel subsidies has had a cascading effect on the cost of living, exacerbating the suffering of poor Nigerian citizens.

The Worsened Suffering of Poor Nigerian Citizens Due to the Fuel Price Hike
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, In Nigeria, 40.1% of people are poor according to the 2018/19 national monetary poverty line, and 63% are multidimensionally poor according to the National MPI 2022.

The fuel price hike has hit poor Nigerian citizens the hardest. For those living below the poverty line, every naira counts, and the increase in fuel prices has pushed them further into destitution. Many families are now forced to choose between buying food or fuel, leaving them in a constant state of hunger and despair. The lack of affordable transportation options also means that children are unable to attend school regularly, depriving them of an education and perpetuating the cycle of poverty.

Additionally, the rising cost of living has led to an increase in crime rates, as desperate individuals resort to illegal activities to survive. This not only poses a threat to public safety but also perpetuates a vicious cycle of poverty and crime. The suffering of poor Nigerian citizens cannot be ignored, and urgent action is needed to alleviate their plight.

Politics / 2023 Presidency: South-west May Dump Tinubu For Orji Kalu - Babafemi by zebrawebs: 10:51am On Nov 23, 2021

Nairaland / General / Edo State Government Moves To Stop Coronation Of Sultan Shuwa Arab In Edo State by zebrawebs: 6:51pm On Aug 19, 2021
Edo State Government Moves To Stop Coronation of Sultan of Shuwa Arab In Benin Kingdom

The Edo State Government has issued a statement on the planned coronation of a Sultan in the state by some Northern Muslim group saying that such an event is sacrilegious and goes against the state’s Traditional Rulers And Chiefs Law.

The statements were made in an official letter seen by 9News Nigeria South-South correspondent that was supposedly issued from the Edo State Government and signed by the Secretary to the Edo State Government, Osarodion Ogie, Esq, the state has said.

9News Nigeria had reported earlier on “Northern Islamic leaders plan coronation of a Sultan of Edo State”

READ MORE: SHOCKING: Northern Islamic Leaders Plan Coronation of Sultan Of Edo State
The letter stated three count reasons why such an event should not be allowed in the state which included the fact that it could resonate to a breakdown in the peace and security of the state as a result of possible provocation by aggrieved citizens.

It said that the Edo State government has been inundated with complaints from indigenes and residents of the state over the purported move to embark on the coronation of one Idriss Addano as “Sultan of Shuwa Arab of Edo State.”

It also said that the planned coronation ceremony is a potential threat to the peace and security of the Edo state, with the capacity to cause a breakdown of law and order as citizens of the state are likely to be provoked by the obnoxious ceremony.

“Under the Edo State Traditional Rulers And Chiefs Law, it is an offence for anyone to proclaim himself, or allow himself to be proclaimed as the holder of any traditional title not recognized under the said law and/or without the approval of the appropriate authorities.”
