LAGOS: State govt advises residents on traffic diversions as President Buhari visit Lagos on Monday 23/5/16 for 2 days. Read the press statement below.. The Lagos State Government will formally welcome President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday, May 23, 2016 on a two-day working visit to the State. It will be President Buhari's first official visit to the state since he assumed office about a year ago. A statement issued by the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, stated that this is the first time in about 15years that a sitting President will be visiting the State on a working visit and is a testimony to the landmark achievements in the last one year of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode as well as the good working relationship between Lagos State and the Federal Government. Ayorinde added that President Buhari during the visit, would formally commission the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Rescue Unit in Cappa Oshodi built by the State Government to ensure prompt and swift response to emergency situations in the State. He said the President would thereafter commission the newly constructed Ago Palace Way in Okota, Isolo after which he will pay homage to the Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty, Oba Babatunde Rilwanu Aremu Akiolu at the Iga Iduganran, Lagos Island. The Commissioner disclosed further that the President would later in the day be hosted to a reception rally by the State Government at the Tafawa Balewa Square, (TBS) Lagos where he will also commission and hand over security equipment and vehicles contributed by the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode-led administration to securities agencies to beef up security in the state. The release added that activities for the first day of the President’s visit would be rounded up with a State Banquet in his honour at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island. The President will on Tuesday participate as the Special Guest of Honour at a breakfast session with Corporate Lagos to be hosted by Governor Ambode at the Lagos State House, Marina, after which he will have a short session with the public service at the State House, Alausa-Ikeja. The Commissioner quoted Governor Akinwunmi Ambode as being joyous over this landmark presidential visit to the State that contributed so much to his emergence as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He added that Lagosians are looking forward with excitement to receive the President in the State, just as he urged residents to bear with law enforcement agents and traffic control authorities who will effect road diversions in some of the routes that the President motorcade will pass through during the visit. Welcome to Nigerian campuses where little
girls are practising 'wifely functions'! Just
visit the boys' hostels and you would be
disappointed to find out that it is now
common for a girl to live in with a course
mate. It is now common for her lover to give her the popular compliment 'you look sexy my gal' and she would gladly reply 'thank you honey' with a flirty voice and a romantic smile. Who is her lover? A 300 level student whose CGPA is barely up to 1.78! And they are aiming for the next best couple award for the session by the departmental association. So, the girl need to live in with him to prepare along. What nonsense! It seems that some girls suddenly loose their senses immediately they gain admission. I've seen that some of them have no more sense of caution, honour and dignity. They would change their wardrobes and acquire a new set of make ups just to look 'campussy' and sexy enough for the guys. In months, they would start sleeping around with little boy, boys who collect pocket money from their uncles! Dirty boys who most of the time are infected with sexually transmitted diseases. Hey! I want you to know that you were sent to school to obtain a degree not a disease. The campus is called a school; school not sex! You are on campus to receive education not ejaculation. You are here to master the use of a pen not the pleasures of a penis. Wake up girl! Do some thinking. Your future is greater than the 'best couple award'. You cook for a boy you are more intelligent than. You give your virginity to a boy who will definitely leave you after graduation. You play wife to a boy who cannot even care for himself. Oh, you have given too much. Enough! Open your eyes! Can't you see you're being foolish? You are passing through the fears of unwanted pregnancies yet you are opening your legs to a coward who cannot stand before your father. And when you eventually gets pregnant, he would brutally advise you to abort it and you would timidly agree; then face the consequences later. What a shame! You may master the use of condoms but you can't master the punishment of your conscience. Don't you know you are bringing shame to your family? Don't you know that you are cursing your mother by accepting to sleep with a boy (not even a man) without her consent? I cautioned a girl against sleeping around and she replied 'Sir, I don't sleep around; its only one boyfriend I have and am faithful to him'. What impunity! That's classified harlotry. And don't you know that sleeping with a man without your father's blessings is bringing a curse to your future? What happened to your cultural values? Somewhere in your heart you know he would use you and dump you; so why are you setting up yourself for a heartbreak? I want to remind you that you are a lady and one day you may get married. And your husband would know that you are such a dirty bitch who sleeps with anything on trousers. The greatest gift a lady would give to her husband on the wedding night is her virginity not the certificate of best couple of the year on campus! The other gifts for the rest of her life are her care and character not her curves and complexion! Real men know this; so, get it screwed in! Those treacherous boys would call you 'sexy' and you would answer? Oh, sorry! They touch your breast and you would smile? They would ask you out and you would oblige? Oh, you are indeed a mistake. Am not saying that you should be rude or never live a 'social life' but I want you to think deeper than you are currently doing. I want to turn your attention back to your books. You are not in school for breast exhibition. So, pay less attention to those boobs and give more attention to your books! You are not in school for cat walking show. You are rather here to show us the dignity of womanhood. You are here to prove to us that you are costly. So, why make yourself so cheap? I am writing this with both love and pain in my heart and that's why am sounding stern. I want you to look beyond now and think of what advise you would give your own daughter when you become a mother. I hope I have not offended you...if I have, please repent. To the decent girls I have seen on campus: do not be swayed by these evil. Be consistent and keep celebrating your purity. I am always proud of you. And God is more proud of you. |
NANS REJECT MOVES TO SUBJUGATE UNILAG STUDENTS “The future would have no pity for those men who, possesses the exceptional privilege, of being able to speak the words of truth to their oppressors, haven taken refuge in an attitude of passivity, or mute indifference and sometimes in cold complicity”. (Frantz Fanon) It is most unfortunate that rather than finding progressive prescriptions for demands of the agitating students, poor welfare and hike in price of commodities, the school management is scratching the issue on the head by portraying the students as custodians of exuberance and scapegoat of indiscipline, putting in place mechanisms to subdue and incapacitate the students from exercising their constitutional rights, not minding the root cause of indiscipline to be injustice and inequality. The suspension of University of Lagos Student Union (ULSU) until further notice came to us in rude shock despite the submission of our position and recommendations to the investigative panel. We contend the suspension or banning of students union has never been and will never be the solution to proactive/vibrant unionism. We advice the management give up on effecting the suspension and other unrevealed plans to further victimise or intimidate the union officer to have opened up their poor academic, administrative and domestic welfare. Compelling students to sign undertaking and indemnity form is laughable; students taking re-absorption oaths requires clarification. The taming tactics imbibe by the management reveals the underbelly as calculatedly designed to paralyse effective’s student agitations, clampdown student from their liberty and a capital disrespect of the young adulthood. We are to face this much, handcuff ourselves before law as we are expected to keep mute on the rots and maladies of our grate Akokite. NANS DEMAND Gone are the days of “bread and butter” unionism, the current century cannot afford to breed a generation of youths who are merely academic geniuses but who are politically robots and ideological nonentities. We demand the total reverse in suspension/dissolution of University of Lagos Student Union (ULSU). We reject outrightly the signing of undertaking/ indemnity form and taking of re-absorption oath by any students. We request a proper address of the students demands. We call for a resolution meeting with the management. It is in the interest of peace and progress; we like to plead to UNILAG management to desist from scratching their nose with the fangs of a viper. Experience shows that fire burns! A goat does not bite except when push to the wall. Nigeria students shall not hesitate to mobilise to continually shut down activities of the institution until our demands are met. We however give a grace of 72hrs ultimatum for our demands to be granted (which elapse on Thursday 28th of April 2016) before we embark on our operation #SHUTDOWNUNILAG. Signed, Comrade Sanusi Sulaimon Chairman NANS/JCC Lagos axis cc VC UNILAG Dean students Affairs UNILAG DSS Lagos command NPF Lagos HQR/ Area C command Governor’s office Lagos house of assembly All students Media Lasu students are also ready for the movement LASUSU STANDS WITH UNILAG STUDENTS' UNION: Injustice somewhere, they say, is a threat to justice everywhere. GREATEST LASUITES! We all are aware of the attempts by the University of Lagos Management to subjugate and enslave the students of UNILAG. In this light, the National Association of Nigerian Students,NANS, has invited LASUITES,being the most militant but reasonable students in Africa to a peaceful protest at UNILAG on Thursday,28th of April, 2016. The protest is aimed at warning all University managements across Nigeria that, Students' Unionism is here to stay and together, we,all Nigerian Students say NO to : 1.Suspension of Students' Union bodies. 2. Victimization of Students' Union leaders. 3. Embezzlement of funds meant for Students' welfarism, infrastructural development and 4.Authocratic and draconian administrative techniques. Hundreds of students of the University of Lagos blocked the major road leading to the institution’s main campus at Akoka yesterday to protest against epileptic power supply and poor water supply. The protest was held at different sections of the school, including the Senate building and the Assembly Hall where the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rahman Bello, was hosting a number of dignitaries for 2016 First Award Winners’ Lecture. While the programme was on, the protesting students laid siege at the entrance of the Assembly Hall, rebuking the vice chancellor and other management staff. One of the protesters who identified himself as Bimbo narrated how difficult it had been for some of them to get water for basic needs. He said for a number of days, the students had been experiencing power outage. “We don’t have water to bathe nor wash our clothes. Power outage has even worsened our plight. All efforts to get management to share in our plight have proved abortive. What else can we do? So we resolved to stage the protest to draw management’s attention to our plight,” he said. Another student, Chuks Johnson, described the VC’s hosting of the First Award Winner’s Lecture as insensitive. “They know we are hurt, yet they can’t even listen to us. All they can do is to organise a programme and expect us to keep quiet. That won’t happen. The VC must come out and address this issue,” Johnson said. Daily Trust correspondent observed that the VC could not show up to address the students who later dispersed when efforts to enter the Assembly Hall proved abortive as security operatives locked the entrance doors. Efforts to also get the varsity’s spokesperson to react proved abortive. http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/general/unilag-students-protest-against-water-power-outage/141365.html |
