PoliticsOsinbajo Woos Scandinavian Investors At Nordic-african Business Summit by Zeemam(op): 9:44am On Oct 09, 2019
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says the Buhari administration is consolidating efforts made in its first term and is committed to expanding opportunities for investments in renewable energy, technology and other sectors of the Nigerian economy.

The Vice President stated this on Tuesday while responding to questions from a cross section of Norwegian investors at a round-table event at the Nordic-African Business Summit holding in Oslo, Norway.

Making specific reference to the gains made in reforming the energy sector, the Vice President said, “some of the issues around the power sector have been around the whole question of trying to open up for more willing buyer, willing seller arrangement as opposed to selling to the grid.

“I think what has happened is that some of the contractors would prefer to sell wholesale power to the national grid; of course, that gives more certainty with regards to their revenues. But what we have tried to encourage now is more of the willing buyer, willing seller arrangement.”

Citing an example of the progress made with the Energizing Economy programme in Sabon Gari, Ariaria and other markets across the country, Prof. Osinbajo said, “what is sustainable, long-term, is actually the situation where a private power company can supply whole areas, going through the whole metering process”.

PoliticsWhy States Must Have More Powers – Osinbajo by Zeemam(op): 4:51pm On Oct 05, 2019
Says we must strengthen states for a more productive nation
*Calls for devolution of more power to States enables them to control more of their resources
*VP advocates for States & community police forces, correctional facilities, special courts

Nigeria can become a stronger and more prosperous nation if states have more powers, according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.

Prof. Osinbajo stated this while speaking at the 59th Independence Anniversary Lecture at the Island Club, Lagos, on Friday.

The Vice President, who titled his lecture “the whole is only as great as the sum of its parts,” said Nigeria’s population and diverse ethnic groups has necessitated that states in the country be strengthened to enable them contribute more to national productivity and development.

Prof. Osinbajo stated that this can be achieved with “stronger, more autonomous States that are able to generate and control more of their resources.”

According to the Vice President, the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is ensuring that states collaborate more with the Federal Government on different initiatives to improve visionary governance in the country.

“The most important transformative change we can make in Nigeria is to lift the majority of our people out of deprivation by speedily creating wealth and opportunity leading to the eradication of poverty,” he said.

He further said that “The nation cannot be wealthy when its component parts – the states – are poor. The standard of living of the federation depends on the standard of living of people who live in the states. In other words, the federation can only be as rich as its richest state and as strong as its strongest state.

“Our national indices merely aggregate the realities of our weaknesses and strengths as present in all our constituent units. Consequently, we can only build a stronger and more prosperous nation by building stronger and more prosperous states.”

He said, “Building stronger states means ensuring the devolution of more power to the states, enabling them to control more of their resources and make more of their own administrative decisions such as the creation of Local Governments, the establishment of state and community police forces as well as state correctional facilities; creation of special courts and tribunals of equivalent jurisdiction to high courts. The point I am making is that states must have more powers and more rights.”

The Vice President stated that, “The challenges confronting us now are about strengthening internal coherence and cohesion. It is about moving from affirmations of unity to the achievement of synergy in which the sum of our strengths exceeds the totality of our constituent parts.”

He noted that, “Opportunities for smart and visionary governance abound. So, for example, while states may not be able to right now establish their police forces, they can collaborate with the federal government on initiatives such as community policing which also revolves around the idea of localized law enforcement. Our administration is currently pursuing this option. When we set our minds to solving problems, we will find that what is truly possible is not as distant from the ideal that we seek.”

There is no sense in the above piece
PoliticsProf. Osinbajo: The Man, The Media Devourers, His Triumph by Zeemam(op): 3:47pm On Oct 04, 2019
I have read in recent times, the roar of media lions crying badly, so deadly in sound and it appears that they have devoured the whole city. But in reality, their calibers and set of other carnivorous animals, blood – thirsty are already in the zoo of immorality and out of contact.

Flipping through my gadget in check of news and opinions on Nigerian online media platforms, I came across an article: “Now that Osinbajo survived his Obituarists” by one Abimbola Adelakun, what comes to mind is some of the popular 2019 campaign slogans, and of course in title, Osinbajo really survived the OBItuarists (and dealt a big blow to their political career).

In other views, just like a ram who has disappointed its principal, the media devourers who are never satisfied with their paymaster are all out to justify their pay and also seek for more as par-se, “pocket don empty”.

But just like every other Adelakuns, they never see anything good about Buhari’s government, because the leakages that brought about free money is being blocked massively. The bad news they won’t like to hear is that Osinbajo led team has moved Nigeria to one of the top twenty in the world on ease of doing business.

Those hardened Buhari antagonists, would rather want to assassinate the character of his fine deputy, whose CV is quite intimidating. Before you can kill a man’s character, it is good you learn from history, unfortunately they never did, or rather, they were being so sentimental in the process.

Some years ago, I wrote about the Vice President and his relationship with the President, since then I saw consistency in his attitude and this brought me closer to investigate the former university lecturer, vis-a-vis his relationship with people, I mean everyone he came across.

By David Omoruyi

When Farooq writes his half-brained pieces on the person of none other than the Vice President of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, you will not off the mark to ask if he was denied an appointment as SSA Media & Public Affairs in this administration. His online posturing and bravado speak of a scorned lobbyist in diaspora, who has resorted to taking shots at one who does not recognize his existence.

In an online blog article titled “Osinbajo is sucking up to Buhari to save his job”, which was dated October 3, 2019 and also posted on his social media handles, he makes a feeble attempt to cast aspersions on the loyalty of the VP towards his boss. The same quality that is highly sought after by every employer or superior, as is greatly admired from far and near, is what he futilely tries to cast a shadow upon.

He sits in faraway US churning out so much senseless diatribes that make you want to call an Atlanta ambulance for him right away from here in Nigeria, be it via Skype or Internet call. When a supposed PhD holder chooses to remain misinformed in these days of free Google search engine, then it is a real cause for alarm. The damage he does to those who take him seriously at their own risk, remains unquantifiable. It amounts to a crime of sorts for you not to have an idea, and yet proudly remain clueless in this internet age.

When you are addressing a gathering of dignitaries with the phrase “all protocols observed” it covers a wide range of titles and salutations. His choice to pick on the VP’s Independence day speech continues to show his level of obsession and misplaced disenchantment. He needs to come out forthright and tell us if he has a crush on Osinbajo!

Jumping on the bandwagon of fake news propagators has to be a new low for this pseudo-journalist who has been known to block contrary views on his social media whenever he gets called out for his cooked up lies by confronting him with cold hard facts and figures.

The whole drama that was brewed in a teacup and served up on social media in the past few weeks must have so titillated Farooq that he went to town with his own spin of impeachment stories which cannot hold when subjected even to the most minimal test of scrutiny. Each day and every week we have seen reports of the VP going about his official and delegated duties; being accountable to the Nigerian people he took an oath to serve.

Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a leader of the Yorubas and even President Buhari accords him the utmost respect as a leader of the party. The fact that a Senator remains addressed by the title is enough to be addressed as “Your Excellency” if the person speaking chooses to. In Africa, we tend to defer to the older and wiser man in public and private. Farooq can go ahead to sue the VP for choosing to be a true son of the soil if he is so triggered by this deserved show of respect.

PoliticsTradermoni Is Not Vote Buying Afterall! by Zeemam(op): 12:55pm On Oct 04, 2019
By ‘Dayo Peters
I was one of those who believed very strongly that TraderMoni was vote buying and this was so for obvious reasons. Firstly, the disbursement of funds to traders happened too close to the campaign for 2019 elections, even though the claim was that the senate approved the budget late.
Secondly, I thought it as a project of the Vice President’s to attract the masses, instead of truly being a social welfare programme. I also thought it would end after the elections.
Also, there were too many news but it obviously now seems like most of them were fake ones surrounding TraderMoni, including the fact that cash was disbursed to traders directly, but since the institutionalization of the NSIP was announced on Independent Day, I must further admit that many, including myself, were wrong about the intentions for the social welfare programmes.
My change of heart which came after more thorough investigation (if I may say so myself) has spurred me to submit this piece aimed at enlightening others, just as I have found enlightenment in regards to the SIPs.
The Federal Government of Nigeria established the National Social Investments Programmes (NSIP) in 2016, to tackle poverty and hunger across the country. The primary aim of the programmes under the scheme is to provide and distribute resources to the class of the nation’s vulnerable population at the very bottom of the economic chain; these include children, youth and women.
TraderMoni is one of the various National Social Investment Programmes, belonging to the family ‘Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme’ (GEEP) alongside MarketMoni and FarmerMoni. GEEP is a micro-lending intervention that targets traders, artisans, enterprising youth, farmers and women in particular, by providing loans between 10,000 and 100,000 at no monthly cost to beneficiaries.
Since inception, these programmes combined and supervised by the Office of the Vice President, have supported more than 4 million beneficiaries nationwide through a completely transparent process supported by the Ministry of Budget and National Planning (MBNP) and other notable MDAs with aligned goals.

PoliticsNigeria 59th Independence; What Has Changed? by Zeemam(op): 9:53am On Oct 02, 2019
By Solagberu Mustapha Olatunji

Nigeria got her full independence on 1st October, 1960 under a constitution that provided for the parliamentary system of government with legislative powers vested in a bicameral parliament, executive power in a prime minister and cabinet, and judicial authority in a Federal Supreme Court.

The NCNC headed by Nnamdi Azikiwe who took control from Herbert Macaulay in 1946 after his death, formed a coalition with Abubakar Balewa’s NPC as neither party won a majority in the 1959 elections.

Balewa continued to serve as the prime minister, a position he had held since 1957, while Azikiwe took the largely ceremonial position of president of the Senate.

Azikiwe became president of the country on October 1st 1960, although the prime minister Balewa was still more powerful in the operational structure.

Nigeria’s long-standing regional worry, the root of ethnic competitiveness, educational inequality, and economic imbalance, came to the fore in the controversial national census of 1962–63.

In an attempt to repulse ethnic conflict, the Mid-West region was created with the sole aim of dividing the Western region in August 1963; still, the country was subdivided into three large geographic regions, each of which was controlled by the three main ethnics; the Hausa, the Yoruba and the Igbo.

Conflicts were autochthonic, as elites beckoned on tribal enrichment and aggrandizement. In the western region, the government had fallen apart in 1962, and a snub of the federal election of December 1964 brought the country to the brink of crash which resulted to overthrown of federal government by a group of army officers in 1965. The 1966 coup by the northern group succeeded in overthrowing Aguiyi Ironsi and Gen. Yakubu Gowon mounted power.

The political future of Nigeria appeared bright with the victory of Chief Abiola on June 12, 1993 but Babangida's annulment and Abacha’s seizure of power and subsequent rule reversed most of the gains that the country had made since 1960.

On May 29 1999, Olusegun Obasanjo was sworn in and he was reelected in 2003.

The Condition of Nigeria ameliorated somewhat under Olusegun Obasanjo’s civilian administration, but there was still disenchantment within some sections of the country; ethnic conflict erupted, demonstrations were held to protest the government’s oil policies and high fuel prices.

The Yar’adua-led administration was short lived and it is worth noting that his ability to serve the country while deuling with health issues was commendable as Nigerians will never forget his nine-point agenda and his spirit of selfless leadership while addressing valid concerns across board.

On May 6, 2010, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan took over after the demise of Musa Yar’adua, and assumed full office after working in an acting capacity while the president was receiving treatment abroad. He was elected in the subsequent poll having cleared about 59% of the votes among the 19 other challengers and the election was pronounced free and fair.

Among the most-pressing concerns in Jonathan’s first full term as president was the Boko Haram sect, which truncated the security of the nation leading to killings and series of bombings and as well as abduction of Chibok and Dapchi girls.

Prior to 2015 elections, there was a merger between Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and the Congress of Progressive Change (CPC) to form a mega party named All People’s Congress which came with the ‘Change’ mantra. The 2015 election saw Gen. Muhammadu Buahri and his running mate Prof. Yemi Osinbajo emerge as the winner and assume the post of office for the ‘Change’ delivery.

The Buhari-led administration met quite a number of problems; recession, low GDP/high rate of inflation, low foreign reserves, unemployment, insecurity and corruption.

Nigeria came out recession after five consecutive quarters of negative growth beginning in the first quarter of 2016, thanks to result driven policies focusing on the non-oil sector especially the agricultural sector, one of the key area of economy diversification of this administration.

The Nigeria foreign reserve skyrocketed to $45bn from $23bn in 2016 coupled with a drop in inflation (2017 at 18.72% to 11.08% in July 2019) and a slight increase in GDP.

The fight against corruption has been successful which has led to recovery of some national assets.

The Northeast region of Nigeria which was captured by the boko haram has been recovered and the abducted Chibok and Dapchi girls have been released.

The administration has recorded success in the areas of infrastructure; in electricity: by generating improved megawatts and provision of solar power in the rural areas and in some universities; good roads which have led Nigeria people to shower praises on Buhari-led administration and the same thing is being said on rail transportation as scores of projects are ongoing across the nation in the next level.

Another key area worth noting is poverty alleviation and tackling of unemployment, the administration came up with the National Social Investment Programme, the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) and Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) as ways of tackling poverty, human capital development and reducing unemployment.

These social investment programmes are unprecedented in the history of the country, hence huge and immense successes have been recorded, including over 500,000 beneficiaries of N-power. Since its commencement in 2016, millions of Nigerians have benefited from GEEP, while the micro-credit schemes have empowered over 2 million micro-enterprises with collateral-free, interest-free loans to grow their businesses, over 10,167,853 school children are being fed in 1,054 public primary schools across the federation while 872,000 extremely poor households are benefiting from conditional cash transfer of #5,000 across the states of the federation.

The border closure has helped to improve our domestic products, reduced illegal smuggling of food and other items into the country.

The ease of doing business has in turn attracted foreign investors into the favorable business environment for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

59 years down the lane, Nigeria has recorded a resounding and remarkable achievement most especially under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buahri and Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbanjo. The duo has remained resilient towards making Nigeria a better place for her people, even in the face of systemic obstacles that throw up resistance to change.

Our founding fathers would be proud of what have been achieved even though there's wide room for improvement.

Nigeria is closer to the promise land today @ 59.

God bless Nigeria.

PoliticsVice President Osinbajo Praised On Brekete Family Human Rights Radio Today* by Zeemam(op): 4:45pm On Sep 27, 2019
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has been praised for his selfless contribution to Nigerians on one of Nigeria’s leading radio station on Friday.

He was hailed on popular and well celebrated Human Rights Radio 101.1 FM, by Brekete Family presenter, Ordinary Ahmed Isah.

The Ordinary President asked the audience to acknowledge and applaud to the legal contribution of Prof. Osinbajo to the plight of Nigerians.

He noted that the Vice President has contributed free legal services to the Brekete Family. Explaining that Human Rights Radio had over 400 lawyers, Ordinary Ahmed said, ‘’But one of our lawyer’s is trying to reach me, we have 411 lawyers and 18 of them are SANs. It’s not been long that the VP ‘donated’ his chambers to me.

“He said we can refer any case from the Human Rights Radio to the chambers. Let us appreciate the Vice president of Nigeria,” he said and the audience responded with a rapturous clap of hands.

Ordinary Ahmed was speaking on the backdrop of an accident that involved the convoy of the Niger State governor and a citizen.

In view of this, Ordinary Ahmed made it open that there was a representative from the Office of the Vice President in the studio to always take note about their proceeding and the plight of the rights of Nigerians and report back.

He requested that the Assistant Director (Admin) from the Office of the VP ensure that decision is taken on the issue.

Then he also said God would bless the Vice President for always standing with the people, it was then he noted that the VP has even obliged the human rights radio of free services from his law firm.

Nollywood A-class actors Richard Mofe-Damijo and Hilda Dokubo were special guests at the Brekete Family show.

PoliticsGroup Discredits SYC March For Osinbajo by Zeemam(op): 11:28am On Sep 27, 2019
A group of lawyers under the aegis of Concerned Democratic Lawyers (CDL) have discredited the street march purportedly staged by Southwest Youth Congress (SYC) in support of Nigeria Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo in Akure on Thursday.

The group also described the purported march in support of Osinbajo as another gimmick by known highly placed South West politicians to create needless suspicion and disaffection between the Vice President and President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a reaction by the National Coordinator of CDL, Barrister Charles Abudu, he said that the march by SYC was actually sponsored by two South West members of the nation’s cabal in their sole quest to further fan the embers of discontent within the presidency.

Barrister Abudu further said there should have been no need for the street march in Akure to drum any support for the Vice President since the accusations against him is already being handled decently.

He said, ” It is evident that the fifth columnist are prepared to go to any length in their bid to discredit Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

“One wonders why any sponsored faceless group would decide to march on the streets of Akure when the man in the eye of the storm has offered to willingly waive his constitutional immunity just to prove his innocence. It nonetheless smack of suspicion that some enemies of the Vice President are crying more than the bereaved”.

Abudu also expressed disappointment with the 2023 presidential banner of Osinbajo that was displayed by rented members of SYC during their sponsored march in Akure.

“Any discerning person could easily decipher the ill motive of those rooting for Prof Osinbajo to take over from President Buhari in 2023 when the hardworking Vice President has no such ambition. But by the grace of God, all evil plans against Prof. Yemi Osinbajo will be frustrated by the living God”, added Abudu.
