Culture / Re: 6 Interesting Facts You Need To Know About Marriage Process In Hausa Land by zeenab(f): 8:39pm On Aug 25, 2017
Nice thread Op, you tried but paying sadaki does not mean the bride now belongs to groom especially if they are muslims. They fatiha is what signifies the begining of a marital union
wendyberry:
Hausa is a major tribe in northern Nigeria. Although the main language spoken by people living in that part of the country is Hausa, other languages exist. The Hausa culture itself strikes many people as being interesting.

Marriage ceremony in Hausa land is a major highlight that would help many understand the culture and see its uniqueness when compared to the other tribes in Nigeria.

Hausa traditional marriage is based on Islamic rites. When compared to marriages in Igbo and Yoruba land, it is less expensive and dramatic. The processes of Hausa marriage could be broken into the following six processes:

1. Na gani ina

Like most marriages in Nigeria, the first step is seeking the consent of the parents of the bride after the groom or his family has made their choice. This is often referred to as ‘Na gani ina’ which means what I see. The parents of the bride on the other hand starts planning and make moves to investigate the family of the man that has shown interest in their daughter.

The research done by the family of the bride is to find out the key things considered important to them. Most families check the religious beliefs of the groom to be, family background, qualification, moral and ethics.

2. Friendship between the couple

Upon being satisfied with the findings made, the groom is then allowed to see the bride briefly. This is to help them know each other a little.

The family discourages them from having any form of physical contact or courting. If the bride to-be is in agreement with the whole marriage proposal, then the parents of the man make the move to formally ask for the girl’s hand in marriage.

Although, this method may be slightly different for all the tribes in that part of the country, it is presumed to be the most common.

3. Kanya Zance and Gaisuwais

The family of the groom goes to the bride’s family bearing gift items like Kolanut, sweets and other things. The groom’s family also provides what is called Kayan Zance. The items include fabrics, cosmetic products, perfumes, underwears, scarves, shoes and money. When these items are accepted and the negotiation for bride price begins, Gaisuwais is said to have taken place.

4. Rubu Dinar

The bride price is most times set to be low so that the blessings that will be gotten from the union may be more. The minimum payment is referred to as Rubu Dinar; this is a quarter kilogram of gold piece. The groom’s family can however pay more if they are financially buoyant.

5. Sadaki and Sarana

The term Sadaki means dowry, the moment it is paid, the bride belongs to the groom. After this, the wedding date is agreed upon by both families. Setting of the wedding date is called Sarana.

In most cases, the groom’s family makes provision for the house which the couple would live in. However, it is the responsibility of the bride’s family to furnish the house. Special attention is paid to the bride’s kitchen, living room and bedroom.

6. Fatihah, Kunshi and Walimah

The wedding day is called Fatihah; the families of the couple would be present while the bride herself would be made to go through Kunshi. During the wedding Fatihah which comes under the Daurin Aure, vows are being made with prayers made for the couple.

This is more or less a bridal shower which prepares the bride for her new role as a wife. The bride is being taught various things that may be considered helpful in her new home. While at it, various perfumes are being rubbed on the bride while Henna is applied on her hands and feet.

After these events, the wedding reception which is called Walimah takes place. Guests present at the wedding are being entertained with various foods and drinks. At the end of the day, the bride is being led to her husband’s house. This is referred to as Kai Amariya. The bride is being prayed for before she takes her leave.

Family / Re: I Was Punished, Ostracized For 20 Years For Marrying A White Lady: Aroms Aigbehi by zeenab(f): 8:13pm On Aug 25, 2017
Take it easy brother.
MrBrownJay1:

ARRANT BASELESS NONSENSE!!!!
many are marrying women from other countries and you shouldnt take the actions of a few cheap lazy bastards (who buy women) to judge a whole nation!

are you saying that he CANT marry these women OR shouldnt you just accept that he CHOSE to do so because it is an easier path for his life?!
the joke here is to take these people as example while many marry other races, and there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with that.

are these the people upon which we should copy our lives now?! you make very little intelligent sense

if this is what you desire for your life then so be it, but DO NOT believe that we all have the same desires in our lives. let each and everyone decide what is the priorities in their lives!
so many Africans dont give a DAMN about Africa, because they have other more pressing PRIORITIES in their lives, and thats ok. before people can focus on Africa, i'd rather they focus of bettering their own direct lives (food, shelter, job and most importantly HAPPINESS)
its deluded people like you that think that all Africans are live the same lives, therefore should desire the same things.

ALL races are blessed, get you damn facts RIGHT, instead of writing rubbish!

says who?! so because we dont say hi to fukcing strangers abroad AND/OR we decide to marry whoever we feel like it AND/OR we rather focus on our selves than Africa, we suddenly dont know how worth?! you are indeed a comedian!

whoever is in power in any African country (nigeria included) was elected BY THE PEOPLE!!! and as much as you may think your say has more value than others, these elected people are the choice of the citizen... and if they are wrong president then let the same people vote them out of office.

so we are not blessed any longer?! lol

why you always want to compare yourself with white people... you got an inferiority complex while you should look at the white race for what it is....exactly the same as the black race!

so now you want to make us believe that all these crimes are a result of white people, and there was no crimes in ancient Africa?!
bro, get real! were you not the one looking up and using WHITE PEOPLE as the perfect beings at the beginning of this senseless post?! you must be bipolar!

so the past evils within the white race was not present within the black race?! so all these crimes are a product of the white race?! but yet you do know that all races are descendant of the black man, right?! you need to stop writing rubbish!

ask your fukcing god if he told you that it was ok to discriminate and judge people based on their races! you are misinformed and lost!

let ALL Africans get good standards of living 1st before you can arrogantly come here and expect whatever nonsense from these same Africans.

you mean the same tolerance that has you look down and talk shit of other races?!

pls, care to share what other problems you can solve with your magic wand... as if it would be "that" easy to eradicate corruption, arrant nonsense!

you CANT be an hypocrite and take from that white race only what fits your agenda, then turn around and blame that same white race for whatever issues you have in your own life... thats not only foolish, but a waste of life. i suggest you FIRST start to love Africans, regardless of the life they live, instead of thinking that unless they live the life YOU desire for themselves, they are not up to your standard to be proudly called AFRICANS. we are all great, whether if we say HI to others or not, whether we work towards making Africa great or not, whether YOU like it or not!

the ball has ALWAYS been in our hands!

nobody conscientiously chooses to be hungry and poor.

Foreign Affairs / Anger On The Streets As Anti-trump Protests Sweep America ... by zeenab(f): 1:56pm On Nov 10, 2016
Donald Trump's shock victory sparks protests across America.
Anti-Trump activists launched impromptu protests criticizing the racism, sexism and xenophobia that they say the president-elect has made mainstream.
Protesters in US cities take to the streets saying Donald Trump is not their president.
Donald Trump’s unexpected election win ignited protests across the United States, with thousands of demonstrators crowding into streets and surrounding his buildings in major American cities.
The protests – in cities including New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, Oakland, Philadelphia and Seattle – erupted after the Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton, lost the electoral college and presidential race on Tuesday night despite apparently
winning the popular vote.
As US voters and international leaders began to come to terms with a
Republican White House led by the former reality television star, people opposed to Trump on Wednesday took to the streets criticizing the racism, sexism and xenophobia that they say the president-elect has made mainstream.
As night fell in midtown Manhattan, people took over Sixth Avenue and marched by Trump Tower, carrying signs that read “Not my president”, “ She got more votes ” and “Hands off my pussy”, a reference to a leaked recording where Trump bragged that he could sexually assault women because of his fame. A number of arrests were made.
Protesters who had marched all the way from Union Square – some 35 blocks downtown – continued past Trump Tower, with a crowd congregating in front of the president-elect’s building.
“Bleep your tower! Bleep your wall!” people chanted at Trump Tower’s brass-escutcheoned facade, as scores of NYPD officers manned barricades, behind which stood eight department of sanitation trucks filled with dirt.
Nina, an actor living in Manhattan, told the Guardian that the protest felt less like a call-to-arms than a vigil for the promise of America.
“I’m distraught at the decision,” said Nina, who declined to share her surname for professional reasons. “He’s a horrible, horrible man, not the leader of the America I live in. Or the America I thought I lived in.”
Thousands also took to the streets in
Chicago, a Democratic city that overwhelmingly supported Clinton according to initial polls.
Gathering for what activists called an “emergency Trump protest”, demonstrators virtually shut down the city during rush hour traffic as they shouted: “Trump is not my president.”
“I’m incredibly upset. I’m angry,” said Parker Smith as she held a sign stating “My Body, My Choice” outside the president-elect’s Chicago hotel tower. “This has been just a lot to deal with and I’m very worried for the next four years.”
While Chicago has gained international attention for these kinds of demonstrations in recent years – tied to the Black Lives Matter movement against police violence – Wednesday’s protests drew a diverse group of voters united in their anger at Trump.
Protesters stood their ground for hours outside the luxury building, chanting about issues including black lives, LGBT rights and women’s health.
“This is the America I identify with,” said protester Nicole Endenova, a young woman of color, as she stared at the crowds.
Some protesters waved a Mexican flag outside the tower while screaming “Bleep your wall”, referring to Trump’s controversial plan for a border barrier.
As helicopters followed the march from above, while police shielded Trump Tower, some protesters shouted, “We want a president, not a fucking racist!”
Several larger demonstrations throughout the day were led by high school and college students, including a massive walkout at a high school in Berkeley, California.
Protests first launched early on Wednesday morning on the west coast after Trump told his supporters in New York City that Clinton had called him to concede.
“People are fucking bummed. People are disgusted,” said Eddie Gutierrez, 33, who joined late-night protests in Oakland, California. “They’ve lost faith in the fucking system.”
Protests also launched in Pennsylvania, Arizona, Oregon and other states in regions throughout the US.
By evening on the west coast large rallies began to emerge in Seattle and
Oakland , organized under the hashtag
#NotMyPresident .
In Seattle, city councilwoman Kshama Sawant, a socialist politician and avid
Bernie Sanders supporter during the presidential primaries, told a crowd of activists on Wednesday night that people should plan to disrupt Trump’s inauguration in January.
“We are going to shut it down,” she said.
Are you taking part in the anti-Trump protests?
