YourHealthlabs: The only solution bedeviling our health sector has only one solution.

Our physicians should stop believing that the promotion of other health professionals is a stain on their ward coats. Policallly they are the most powerful in the health sector.
-They take up 99% of sits on the Board of management of every public hospitals.
-They earn the fattest pay, starting from Medical interns who earn more than even experienced Pharmacists and Scientists.
-Has anyone ever seen the the promotion list of our public hospitals--80% are usually physicians, even though they consistute just about 10% of the entire health workforce.
--and so many other advantages they have over others.

They don't have to lose this merits to allow others grow. What JOHESU is saying is--give our professionals some breathing space,if you want to lead carry everyone along, don't go asking for hazard allowance and benefits for NMA, at the same time fighting against same for nurses, scientists and cleaners. They also want to learn and grow in their respective fields. How does this affect the importance of a physician?

Na I disagree with ur solution . The BEST solution would be to PRIVATIZE ALL GOVT HOSPITALS. Let's see if afterwards people would not sit tight and do their job. After all,the private owners would have to determine while downsizing workforce if they indeed need a consultant nurse in the hospital or in a legal department or if they would need a consultant pharmacist in the hospital or rather in the old people"s home

Amhappy: Good move by FG but not so quick. First of all let NMA and JOHESU have their own national conference for six weeks and work out a standard operating procedure for the health sector. If after six weeks they fail to agree,the organisations should be disolved qed. The health sector doesnt not generate any revenue for Nigerian economy even when Nigeria have some of the best doctors in the world. Its time for change.

u can't dissolve NMA it"s an homogenous body. But Ofcourse u can dissolve JOHESU Into it's constituents viz a viz it's union. Let's know who is fighting for what amongst them.

PerfectFortune: It is only in Nigeria that the Drs want to head all aspects of the medical profession but want to remain unprofessional, arrogant and complete chEats.

They want All nurses to have Bsc cos that is the minimum in the USA currently (without a pay rise and when they get their Phd they should not be addressed as Drs of Nursing and when they become Profs should still not be consultants) . Pharm D should not be approved (as it is currently in the USA) cos it will give the Pharmacists the privilege of being addressed as Drs which will inturn lead to them becoming a consultant and as such can head a medical institution which is d practise in the USA currently.

They are less concerned about the patients, self centered, arrogant and completely undertrained (unprofessional), harbalists are better than some of them but want to remain at the top.

as long as it's a "medical profession" yes doctors should head it( am assuming u understand d Difference between a medical and a health profession) your 2nd paragraph shows that u REALY don't understand d workings of an HOSPITAL . for instance what's d correlation between bein a professor and bein a consultant?? U obviously do not know that bein a professor of say medicine is purely academic that doesn't confer on u the status of a consultant in an hospital cos that's purely clinical. As for pharm D in d USA ,(I live in Miami )u also wrong cos majority of d university awards Bpharm (not pharm D) has 1st degree.Very few institution still offer 6 year accelerated Pharm.D. programs .It is however controversial even in the USA whether such period is adequate to fulfill undergraduate, as well as doctorate requirements.and dis controversy is well documented in America till date. It may also interest u to know that it was the Collaboration of the Dean of pharmacy in nigerian universities that effectively kicked against d pharm D idea cos they didn't see how it was gona improve d pharmaceutical proffesion. A PHD in pharmacy is available in nigerian universities ., so it wasn't NMA that cancelled pharm D!

YourHealthlabs: We have post-graduate colleges of Medical lab Science and Postgraduate Institutes of Biomedical Science in U.K and advanced countries. Even the Americans offer Doctor of clinical lab science as a basic degree.

Why do these allopathic guys think it's their duty to keep every person from acquiring professional knowlege?. Why are these group of people savagely even to extent of asking their members to hide their payslips from their spouses as they fear it might fall into JOHESU hands?

If these allo-doctors have their way they will ban every other Nigerian from "speaking good grammar" or even wearing good suits and then happily call them illiterates. When their colleague abroad even encourage and even donate towards the educational development of other health professionals.

Well the truth is-I have never seen anywhere savagery toppled Knowlege. Their efforts to limit other professionals and keep them in perpetual slavery in the health sector is comparable to 17th century slavery. It cannot stand the test of time.

. @ "yourhealthlab" in as much as the idea that whenever any issue comes up in Nigeria we like to cite d developed nations as an example; which is something that nauseates me to say the least. But be that as it may, could u pls supply evry1 on this forum the link to where on the surface of this earth there is a POSTGRADUATE COLLEGE OF med lab scientist ? I do not mean med lab institute where u can get an MSC thesame way u could get an msc in Nigerian universities .where is a POST graduate COLLEGE of med lab scientist?
