Sports / Amalaha Fails B Sample, Faces Hearing by Zeusd3(m): 4:20pm On Aug 01, 2014
Glasgow - Nigerian teenage weightlifter Chika
Amalaha faces a hearing before the
Commonwealth Games Federation on Friday
over her failed drugs test.
Amalaha, whose A sample failed a control
after claiming gold in the women's 53kg
category on July 25, also produced a positive
B sample.
The tests revealed traces of diuretics and
masking agents.
CGF chief executive Mike Hooper said the
follow-up examination backed up the initial
finding of the doping control that Amalaha
went through after her victory in the 52kg
class at the Clyde Auditorium seven days ago.
Hooper said on Friday: "I can report that the
analysis on the Nigerian weightlifting Chika
Amalaha's B sample has been completed, and
this has confirmed the analysis and finding
of the A result."
Amalaha snatched a best of 85kg before
managing 111kg in the clean and jerk for a
total of 196kg, to become the youngest
Commonwealth weightlifter gold medallist.

Politics / Government Denies Chibok Girls Are Female Bombers by Zeusd3(m): 3:59pm On Jul 31, 2014
Abuja - The federal government has
debunked claims that the abducted Chibok
school girls are responsible for the recent
suicide bombings in the north, Vanguard
reports
The co-ordinator of National Information
Centre, Mike Omeri, during a routine
security briefing, alongside representatives of
security forces in Abuja, said that the Chibok
girls are not being used as suicide bombers
in Kano.
Former Education minister, and co-
coordinator of the Bring Back Our Girls
campaign, Professor Oby Ezekwesili, had
expressed worry that the abducted girls
might be used by the terrorists for suicide
bombings considering the inability of the
government to rescue them.

Family / Strict Parenting: Is It The Best Way To Raise A Child by Zeusd3(m): 5:27pm On Jul 22, 2014
Growing up was so much fun that i wish to re-live every moment. My friend (name withdrawn), had this strict parents that even we his friends and class mate stay clear of his house to prevent him being beaten like hell... He and his siblings would be beaten with objects in site. When even he is in our mist we are in red alert. Our gathering is thrown into chaos at the site of his parent, with everyone running for cover so that my man will not be sited. Some will say it was as a result of we being a bad company and that i don't believe, my parents told me to stay clear of him due to his level of badness.

With that in mind i was wondering do parent need to go to that extent of making their children quake at their site to train their child...?

Will strict parenting make a good child...?

How would children glow with such parent knowing they would not want less than what they ask of their children...?

Politics / Bayelsa Insecurity Mars Investment Forum As Pirates Kill 2 by Zeusd3(m): 5:49pm On Jul 21, 2014
An investment forum organized by Governor
Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State hit a snag on
Friday when news filtered into the state
capital, Yenagoa, that pirates had killed two
persons, including an aide to a former state
commissioner.
The disturbing news came as the participants
at the Bayelsa Investment and Economic
Forum, held in Yenagoa, were preparing to
leave to various destinations.
Details of the attack said armed men
suspected to be sea pirates attacked a
passenger boat along the Ogbia-Nembe
waterways, killing two persons, including
Awotimigha Iyabi, an aide to a former
Commissioner of Information in Bayelsa,
Nathan Egba. The identity of the second victim
of the attack could not be immediately
ascertained. Mr. Iyabi was in his forties, said
a family source.
Our sources said Alfred Watson Belemote, a
politician and state assembly aspirant, his
mobile police escort, and the driver of the
attacked boat were lucky to escape death in
the attack.
Mr. Dickson’s administration had used bogus
claims and assurances that the state was safe
and secure to lure potential investors to the
forum, but the pirate attacks exposed the
falsehood of the government’s rosy depiction
of the state, one of the participants in the
forum told our correspondent.
Even though Bayelsa is one of the most
indebted states in Nigeria, according to
figures prepared by the Debt Management
Office, Governor Dickson earlier this month
asked the state legislature to empower him to
seek a N40 billion loan for an airport project
that is being financed substantially by the
federal government. The controversial loan is
widely unpopular, but one opponent in the
legislature told SaharaReporters that
lawmakers were afraid to openly defy Mr.
Dickson. “We are going to end up accruing
more debt that we don’t have the money to
pay only because a lot of the honorable
members are afraid to stand up and tell the
governor the truth to his face,” said the
source.
Meanwhile, survivors of the pirate attack
said six gunmen attacked the speedboat
conveying the deceased and four others from
Nembe area of Bayelsa. They added that the
gunmen were operating along the waterway,
dispossessing boat passengers of cash and
valuables.
“Our boat ran into the robbery operation and
we were trapped by gunshots from the
gunmen,” said one survivor.
One survivor claimed that the pirates must
have laid ambush for the ex-political aide. “I
heard the pirates shout, ‘He is not here, he is
in the second boat,’” he said, adding that it
indicated an assassination motive.
Our sources said the gunmen had stopped one
of the two speedboats in the convoy of the
politician, adding that the firepower from
the policeman on the boat was not able to
deter the six pirates’ operation.
Nathan Egba, Bayelsa’s former Commissioner
for Information and Orientation, confirmed
the tragic incident. Mr. Egba, who led friends
of the deceased on a condolence visit to the
family of his former aide, expressed shock at
the attack and described the deceased as a
“non-violent and gentle man.”
Alex Akhigbe, a spokesman of the Bayelsa
police command, said that the police had
been notified about the attack, but added that
details of the pirate attack were not yet
ready.

Politics / Boko Haram Abducts Politician's Wife And Two Children In Borno State by Zeusd3(m): 2:16pm On Jul 21, 2014
Suspected members of Boko Haram have
kidnapped the wife and two children of Alhaji
Zaraye Mala Sheriff, a Councillor in Borno
state who is reported to be a cousin of
former Borno state, governor, Ali Modu
Sheriff.
A source told Daily Trust that the men
stormed the Ngala town residence of the
politician in the early hours of Friday July
18th.
"The insurgents stormed the house of
the councillor around 12:30am on
Friday and asked the wife about her
husband. They also asked her for the
money he kept at home but she kept
quiet. Luckily enough, Zaraye was at the
other side of the house and when he
heard the conversation, he fled,” a
source from Ngala said.
He said angered by her silence and the
absence of their target, the sect members
took her and her two children away.
Continue...
"Up till now, nothing has been heard of
the woman and her kids. We have not
heard anything about the two
businessmen either,” he said.
Two other politicians, Alhaji Annur
Mohammed and Liman Alhaji Hussaini were
also reportedly kidnapped by the sect men.
Meanwhile there are reports that Maiduguri
metropolis and its environs have been
without power in the last three weeks
following the destruction of electricity
installations around Damboa town, 85
kilometers away from the state capital.
A senior official of the utility firm supplying
the state with power, the Yola Electricity
Distribution Company (YEDC) said the attack
by Boko Haram members in the last three
weeks around Damboa caused “huge damage”
to their 33KVA installations.
“The problem is aggravated by the security
situation around Damboa which makes it
difficult for our men to effect repairs. The
truth is that it will take time before
electricity would be restored in Maiduguri
and environs,” he said.

A soccer kit (for the uninitiated, the wee
British term for a soccer uniform) creates
the identity of the team. The home kit is
iconic, centered around a core club color or
two, and gives fans a way to be recognized
as fans of a particular team instantly.
The away and third kits vary from year to
year – it gives designers a landscape for
play, clubs a yearly chance to change looks
(and sell jerseys), and in some
unintentionally entertaining instances, an
occasion to celebrate Mistakes That Were
Made in lists like this. Though, as we’ll see,
it’s easy for designers to screw up home kits
as well—especially in the early ‘90s, the
Golden Age of Terrible Kits.

Sports / Re: The 10 Best Goals Of The 2014 FIFA World Cup by Zeusd3(m): 1:36pm On Jul 18, 2014
4. United States’s Jermaine Jones vs.
Portugal

Speaking of great World Cups, 32-year old
Jermaine Jones’s presence in the defensive
midfield was key to the U.S. advancing past
Group G. But his lone goal of the
tournament stole the show from his great
defense.

Jones received a Portugal clearance from a
corner kick well outside the box, gained
space from Nani to the right and unleashed
a strike into the far corner that left keeper
Beto frozen in his tracks. The equalizer
came in the 64th minute.
From there, the United States would
eventually take the lead only to see
Silvestre Varela header knot things back up
at the death. But nonetheless, Jones’s strike
was one of the tournament’s best.

3. Colombia’s James Rodriguez vs.
Uruguay

Those unfamiliar with James Rodriguez
before the tournament, will be well-
acquainted with him going forward. With
star striker Ramadel Falcao missing the
tournament due to injury, the 23-year old
Rodriguez more than filled the goalscoring
void, scoring at least once in each of
Colombia’s matches.

After a one goal, two assist outing against
Japan (in just 45 minutes of action no less),
Rodriguez shined brightest against Uruguay
in the knockout stage. Upon receiving a Teo
Gutierrez header, Rodriguez chested the
pass, turned, and fired a left-footed volley
over Muslera’s hand, off the crossbar and
into goal. All this, with Uruguayan
defenders closing in.

2. Australia’s Tim Cahill vs. Netherlands

It’s unlikely that anyone outside of
Melbourne gave Australia a chance to beat
the Netherlands in group play. And while
they didn’t, they put up one hell of a fight.

Just a minute after Arjen Robben opened the
scoring, Australia’s Ryan McGowan sent a
long ball toward Tim Cahill who couldn’t
have hit it any better. The volley beat the
outstretched foot of Stefan de Vrij and the
arms of Jasper Cillessen and went in off the
crossbar. Despite the 3-2 loss, it was
another on the mantle for Australia’s all-
time leading scorer.

1. Netherlands’s Robin Van Persie vs.
Spain

After a month of World Cup action, the goal
of the tournament came on the second day.
Robin Van Persie received a long ball from
Daley Blind at the edge of the box and
delivered a sublime header past Spanish
keeper Iker Casillas. Which earn him the name "the flying dutch man"

This goal had everything you look for in a
great goal: it was a lunging headed effort
from 18 yards out that seemed to sit on the
Dutchman’s head for a moment before
being flicked into goal. It also came just
before half while down 1-0. Like Cahill’s
goal, it had to be struck just right in order
to go in, and Van Persie did just that. Plus,
it inspired a four-goal outburst in the
second half for his side against the
defending World Cup champions.
