Nigeria governors have expressed worry
over the high exchange rate of Naira to
other foreign currencies.
They have therefore said this and other
issues would be discussed with President
Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja on
Thursday.
This was one of the resolutions arrived at
by the governors after their meeting in
Abuja on Wednesday night.
The meeting, which ended in the early
hours of Thursday, was attended by
majority of the governors.
Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum,
who is also the Governor of Zamafara
State, Alhaji Abdullaziz Yari, read the
communique of the meeting to
journalists.
It was gathered that Naira is being
exchanged for about 243 to a dollar at
parallel market.
Yari said, “We are going to discuss with
Mr. President to seek lasting solutions to
the worsening macroeconomic challenges
confronting the nation, especially on
foreign exchange stability.
“The forum pledges to work with Mr.
President to ensure coherent policy
actions that will create a clear policy
direction for the country and stimulate
domestic production.”He also said the
forum discussed health issues and that
the governors pledged to cooperate with
the Federal Government to ensure that
the National Health Act is operational.”
According to him, “Sequel to presentation
made by the Country Representative of
the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation,
the forum agreed to aggressively support
the total eradication of polio in the
country.”
The NGF chairman denied the insinuations
in some quarters that the money given to
the states was meant to bail them out of
their financial crisis.
Rather, he said what was shared was
money from the Nigeria Liquefied Natural
Gas Company Limited and Federation
Accounts Allocation Committee, which, he
said, were legitimate earnings for the
three tiers of the government.
The governor said, “It is also to inform our
brothers in the media that yet the federal
government has not given any bailout to
any of the states.
“What had been shared last time was
monies from NLNG and FAAC and as we
have been saying, we have not been
looking for bailout, instead, we have been
looking for all monies that are in the
coffers of the federation account, most
especially we are talking about some of
the monies that are hung around the
coffers of government to be brought
together for the purpose of sharing.”.. so Governors dey worry |

Dr. Jubril Sulaiman who lead the Nigerian medical team to this year's Hajj, Thur pilgrims that participated in the exercise this year. The disclosure was made in Makkah at theMisfalah 2 clinic for Nigeria during the inspection of facilities by the Federal Government delegation led by the Amirul Hajj and Oba of Lagos, Oba Ridwanu Akiolu.Dr. Sulaiman while briefing Amirul Hajj of what the centre has been doing from the beginning of the Hajj exercises till date, said, "Compare to previous years, we recorded lower number of death this year.As of present, we have recorded 19 deaths and seven psychiatric cases. This islargely due to anxiety and stress that come with Hajj which we have been able to manage and the psychiatric cases are normal now."We recorded more female death than male with 11 female and 8 male. Lagos and Sokoto recorded 3 death cases each due to cancer, heart problems, leukemia, diabetes etc with about 64 per cent of them being above 50 years of age," Sulaiman explained. He however added that 70 percent of the death occured in Makkah while the remaining happened in Madinah. As at the time of filing this report, Sulaiman said there are 41 Nigerians presently under observation in various hospitals in the Kingdom while 12 cases have been referred to Saudi Hospital.Dr. Sulaiman noted that his team went round hospitals in Saudi and found six Nigerians in two hospitals and that their condition is stable.Speaking also on Ebola outbreak, Sulaiman said no Nigerian pilgrim shows any sign of Ebola since the beginning of the exercise saying most cases of death occured more among the international pilgrims. In his response, the Amirul Hajj commended the medical team for the tracking, monitoring and prompt response to the Nigerian pilgrims. He also commended the federal government for its support for the Hajj operations. The delegation also visited pilgrims from Lagos, Kebbi, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and states in South South and South East geo-political zones of Nigeria. The message of Oba of Lagos during the visits is for pilgrims to remain law abiding and patient as the airlifting schedule for returnjourney will be executed as announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON). http://ipaidabribenaija.com/news/item/111492-nigeria-records-19-mortality-7-mental-cases-in-2014-hajj-exercise |
