Family / Police Stray Bullet Killsnine-year-old In Lagos by zeyheed(m): 4:37am On Jun 15, 2013 |
A policeman on duty has allegedly shot and killed a nine-year-old boy, Timileyin Ebun, in Mile 12 area of Lagos State. Our correspondent learnt that the incident occurred while a team of policemen was attempting to arrest a commercial bus driver around 11 pm on Thursday. According to the spokesperson for the family, Mr. Francis Ogunbowale, the deceased was in a Nissan Pathfinder with his family members when the incident occurred. Ogunbowale told Saturday PUNCH that the family had gone to pick up one of their sons, Babajide, at the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Ikeja and were on their way home at Ikorodu when the tragic incident occurred. Ogunbowale said, "Babajide schools in Canada. The family had gone to pick him up from the airport but on their way home, Timileyin was shot and killed. "The matter has been reported and we have seen the Commissioner of Police." Police sources told our correspondent that the policeman had been arrested and transferred to the Police X Squad. A policeman, who preferred not to be named, said, "Around 11 pm on Thursday, one Ebun Olusegun went to Ketu Police Division with his dead son. "He said he was coming from the airport in his vehicle with registration number, HD 844 EKY but on getting to Kosofe Bus Stop around the Mile 12 Market, a bullet killed his son sitting at the back seat. "The policemen were brought to the station and one Sergeant Alowonle Razaq, with force number 203693, was identified as the shooter. He has been arrested investigations are ongoing." The source said preliminary investigation revealed that the policeman fired two shots while trying to disperse hoodlums who were preventing the arrest of their colleague. The deceased's mother, who is said to be a senior employee of LASACO Assurance Ltd., could not be reached as her telephone remained switched off as at press time. Also, the spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, did not answer calls made to her telephone. |

Phones / Bb Q10 by zeyheed(m): 8:11pm On Jun 07, 2013 |
If there’s one complaint Blackberry users usually have, it’s the battery life. No matter how smart a phone is, there isn’t much use for it when the battery is dead. For Blackberry lovers who do not have constant electricity, or heavy phone users on the field, the Blackberry Q10 just might be the answer. A longer battery life, combined with the operating system of the Z10, and the aesthetics of the Bold 9900 is the BB Q10 in a nutshell. The swipe-driven BB10 OS provides plenty of new, exciting ways of interacting with the device, while keyboard shortcuts and Instant Actions will add extra speed and flexibility. Some of the key features include: a Four-row hardware QWERTY keyboard, similar to that of the BB Torch; 3.1 inches 16M-colour 720p Super AMOLED capacitive touch screen slightly bigger than that of the Bold 9900; BlackBerry 10.1 Operating System; Office document editor; BlackBerry Hub which is a unified inbox of all your communication and social networking accounts, the BBM with video chat and screen sharing; Impressively good 8 MP auto-focus camera with face detection and Time Shift; LED flash Full HD (1080p) video recording at 30fps; 720p on the front-facing camera; 2MP front facing camera; 16GB of storage, microSD card slot; Bluetooth 4.0 etc. The Q10 shares plenty of design language with the keyboard-free Z10. Its 119.6 x 66.8mm dimensions actually slot in somewhere between the Z10 and the 9900. The Q10’s 10.35mm thickness is one full millimeter thicker than the Z10 that came before and just fractionally thinner than the 9900. Powering the device is the same 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8960 dual- core CPU with 2GB of RAM. The phone also offers 16GB of internal storage, with microSD expansion on tap. Call quality was on-par with the Z10. However, the move to physical keys defeats some of the most compelling aspects of BlackBerry 10’s predictive virtual keyboard, namely the ability to flick upward on individual letters to auto-complete words and the ability to swipe from right to left to delete a whole word. There is a predictive mode you can enable on the Q10, which simply places a row of suggestions along the bottom of the display as you type. Reaching up to it and then back to the keyboard could be a bit clumsy however. Also, it is easier to enter text on the virtual keys of the Z10 than the physical ones of the Q10. On the bright side, getting to special characters is far less cumbersome since they’re all right there on the keys. The Q10 will also do just fine lasting through a day of usage, as in a recent testing carried out the phone managed nine hours and 35 minutes total. That’s an hour and 20 minutes more than the Z10,putting it more or less on-par with the LTE Samsung Galaxy S III. Experts also revealed that the phone easily got through a full day of typically heavy use without reaching for the charger. Whether this could just be the battery saving paradise BB users have been longing for, only time will tell. |
