IGBINEDION University, Okada, Edo State holds its 13th convocation ceremony tomorrow where some eminent Nigerians, including Dr. Godfrey Bawa shitgurum, Alhaji Musbahu Bashir and Colonel Paul Osakapamwan Ogbebor (rtd) are to be honoured with the institution’s honorary doctorate.
Briefing journalists, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Eghosa Osaghae, said of the 570 graduands, 26 made First Class, 237 got Second Class Upper, 214 bagged Second Class Lower while eight settled for Third Class.
While decrying the falling standard of education in the country which he pinned at the doorsteps of public institutions, he noted that: “It was when private universities came on board in this country, that the university sector stabilised. It was as a result of the emergence of private university that our university calendar became stable. Our universities will remain open as against the incessant strike action that characterised public institutions and there will be quality in our education system in the universities.” Osaghae added that the proliferation of private higher institutions of learning had helped to reposition the educational system, particularly spurring the public-owned institutions to become focused and result-oriented.
Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe, a PDP senator representing Abia South in the senate today asked that the House summon President Buhari who doubles as the Minister of Petroleum resources to come and explain why there's fuel scarcity in the country right now.
Abaribe said that since Buhari is the Minister in charge of Nigeria's Petroleum resources, he should be made to answer all questions bothering on that sector. President Buhari and the state Minister for Petroleum resources Ibe Kachiukwu are currently in Iran attending the 3rd Gas Exporting Countries' Forum (GECF). They are however expected back to the country today November 24th.
