acekid109: Get in Nigeria if possible. I think If you have over 24 months driving experience in Nigeria, you can skip the waiting time for road test in Ontario.
If not, you'll start afresh, and it will take at least 8 months (if you go to a driving school, if not it's 1 year) before you can attempt road test in Ontario. You can check for more information on drivetest ca. omo, na driving school i wan start this week o, so that won't help at all? I'll still not skip the wait time? I'm looking at the link, thanks |

Please I want to clarify regarding driving and driver's license.
Will you advise me to get a drivers licence here in Nigeria before coming over?
Is there any advantage to that, or just learn the driving and get a licence when I land ontario? |

Hi Guys,
Planning to land Ontario next month as a PR, I've gone through this thread trying to get tips for easier settlement but its all so overwhelming, different people saying different things on same topic, I don't know if its just me. Can someone who has landed already give us kind of like a checklist of what to do immediately you land, maybe like a step by step guide or something.
Like once you land, get your SIN number, what to do if you do not yet have a permanent address, what to look out for when house hunting, opening a bank account, preferred bank and best type of account etc.. any other stuff we need to do. (I know its subjective, but it can give us a generic overview)
Yes I read page 1, but that was since 2019 or so, im sure there maybe better/more efficient ways to do stuff. It's just so overwhelming. Can someone help me with a recent checklist all in one place or maybe I can pm you and you can guide me. Thr information is just scattered. I know we learn as we stay longer, but good information can avoid delays for newbies.
BTW, haven't seen a recent landing gist for a while now. |

amnotapervert: Your Nigerian bank (preferably a USD account) knows how to do wire transfers.
In my case, I had trusted family in Canada, so I was able to send money from Nigeria to Canada before I entered the country.
But I carried half in cash. I can’t send my CV, sorry.
I already have a lot of opps on Nairaland.
I paid someone to prepare my résumé in 2019, and that’s the same format I’ve been using. I’ve only updated it as I changed jobs over the years. i have a Nigerian USD account, im assuming this means a domicillary account. My question is when/how to do the wire transfer? I can't do it before I travel as I will not have a Canadian bank account yet, you can't use bank apps to do cross border transfers. If I land Canada, how do I do the wire transfer from my dom account while I'm in Canada and have opened a bank account Thanks chief |

amnotapervert: (1) There’s no single perfect way most people use a mix of these: Bank wire transfer (most straightforward), Fintech options (smaller amounts) I personally use lemFi https://lemfi.com/en-ca/ and Carrying cash You can carry up to CAD 10,000 (or equivalent)
(2) Canada has Very limited, educational grants (not loans) but some options exist its best you Contact the financial aid office of the MBA program directly that’s where real money comes from.
(3) Legit apartment rental platforms (beyond FB & Kijiji) Use : Realtor.ca (very legit, agent listed), Zumper, Rentals.ca, Viewit.ca, PadMapper, Condos.ca (for condos) please Avoid paying deposits before viewing
(4) I personally use Indeed.ca and LinkedIn for Job search it will take you to the companies page to apply and as for CV You will ask a friend that already has a job to use their own and edit with your exprience I could have shared mine but I have a lot of Opps on this platform hahahahah Thanks chief, for the bank wire transfer, please how is it done? I can't do it before I travel since I won't even have a Canadian bank account by then, so how do it do it from Canada when I land? I'll also look at LemFi Please your CV share to my email chief, please. You can remove your personal information, Google searches are not helpful. |

Hi guys, please I need responses to some questions.
1. I'm moving to Canada next month, how do I move my funds in my Nigerian account to start life over there?
2. Also, People in Canada, (Ontario especially) are there any educational grants (not loans) to support an MBA student who is a permanent resident (I know about OSAP already)
3. Apart from FB marketplace and Kijiji, where can I find legit apartments for rent
4. Best job sites and Canadian CV template
Please I'm doing my own research, but I also like getting insights from people on ground |

fOFT: We can exchange knowledge if you work in STEM. So far, I've written four (4) reference letters (recommendation letters) I'm working on my letter and expect to finish it by this time next week (31/03/2023).)
I will equally send to two of my friends to help double-check. (so as to implement their feeback) Finally, I will submit everything to my personal lawyer to double-check before sending to USCIS in April. Hopefully, I'll be in the United States by January 1, 2024. Hi, Please were you approved? Can you share sample of your recommendation letters? |

Efetobore1980: @Zinachidi.
With all honesty. I have seen 5 applicants from last week up till now with their normal f1 visa stampings as normal as before. Nothing change. I have posted it sevaral time that the policy is not going to be easy to be enacted on international students.
■ On B1/B2, 2 ladies got their normal 5 years last week Tuesday (July 15th, 2025). I saw it with my eyes.
■● Normally it can take the embassy 2 months in order to change visa stamps, seals, and all official visa ingredients (permit my grammar) that has formally carried the 5-years (on B1/B2) visa authorization. Hence, people might still be getting the 5 years until they are fully ready for the 3 - months enactment. Practically, they cannot start issuing 3-months overnight otherwise they will have to delay visa issuance. 👍 Thanks chief |
