Nation’s power generation fell by over 1,000 megawatts as four power plants were down on Saturday, bringing the total number to 10.The Powersector recorded a total system collapse on Friday, September 16, 2016, the 17th time this year, industrydata obtained by PUNCH on Sunday revealed.The total power generation stood at 2,555.7MW as of 6amon Saturday, down from 3,596.2MW the previous day, worsening the outage being experienced by households and businesses across the country.Electricity from the nation’s biggest power station, Egbin, located in Lagos, hit a record low of 246MW on Saturday from 425MW on Friday, while output from the Shiroro Power Station in Niger State, one ofthe nation’s hydro power plants, hit a high of 600MW.The plants that were shut down after the collapse included Olorunsogo I and Olorunsogo II in Ogun State; Omotosho II in Ondo State; and Ihovbor located in Edo State, with installed capacities of 294MW, 500MW, 500MW and 225MW respectively.Recall that the Transmission Company of Nigeria onFebruary 2, 2016 announced that the nation had achieved its peak generation of 5,074.70MW while plunged to a record low of 1,400MW on May 17.

Ondo State Police Command on Thursday, August 25, rescued a 4-year-old girl who was caged in Akure. The girl, a pupil of Temiloluwa Nursery and Primary school, Imafon, Akure North Local Government Area, was rescued by the personnel attached to the Juvenile Welfare Centre (JVC) of the command.Ondo State Police Commissioner, Hilda Ibifuro-Harrison, who confirmed the arrest to journalists from her office in Akure, said the culprit identified as Mary Matthew, a foster parent of the victim. She stated that Mrs. Matthew and her husband alleged that the young girl was possessed."On receipt of the information, personnel attached toJuvenile Welfare Centre (JVC) visited the scene and met the girl in the cage as reported. She was immediately rescued and taken to the Police Clinic for proper medical attention. The culprit was paraded at the Ondo State Police Headquarters Command on Igbatoro road in Akure," Ms Ibifuro-Harrison said.Narrating how she was severely abused by her foster parents, the victim said she made several failed attempts to run away because she was afraid of being killed."This wicked woman always tied me on my hands and forced me inside the cage while she flogged me with a horse whip every day," the little girl said.Mrs Matthew, a local farmer from Enugu State denied mistreating the little girl, accused her of being a witch and claimed to have taken care of the girl since the death of the girl’s biological parents."I didn't put her in any cage. The place I locked her ismy small shop and I always put her in the place anytime am going to the farm for cultivation," she claimed.The Police said the culprit will be charged to the court along with her husband after investigation.

The young girl was found murdered in her family's apartment in New Mexico by police officers on the date she was to celebrate her 10th birthday.Details of what Gov. Susana Martinez and law enforcement officials described as an unspeakable crime emerged Thursday in a criminal complaint made public and filed against the girl's mother, her boyfriend and his cousin. The three were arrested late Wednesday night.Police say the girl, identified Thursday afternoon as Victoria Martens, was injected with methamphetamine, sexually assaulted, strangled and stabbed before being dismembered.Early Wednesday morning, police received a call about a disturbance inside a unit at the Arroyo VillasApartment Complex on Irving Boulevard. Officers who responded to the address came upon a gruesome crime scene in the bathroom, said Albuquerque Police Chief Gorden Eden.'This is a horrific tragedy for our community,' Eden told reporters. 'I want to assure the public that we will pursue justice and we will make sure that we exhaust every resource into this investigation.'The girl's mother, 35-year-old Michelle Martens, her 31-year-old boyfriend, Fabian Gonzales, and his 31-year-old cousin, Jessica Kelley, face charges of child abuse resulting in death, kidnapping and tampering with evidence.Gonzales and Kelley have also been charged with criminal sexual penetration of a minor.According to the criminal complaint, Martens made a confession, telling police Gonzales drugged the girlso he could 'calm her down' and have sex with her. She said Kelley held her hand over the child's mouthand she stabbed the girl in the stomach after Gonzales had choked her.The complaint also states that the mother, who also has a younger son, told investigators that Gonzales and Kelley dismembered Victoria.One of the police officers who arrived at the apartment found the girl's body in a bathroom, rolledup in a blanket that had been set on fire. The officer put it out.Some of her remains were found in a plastic bag in ahamper near the kitchen, reported The Albuquerque Journal, citing court records.

Basket ball legend Michael Jordan has donated $5 million to the National Museum of African American History and Culture,museum officials announced Monday.The monetary gift is the largest from a sports figure/personality to the museum. It pushes private donations to the museum to $278 million.
