The only way to properly fund the police is to change the way our economy is run, and to widen the tax base.

Nigerian leaders 40 years ago, and Nigerian leaders today do not want to do that, as that means making hard choices, actually fighting corruption , both of which are unpopular.

Fighting corruption does not mean arresting the big men, it also means arresting the small petty corrupt little men and women. That is why Nigerians do not really like fighting corruption

And changing the economy means a generation where most of the population works long and hard making industrial products for export. No one wants that, everyone wants to live well. But that is how your china and south korea and even Japan did that, One to three generations did the 3 d's work to make those countries prosperous and industrial...and able to fund evenryting.

And widening the tax base is also very unpopular.

As a result we don't have the money to fund the police, and to fund things like the supporting structures for a good police force...froensices, ctv, records, traning, etc.

That is why 40 years since this brave man spoke up, nothing has changed

But yet in that 40 years the cost of governance increase on yearly basis. Councilors and local government chairmen are gifted luxury cars and in some cases jeep for doing nothing. And that's just on the lowest level compared to what your state governor, either incumbent or past get paid from tax payers money and "babaly"(pun intended) the federal level where the day light robbery is hugh and alarming. Our tax system may not be progressive as we want but it's never retrogressive. Every common man pay tax indirectly passed on my manufacturer or suppliers to them, and not to talk of the PAYE system we all know about. The government has to do more than what's we currently have or doing if you want committed police like Mr Alozie in this country. We concentrate more in corrupt riddle ministries and agencies and we forget the welfare of our service men and woman who risk their lives or daily basis.
