The Defence Headquarters has faulted Governor Seyi Makinde for calling the kidnappers of Oyo schoolchildren terrorists.

According to the military, the attack was an isolated criminal act and not proof that terrorists have a strong base in the South-West.

DHQ also said security forces had already cleared criminal hideouts around Old Oyo National Park and urged residents not to panic.

However, the statement has sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians arguing that anyone who attacks schools and kidnaps children should be treated as a terrorist, regardless of the name used.
