The much awaited London Olympics will officially kick off today after seven years of preparations. London Olympics will end on Sunday August 12, 2012. It would be noted that London has hosted the Olympic Games on two occasions before, in 1908 and 1948. London is the only city in the United Kingdom to have ever hosted the Olympics; the United States is the only country to have hosted Summer Olympics on more occasions than the UK.
However, the Olympic Games is a major international sporting event , in which thousands of athletes participate in a variety of competitions. The Olympic Games are considered to be the world’s foremost sports competition and more than 200 nations participate.[2] The Games are currently held biennially, with Summer and Winter Olympic Games alternating, meaning they occur every four years within their respective seasonal games. Originally, the Olympic games were first held in Greece.

1. WAEC RESULT IS NOT OUT: West African Examination Council, WAEC, on Thursday, denied reports that it has released the May/June 2012 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE, results. In a statement by its Deputy Director, Public Affairs, Yusuf Ari, the body said the marking of examination scripts had just been successfully concluded, noting that the results were yet to be officially released.
2. ARSENAL STARS TO VISIT LAGOS: Information reaching EDESON NEWS disclosed that ARSENAL FC star, Bacary Sagna, Lukas Podolski, Tomas Rosicky and Per Mertesacker are expected to visit Lagos tomorrow Saturday July 28 a Q&A in partnership with Malta Guinness and Airtel. According to our sources, the visit of the Arsenal footballers has nothing to do with the cancelled pre-season match between Arsenal and Super Eagles of Nigeria.
3. TWO INDIANS KILLED IN NIGERIA: Sadly, during the week, precisely on Wednesday July 25, Two Indians and three other people were killed by suspected members of terrorist sect, Boko Haram. Two Indians were killed and one injured when unknown gunmen stormed an Indian owned factory located at Bayan Quarters in Maiduguri, while the other three, two policemen and a civilian, were killed in attacks on a police station and a local government office in the state same day.

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS: A close insider told EDESON NEWS in a telephone chat that Niyi Ogbaro was robbed at gun point a few nights ago in Lagos and the robbers made away with his Camry car and even shot him but fortunately he did not die. 5. BANKING NEWS: Reports say Bankers’ Committee is to establish a data base on customers’ identity, which will be accessible by all banks, so as to check the incidence of fraud through multiple identities.

6. WORLD CELEBRITY GIST: British comedian and actor Russell Brand was ordered by a judge to do 20 hours of community service and pay a fine of $500 in New Orleans on Thursday July 26 over a charge related to throwing a photographer's iPhone through a window.
7. The two people charged with extorting singer Stevie Wonder over a video that portrays the singer in a negative light have pleaded not guilty.
8. UPDATE ON JULIAN ASSANGE Saga: Ecuador is to allow the Swedish authorities to interview Wikileaks founder Julian Assange at its London embassy where he has taken refuge. A source at the embassy in Knightsbridge revealed an approach was made to Sweden on Wednesday. The Australian, 40, arrived on 19 June, announcing he was a political asylum. The anti-secrecy campaigner, whose website published secret US cables, wants to avoid being sent to Sweden to face sex crime claims, which he denies. He faces arrest for breaching the terms of his bail if he leaves the embassy.
9. TWITTER HAVING DIFFICULTIES: Social networking website Twitter suffered its second widespread outage in 5 weeks yesterday, a blow to the micro-blogging service's reputation and reliability. Twitter - infamous for its "fail whale" outage messages in its early years - went dark for hours on June 21. Yesterday, users trying to log on to its website were greeted only by an incomplete error message: "Twitter is currently down for.
