Claus: Serious gravy train going on here. There are more officials than athletes. Funniest one is the Canoe with one athlete and three officials.

Na wa o!

afam4eva:
The funny thing is that the canoe athlete has crashed out of the competition.

O ma se o...

Of course we can't get 5 golds in one olympic game. Our total gold tally in all the olympics put together is 3. But participation is everything.
it is 2 gold so far and not 3.

Naija!!! a whole rear admiral team leading a single canoeist? when canoe become warship? Or just another 'london trip for the boys with full estacode' This my country people sef - I tire.

Una no go make persin pop vein with laughter for this Nairaland.
Rear Admiral nah old sea dog now grin

Rear Admiral Festus Porbeni was, until his retirement from the Nigerian Navy, the minister of transport in General Abdulsalami Abubakar regime. He held many military appointments before becoming the minister of transport

Anyhow, wishing our much maligned athletes a successful outing.

Banking on the runners and Chukwumerije, maybe wrestlers. After watching our basketballers' game with Tunisia and US versus France, mehn, we'll be lucky if we lose with a 20-point deficit, both to US and France. Hard ball there, so I have no high expectations there, if they do good, fine, if not, well, they tried. GO TEAM NIGERIA

pek: it is 2 gold so far and not 3.

It is 3 gold (not 2).One silver, 2000 Sydney Olympics (4x400) metres relay has been changed to gold by IOC courtesy of drug test failure by the American Quartet.

UltraGM:

Nigeria will be featuring in 8 games: basketball, table tennis, athletics, weightlifting, canoe slalom, boxing, wrestling and taekwondo. List of all the members of the Nigerian Team at the 2012 Olympics when you continue...

CANOEING
1. Jonathan Peter Akinyemi - K1 Slalom
2. Ebenezer Ukwunna – Coach
3. Olubunmi Oluode - Admin. Personnel
4. Rear Adm. Festus Porbeni - Team Leader

I wish Jonathan Peter Akinyemi the best of Luck and Gold Medal
As a London base fellow he came to Nigeria to feature (as the first Nigerian) in the canoeing event of the Olympics after claiming the sole spot at the Olympic Games qualifiers in South Africa. he must have reject offer from other Counties

Why should you expect five golds considering the state of sports in Nigeria? You make it sound like Nigeria has spent more money than many other countries that win medals. Many of these athletes have had scholarships from many different sources and some have self funded. It is so easy to write them off for not bringing gold... the athletes of other countries have not come here to peel bananas, have they?

miteolu:

Yes I understand buy are boys & girls should move up from only participation to medals owner
[quote author=miteolu]

Sir, I was just wondering if you were an athlete? I am genuinely asking - not being sarcastic or abusive.
Thanks
