AS Nigerians continue to trade blames over Team Nigeria’s poor performance at the ongoing London Games, another “wasteful” adventure by some top government officials is playing out in far away Korea, where the country’s U-20 women team (Falconets), is training ahead of the Japan 2012 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

The Falconets left Abuja to begin the training tour of Korea last week ahead of the World Cup, which kicks off on August 18. The team had a friendly game against Gwanghou High School’s boys yesterday, winning 2-0 at the Namhae Sports Park in Korea.

However, it was learnt that four members of the House of Representatives led by the Chairman, House Committee on Sports, Godfrey Gaiya, were among the top Nigerian dignitaries currently with the girls on the training tour.

The other are the House Sports Committee’s Deputy Chairman, Ayo Omidiran; Kareem Bisodun and Ebbo Abdul Ibrahim. Their trip to join the Falconets on a “mere training tour” was a subject of debate in some radio sports programmes in Lagos yesterday.
