I decided to put together this little piece due to the difficulty i encountered about 2 years ago when i was to handle an dynamic website project for a client,a pastor who wanted us to integrate video clips of his sermons into his website.

ow initially this came as a challenege to me due to the fact i didn't want to have anything to do with multimedia and so i stayed focused mainly on dynamic web application programming.Well to cut the long story short it really took me some time to figure how to easily deploy this, especially considering the fact that i didn't want to video clips to open in window media player or quicktime player.

However with video sharing websites like Youtube.com it's as easy as ABC. Here are the quick steps you need to follow to create a video and integrate it into your website.

1. First convert your VCD format into WMV or AVI:This you can do by purchasing or downloading a freeware converter tool such as Power Video Converter.

2. Create or set up a Youtube account :
I guess i don't have to teach you how to do this,if you already have a google account it is even easier as all you will need to do is just to choose a username and choose publishe account option.

3. Login to your Youtube account and start uploading your video clips :Now you upload video clips that are up to 10 mins or less than 100B in size but the good thing is you can have unlimited uploads.

4. Remember to the enable embedding option:
You must enable the embedding option so that you can embed your video clips in your own website.

5.Copy the Embedding Source Code: Once you enable the embedding option this enable you to copy the source code and place it into your own webpage.Once you have embedded the source code into the desired page for instance if you have a webpage called "sermon_videoclips.php".

All you have to do is create either a static or dynamic master page that has a list of your sermons and create a pop up to the page that has the video clips source code embedded in them.

Now lets look at the advantages of this approach

1. You dont have to worry about the hosting space of the large video files, since the files are sitting on Youtube server.

2. You dont have to worry about converting the video to adobe video flash as youtube already does the converting for you.

3.You video clips are embedded in your webpage and so you dont need to open remote video players such as quicktime or windows media player.

Thanks for sharing. Atimes, things may be so obvious but of course, we all end up taking forever doing it the hard way.

If I may add to your post:
One could even boost their (google) ad revenue by adding such youtube video units to their site via their google ad sense account. I don't know how much you get paid per click but I would imagine that with a popular church site, those click could add up wink

I'm yet to figure out how those youtube video units work.
I'll check them out. Sounds like an inferior adsense though.

Seun,

Yeah, I tried adding it to a site I am working on currently but ran into problems on the youtube site. I have since sent the google team an email for help and am awaiting a response. I personally, to tell you the truth, am yet to appreciate where such units can come in handy, but I will find a place for it though grin I am thinking it should integrate seamlessly on the page without it standing out and looking too obvious or taking too much space.

Let's make a bet - the first to get it working should post the response here for the benefit of others cool

I,ve not tried using Youtube but it sounds good. There is a simple way however of integrating a video into your web page without using the media-player active-X or quicktime:
insert the video as you would a graphics using HTML but instead of specifing the source with the "src" parameter, use the "dynsrc" parameter. eg.
<image dynsrc="myvideo.wmv" width="320" hieght="240" loop="1">
One draw back though is that the video will not display any controls.
