Morality is a topic that has been thoroughly much discussed and debated on this forum. Very often, theists are quick to question the moral underpinnings of people holding atheistic worldviews.
Religion and religious people see themselves as people who are privy to the exclusive repositories of lofty moral codes and ideals.
But from whence comes these lofty moral codes ?

The Obvious answer, they claim, is that their high morality are god-centered,god-inspired and god-prescribed in their holy scriptures.
So the scriptures seem to be the source of lofty morality for the religious.

But,a cursory look at human interactions and behaviour, both past and present, shows that there has been no proof, whatsoever, that both the purveyors and consumers of religious scriptures ever live, even close, to the high moral expectations that are demanded of them, and, of which they so fervently profess to have.

This is particularly important because in our society today, there is a straight line corrollation between the phenomenal growth of fundamentalist religious sects and the phenomenal increase in crime and other social vices.

It seems that for religious people, the moral goal posts can be shifted to suit as and when required. One can, for example , find a verse in the bible to justify almost any act of good or evil.
A moral schitzophrenia is manifestedly common in the scriptures.

Lets examine a few bible passages and ask ourselves whether these are the verbatim words of a loving god or the twisted ideals of primitive neurotic psychopaths.

1.
2 Kings:23-24.
Reads: "And when he(Elisha) went up from thence unto Beth-el; and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked , and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up,thou bald head.(24) And he turned back, and looked on them, and
cursed them in the name of the Lord. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them".

This passage is so laughable and ridiculous, one wonders the type of sick mind that would put this on paper as fact.
First, were bears native to Isreal during the time of Elisha? Second, what kind of a man, a prophet, and what kind of a god would allow wild bears to tear apart 42 children just for making fun of a bald-headed old man?

2.
Psalms 137:9
Referring to Babylon, it Reads: "Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones".

So, happy shall he be that smashes little kids against stones? Again, who was the sicko that wrote this passage?

3.
This is the funniest one. Det:11-12
Reads: "When men strive together(fight) one with another, and the wife of one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smitheth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh(or touches) him by the secrets(Instruments),(12) Then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eyes shall not pity her".
Wow, So if a woman tries to save her husband from attackers or bandits and her hand mistakenly touches her husband's ball, thne chop chop goes her hand?
Again, you have to wonder the kind of nuts that wrote these passages.

4.
Mathew 19:12. This is from jesus himself.
Reads: " For there some eunochs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunochs which were made eunochs of men; and there be eunochs, which made themselves eunoch for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to recieve it, let him recieve it".
So we should cut off our balls so that we might enter the kingdom of heaven?
Any volunteers?

Can we seriously say these and many other morally repulsive and contradicting passages are the words of god or the words of stoned out stone age-tent dwellers?

The OP: They are the undiluted word of God!!!
Someone's gonna come in here and dilute them..

Or ignore the question and attack Plaetton...

One that has really bothered me is the insinuation that God is love.... Compare how PAUL describes love in 1 Cor. 13 and then you begin to wonder.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Those shamans had really strong, probably toxic stuff (still do actually, perhaps with science they are saner now though). So ima have to go with stoned-out (or worse) stone age tent (or cave) dwellers.

Then again, there are no gods..

Yeah. What really bothers me is that consumers of these scriptural morality come on the forum to not only question the morality of secular humanist , but the go on to insinuate that secular humanism is satanic(whatever the hell that means to them).

I continue to say, with apologies to my christian friends, that the reason that christianity is laden with so much fraud, the reason that it is so attractive to fraudsters and psychopaths lies in its very shady origins and the moral ambiguities portrayed in the acts of its many heroes.

From the chroniclers of the genesis epic, up to the era of papal power, and finally to the modern day evangelism, there have been no consistent set of moral imperatives.
The problems with christianity are genetic, in its roots.
All that we see are the shifting of the moral goal post from time to time.

The doctrines as it concerns salvation by faith, sin, forgiveness, judgement and eternal damnation all seem to contradict one another.
Accept Jesus by faith =good
Sin and then ask for forgiveness = good

No surprise that it is an "anything goes" religion.

@ plat, The irony that it's similar to evolution is lost on most religious.

“Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it, you’d have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, it takes religion.

easy, man.

the man is probably tired of defending Yahweh, you know Yahweh has committed so much atrocities that his lawyers will have a hell of a job to do for him.

besides, you dont want to appear as a rude fellow and give the religionists a justifiable reason to launch some ad hominien against you.

just saying....
