Super Eagles coach, Berti Vogts, may not be one of the best-paid national team bosses in the world, but he earns more than several of his high-profile colleagues.

The January 2008 edition of World Soccer surveys 13 top national team coaches, among whom is the German-born Eagles boss.

Vogts, who earns £300,000 in a year, is ranked eighth among the 14 the magazine focuses on. His pay is surprisingly higher than the quartet of bosses from the United States of America, Sweden, Serbia and Croatia.

US manager, Bob Bradley, earns £220,000 annually, £80,000 less than Vogts. More significantly, Sweden boss, Lars Lagerbak, who once described compatriot Sven- Goran Eriksson’s £5m a year England salary as “obscene”, takes home a third of Vogts’ salary annually.

Another high-profile coach, Croatia’s Slaven Bilic, who led his side to qualify for Euro 2008 at the expense of England, earns a paltry £47,000 pounds per year, less than a sixth of Vogts’ annual salary.

Those in Vogts’ range include Serbia’s Spanish coach, Javier Clemente, whose pay is £40,000 short of the Eagles coach’s, and France’s Raymond Domenech, who earns just £10,000 more than the German.

Spain boss, Luis Aragones, earns £350,000, just £50,000 higher than what Vogts gets from the Nigeria Football Association.

The big boys on the salary scale are led by former England boss, Steve McClaren, who received £2.5m in compensation following his sacking. That was the equivalent of his annual salary.

Others in the million-pound range are Russia’s Guus Hiddink, who earns £2m, Portugal’s Luiz Scolari, who receives £1.38m, Germany’s Joachim Loew, who gets £1.75m, and South Africa’s Alberto Parreira, who is paid £1.47m.

Greece’s Otto Rehhagel, who led Greece to that shocking Euro 2004 title, is paid £700,000
