|Benefits OF ECOWAS Vs Naija Customs! by verdas: 7:11pm On Aug 27, 2012|
Hello! I believe therez someone here with a good acknowledge of the ECOWAS community and its benefit to memeber states. Wondering if its right/legal for Nigerian Customs officials to request that duties be paid for tailored clothes imported from Senegal(senegalese)to Nigeria; if this is right, please how are the duties calculated?
This is really important to me and useful comments will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

There is what we call ETLS- Ecowas trade liberation scheme which emphasizes common External Tariff CET. The common external tariff is being used by all member states. This is a scheme that liberailze trade among countries in west africa
duty payable is calculated from CIF - COST INSURANCE FRIEGHT as the base whether 5% , 10%, 20% . Just confirm if they have lifted ban on textile material there could be a clause supporting what you are bringing into nigeria which must have beenm excluded.
7 sucharge frm duty payable
1% CISS of f.o.b
TOTAL DUTY PAYABLE
