Ogundale: I see no reason why Nigerians have to descriminate rick ross. The op who posted this and the moderators why does it have to come to front page. Those insulting rick ross are no way better than him and if you think he did not do the right thing by showing how wreck nigeria is then you need a brain surgeon on a very serious note you even deserve more than that. Nonsense!!!

Hhm, for the good old days of rap...

Now we have peeps like Drake, Flo-rida, Rozay, even Nicki Minaj sef na rapper. SMH.

Well, whether Ricky depicted Naija as it is or he was outta line, a few questions linger though. For one after showing our slums, he ended up showing the "fans" who paid to go and see his show. Wonder how many tickets he gave out in the ghetto though? Also what was with the "militants" dancing around waving woden guns. Na so dem dey do am for Hollywood? He should have borrowed guns from his security details and given to those ghetto boys now. E for sabi am. Even boxer sef no go follow am comot for that area.

Rick Ross sir, if na person wey get plenty bia-bia I wan watch I for go buy Oliver De Coque VCD watch. Rap is truly dead. sad

Maybe if we listened to the lyrics of the song a bit more seriously, maybe then we'd get a sense of what the song and video potray!

As usual, most people are sitting on their brains.

But anyway, even millions of poor hungry Naijas could never hold that fat nigga back anyway grin You'd need a forklift or something to do that cheesy

Does the world look to Rick Ross to get a picture of Nigeria? Nobody knows Rick Ross but teenagers..... The notion that an investor would turn to Rick Ross's video to get any idea of Nigeria is just silly
Re: What Rick Ross’ “hold Me Back” Video Tells The World About Nigerians by HasanWazan: 1:39pm On Sep 21, 2012
It’s unclear what Ross — who has featured a music video with Nigerian pop stars before and has traveled elsewhere on the continent — or the directors of the video, listed as DRE Films & SpiffTV Films, tried to say with this video. Is it a statement against Igbo claims about the Biafran War in which nearly 3 million people lost their lives? I doubt Ross really know anything about Biafra. Or is it about Ross being a fan of soccer, especially of the Nigerian national team? ...

The negative reaction against Ross is understandable, though misplaced (and boring). It’s like the cottage industry calling for “positive” news about “Africa” in Western media. But equally problematic are those praising Ross for “exposing” poor conditions in Lagos when Ross is merely using Nigeria as a backdrop to make him look hard: “We’re so hard we throw dollar bills off boats to poor kids in Nigeria.” And the references to the Biafra war and old soccer games are baffling. If he was trying to show how Nigerians are struggling with poverty or resisting their conditions, why not use more recent/relevant images like Occupy Nigeria?

Tell me what Rick Ross showed about Nigeria that is false?
"Hold me back" is a solidarity song for those who suffer in oppression and poverty.Should he have shot his video in Maitama Abuja where the very people responsible for the thievery and poverty display their ill gotten wealth? His video gives a voice to the voiceless who have been oppressed and deprived by the wickedness of Nigeria.

rabzy:

what i see is a guy on boat who saw a load of kids running around naked in the riverbank and he handed out a few dollars to them. You are the one seeing the kids as lepers, i grew up in such a neighborhood, kids run around naked in the rain and throw stones and what have you at each other. We never saw ourselves as lepers, we had fun, we grew strong, a lot were poor, a lot also came out of poverty...BUT WE ARE HUMANS and that was our reality, and we struggled to come out...don't look at us from your jeeps as lepers, as diseased, as unfit...that is the ultimate insult.

There is no Neighborhood in Nigeria or even in the whole world where anyone will hand out dollars and people would not rush out to get it, the question is how much are you handing out....if you hand out enough people will rush at it. Rick ross did not wrong, the kids did nothing wrong...and those kids are strong and none of them look sickly....they would probably run faster and outlast many of the buttish kids in our private schools in a 200 metres dash.
DERE Z A DIFF BTWN SEE'G N TREATING SME1 AS A LEPER/BEGGARS.........
