That Chinese sounds Yoruba and Japanese sounds like Hausa.
Re: Have You Noticed? by ezeagu(m): 10:05pm On Sep 24, 2012
Are you sure? If you hear Yoruba and Chinese they sound nothing alike apart from the use of high, middle and low tones, and Hausa sounds absolutely nothing like Japanese.

I can't think of any Nigerian language Chinese sounds like, and Igbo sounds like Japanese when it is written. Hausa sounds like Arabic and all the other Afro-Asian languages.

So far responses are against my opinion but seriously, I find the tone of Chinese similar to Yoruba.

Somebody said Hausa sounds like Arabic, that's widely known and accepted because Hausa borrows heavily from Arabic.

However, I find some Japanese words sounding quite similar to Hausa.

Seriously, the more I ponder,

Hope you don't mind asking how you arrived at this conclusion?

I am particular about the intonation. I am very sure a Chinese person can correctly pick-up Yoruba rather easily. We too can pick-up working Chinese.

I watch a lot of CCTV and I find their intonation similar to Yoruba.

Has for Japanese and Hausa, there is a certain way they emphasis some words that make them sound a little bit similar to me. It is a little bit difficult to explain. However, I will look for similar sounding words later. Although, I don't speak Hausa O.

I think I'll sorta buy the Yoruba-resembles-Nihongo-than-kanji....
I actually think hausa sounds more pleasant than chinese... if there should be any language of ours that sounds similar, IMO, it should def be Efik.
Re: Have You Noticed? by ezeagu(m): 11:14pm On Sep 28, 2012
Efik doesn't sound like Chinese plus there's no tone in Efik but it may be the closest. Tonal languages will sound similar all over the world.

'Fly' in Igbo is 'Fé' (high tone), 'fly' in Mandarin is 'Fēi' (high tone).
'Is not' in Igbo is 'bụ ghị' (high tone, low tone), in Mandarin it's 'bú shì' (rising tone, falling tone).
'Throw' in Igbo 'tú' (high), Mandarin 'tóu' (rising). ('tú vote' informally in Igbo is to vote, 'tóupiào' in Mandarin is to vote).

'What' in igbo is 'gini', what in Japanese is 'nani'.
'Deep' in Igbo is 'umimi', ocean or sea in Japanese is 'umi'.

Japanese is similar to Yoruba with words like Shogun.
