Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for entry into the following programmes:
A. FACULTY OF HUMANITIES
All Humanities PhD programmes require a minimum CGPA of 3.5 on a 5 point scale except English Studies which requires a minimum CGPA of 4.0 on a 5 point scale. In addition candidates must score a minimum of 60% in the admission interview to be found admissible.
1. COMPARATIVE LITERATURE PROGRAMME
M.A. Comparative Literature
PhD Comparative Literature
Requirements for MA Comparative Literature Programme:
Candidates shall possess at least a Second Class Honours Degree with a CGPA of not less than 3.0 points on a 5 point scale or its equivalent in Literature from a recognized University. Graduates in English have to produce evidence of a minimum of two years (four semesters) academic exposure to French or another language of International communication.
African Language
There is a Special African Language requirement for the Comparative Literature Programme. Any candidate who is deficient in speaking, reading or writing an African language will be required to take an appropriate course in the Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies and produce evidence of having passed that course.
Requirements for PhD Comparative Literature Programme:
Candidates must have an M.A. degree in Literature or M.A. degree in other related discipline in addition to the other Faculty Requirements.

Candidates must have an M.A. degree in Theatre Arts in addition to the other Faculty Requirements.

5. DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY AND DIPLOMATIC STUDIES
(i) Postgraduate Diploma in History & Diplomacy (PGDHD)
Qualifications for Admission
To be eligible for admission into Post Graduate Diploma Programme, a candidate must have a good Honours degree in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Education, Law and the Management Sciences.
(ii) Master of Arts (M.A.) in the following areas:

Qualifications for Admission
To qualify for admission into the MA degree programmes of the Department, candidate must posses at least a Second Class Honours Degree with a CGPA of not less than 3.00 on a 5 point scale or its equivalent of the University of PortHarcourt or from any other recognized University in the relevant subjects.
Except for Archaeology/Cultural Heritage Management, candidates from non-History backgrounds will be required to pass through the Department’s Post Graduate Diploma Programme in History and Diplomacy before admission into the MA programmes.
(iii) Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme in the following areas:
(a) Diplomacy
(b) African History and Development Studies
(c) History and Niger Delta Studies
(d) Archaeology

Qualifications for Admission
Candidates who have MA/MSc degree CGPA of not less than 3.5 on a 5 point scale or its equivalent in the Humanities and Social sciences, especially History, Archaeology, Anthropology, Religious and Cultural Studies, Sociology, Economics and International Relations to qualify for admission into the various Graduate options in the Department. except for Archaeology, candidates from non-History backgrounds are, expected to pass through the Department’s Post Graduate Diploma Programme in History and Diplomacy to be admitted into PhD degree programmes. In addition, candidates will be required to present a written proposal on a dissertation topic in their chosen field, and score a minimum of 60% in pre-admission oral interview.
6. DEPARTMENT OF LINGUISTICS AND COMMUNICATION STUDIES

(a) Candidate must possess at least a Second Class Honours Degree in Social Sciences, Science, Engineering, Social Medicine, Env. Sciences, Town Planning, Agriculture, Forestry, and Communication or information Technology with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 5 point scale of the University
of Port Harcourt of its equivalent from other recognized Universities.
(b) HND holders with at least Upper Credit in a related discipline plus a minimum credit level pass (CGPA of 3.5 on a 5 point scale) in (PGDGEM) from the University of Port Harcourt or other recognized Universities.
N/B: (Work experience in scientific, management and policy-oriented departments, especially disaster risk management organizations of government and private sector will be added advantage.)

(iv) Postgraduate Diploma in Logistics and Transport Management
(v) M.Sc and Ph.D in Transport or Logistics
Requirements for PGD Admission in Logistics and Transport:
(i) Candidate must possess at least a First Degree from University of Port Harcourt or any other recognized University.
(ii) HND or its equivalent (at least an Upper Credit);
(iii) Holders of a recognized professional qualification in logistics/transport e.g. Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT); Institute of Transport Administration, etc with at least 5 years working experience in a transport or related organization.
Requirements for M.Sc in Logistics or Transport Management:
(i) Candidate must possess Postgraduate Diploma in Logistics and Transport Management from a recognized University.
(ii) A first Degree (not lower than Second Class Lower) in Transport, Logistics or related discipline e.g. Town Planning; Economics; Geography.
Requirements for Ph.D in Logistics or Transport Management:
Candidate must possess an M.Sc Degree in Logistics or Transport Management in addition to the other Faculty Requirements.
12. DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY
(i) Post Graduate Diploma in Sociology (PGDS). To be eligible to apply for
the PGDS, Candidates must posses at least a Third Class in Sociology or
minimum of Second Class Honours lower Division in related disciplines in
the Social Sciences and Humanities.

AND DEVELOPMENT
Requirements for M.Sc International Trade and development:
Candidate must possess a minimum of Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in Social and Management Sciences. Candidates with Second Class (Lower Division) with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 will be admitted if they have at least three years working experience in trade or related industry. Applicants will be subjected to written test and oral interview by a panel of trade professionals and representatives of stakeholders of the Centre.

(i) Graduates of the University of Port Harcourt or any other approved University who have obtained approved Bachelor’s degree in Adult Education with at least 3.00 CGPA on a 5 point scale or its equivalent.
(ii) Candidates who did not major in Adult Education but obtained at least 2nd Class Honours degree or above and with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 in the Postgraduate Diploma in Education. Such candidates would be required to do some remedial courses as prescribed in the handbook.

(ii) Candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Science Education after having obtained the Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) in Human Kinetics or Human Kinetics and Health Education (this category of candidates may be required to take some additional courses in Human Kinetics and related courses as may be prescribed by the Department.
(iii) Upper Credit in Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) with a CGPA of at least 4.00

(ii) A degree in Medicine or appropriate Medical Science in Nursing or Advanced

(i) Requirements -
Candidates must possess any of the following degrees;
(a) BSc, BA, B.Eng, MSc, M.A, MBA, PhD (without any Teaching Certificate) and their equivalent from a recognized University.(1st Degree with a minimum of 3rd class)
(b) HND Upper Credit and its equivalent from recognized Polytechnics.
(ii) Duration
(a) Full-Time: The programme will last for minimum of 12 calendar months and maximum of 24 calendar months.
(b) Part-Time: (Sandwich), The programme will last for a minimum duration of two long vacations and maximum of 3 long vacations.
E. FACULTY OF ENGINEERING
All Engineering PhD programmes require a minimum CGPA of 3.5 on a 5 point scale. Candidates would be required to attend an interview before admission and registration for the programme, and will be required to write a qualifying examination
Requirements for Faculty of Engineering
1. PGD Programmes: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 3rd Class Honours in his/her choice of discipline or a minimum of 22 in any other related Engineering discipline.
2. M.Eng Programmes: Candidates must possess either a Bachelor’s Degree with minimum of Second Class Honours in the relevant Discipline, with a minimum CGPA of 3.0 on a 5 point scale or PGD in the relevant areas with minimum CGPA of 3.50 on a 5 point scale.
32. Master of Engineering Management (MEM) in the following areas:
(a) Chemical Engineering
(b) Civil Engineering
(c) Electrical./Electronic Engineering
(d) Mechanical Engineering
(e) Petroleum Engineering
Requirements:
Candidates must possess a 22Bachelors Degree in a chosen Engineering discipline with a minimum CGPA of 3.0. The MEM is a Terminal Degree.

Candidates must possess a Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related science discipline, with a minimum CGPA of 3.0. The M.Env.T is a Terminal Degree.

(i) Graduates of the University of Port Harcourt or other Universities recognized by statute of the University of Port Harcourt with a Second Class Honours degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 5 point scale or its equivalent in Human Physiology or related discipline.
(ii) Holders of MB.BS, DVVM or BVM, Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Anatomy with a CGPA of 3.50 in Post Graduate Diploma in Human Physiology.
(iii) Requirement for PhD programmes: Candidates must possess an M.Sc or M.Phil degree or its equivalent in Human Physiology in addition to the other Faculty Requirements.
37. DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
(i) Postgraduate Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (PGDME)
Requirement for PGDME:
Candidates must possess a Bachelors degree with a minimum of Third Class in
Dentistry and Pharmacy with at least a minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 5 point scale or its equivalent.
Mechanical Engineering or a minimum of Second Class in any related Engineering Discipline.
(ii) M.Eng., PhD in Mechanical Engineering in the following areas:
(a) Applied Mechanics and Design
(b) Engineering Materials Design
(c) Production/Industrial Engineering
(d) Thermofluid Engineering
38. DEPARTMENT OF PETROLEUM AND GAS ENGINEERING
(i) Postgraduate Diploma in Petroleum Engineering (PGDPE) and Petroleum
Technology (PGDPT)
Requirement for PGDPE:
Candidates must possess a Bachelors degree with a minimum of 3rd Class in Petroleum & Gas Engineering or a minimum of 2nd Class in any related Engineering Discipline.
(ii) Postgraduate Diploma in Petroleum Technology (PGDPT)
Requirement for PGDPT:
Candidates with degree in Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Geophysics, or Metallurgy with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower degree or 3rd Class with at least five (5) years industry experience are eligible to apply.
(iii) M.Eng., PhD in Petroleum Engineering in the following areas:
(a) Reservoir Engineering
(b) Gas Engineering
(c) Drilling Engineering
(d) Production Engineering
(e) Petroleum Economics
F. FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCES
All Management Sciences PhD programmes require a minimum CGPA of 4.0 on a 5 point scale. All PhD candidates are expected to attend a pre-admission oral interview, at which they are REQUIRED to defend their written proposals
(i) Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in the following areas:
(a) Accounting
(b) Finance and Banking
(c) Management
(d) Marketing
Requirements for PGD Programmes:
Candidates must possess at least a Third Class degree in the field of
specialization. Other candidates in related Disciplines must possess at least a Second Class Honours degree or a third class. For HND holders, a minimum of upper credit is acceptable in the related discipline.
(ii) Master of Business Administration (MBA) in the following areas:
(a) Accounting
(b) Finance and Banking
(c) Management
(d) Marketing
Requirements for MBA Programmes:
Candidates must have B.Sc degree in the field of specialization with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 5 point scale in (Accounting, Finance and Banking, Management, Marketing). Others from related fields must possess at least a 3.50 on a 5 point scale from PGD programmes.
(iii) Master of Science (M.Sc) in the following areas:
(a) Accounting
(b) Finance and Banking
(c) Management
(d) Marketing
Requirements for MSc Programmes:
Candidates with a minimum of 22 B.Sc degree in the field of specialization with minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 5 point scale or its equivalent.
Holders of MBA in Mgt Sciences with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 5 point scale or its equivalent.
(iv) Doctorate Degree (PhD) in the following areas:
(a) Accounting
(b) Finance and Banking
(c) Management
(d) Marketing
Requirements for PhD programmes:
Candidates must have M.Sc in the field of specialization (Accounting, Finance and Banking, Management, Marketing) in addition to the other Faculty Requirements.
COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES
Pharmacology PhD programme require a minimum CGPA of 4.0 on a 5 point scale.
G. FACULTY OF BASIC MEDICAL SCIENCES
39. MD/MS DEGREE PROGRAMME
(a) Candidates must be either Medical Graduates (MBBS) of the University of Port Harcourt for not less than 5 years or confirmed and experienced academic staff of the University with Medical degree of other recognized Universities.
(b) In addition to the above, candidates must possess either a recognized professional qualification at the fellowship level or at least an M.Sc degree of a recognized University, after the MB.BS degree.

40. DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY

(i) M.Sc Anatomy
(a) Candidates must possess a Second Class Honours Degree with at least a CGPA
of 3.00 on a 5 point scale or its equivalent in Anatomy from the University of
Port Harcourt or other recognized Universities.
b) Holders of good degree in Medicine and Surgery, Veterinary Medicine,
42. DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOLOGY
(i) M.Sc Pharmacology
(a) Candidates must possess a Second Class Honours Degree with at least a
CGPA of 3.00 on a 5 point scale or its equivalent in Pharmacology from the
University of Port Harcourt or other recognized Universities.
(b) Holders of good degree in Medicine and Surgery, Veterinary Medicine,
Dentistry, Physiology, and related Biomedical Science subjects.
(ii) Ph.D in Pharmacology, Candidates must possess an M.Sc or an M.Phil Degree or an equivalent degree in Pharmacology in addition to the other Faculty Requirements.
43. DEPARTMENT OF HAEMATOLOGY, BLOOD TRANSFUSION
AND IMMUNOLOGY
Requirements for M.Sc in Immunology Programmes:
The Course is open to graduates of Medicine, Dentistry, Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Nursing, Biochemistry, Molecular-Biology, Microbiology, Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, Zoology and other relevant courses. Candidates who hold a minimum of Second Class Honours (Lower Division) with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 5 point scale or in any of the above mentioned subjects, from the University of Port Harcourt or other recognized Universities shall be eligible for admission into the programme except, the Medical and Dental graduates.
H. FACULTY OF CLINICAL SCIENCES

44. M.Sc Sports Medicine
(a) For medically qualified persons with MB.BS, B.Ch or a fellowship in any
Medical discipline.
(b) The duration of Course is 18 – 36 months.
The Course work will be taught in two semesters of 12 months while the
student will spend the remaining 6 months in a training attachment and a
project work.
(c) Area of specialty – Sports Medicine generally, while the project work will
be on Sport of interest.
45. DEPARTMENT OF PREVENTIVE AND SOCIAL MEDICINE
i. Master of Public Health (MPH) for MBBS graduate
ii. Master of Science in Public Health (MSc Public Health MSPH for other B.Sc in Science, Anatomy etc.)

Admission Requirements:
The programmes will be open to candidates who possess a first degree in Medicine, Basic Medical Sciences, Pharmacy, Nursing and other relevant courses allied to Medicine. In addition candidates must have at least three years post degree experience and must have completed National Youth Service (NYSC) programme. Candidates for admission into the programme will undergo a selection process and only those who are successful will be admitted into the programme.
To serve the interest and needs of all Medical, Health and allied professions who desire the programme, there is need to simultaneously mount two separate programme, one for medically qualified graduates and another for non-medically qualified professionals who wish to practice Public Health.
Requirements for Master of Public Health Programme:
(a) MBBS or its equivalent, with a minimum of three years post qualification experience.
(b) Candidates are also required to pass the qualifying examination.
Requirements for MSc Public Health Programme:
(a) B.Sc Honours in a health-related discipline with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division (22) Degree with CGPA not less than 3.00 on a 5 point scale or CGPA of 2.5 on a 4 point scale.
(b) Candidates are also required to pass the qualifying examination.
DURATION OF GRADUATE PROGRAMMES
A.Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
The Programme is to run on a Full-Time basis to last for a minimum of 12 calendar months and maximum of 24 calendar months and also on a Part-Time basis for two (2) consecutive Long Vacations of eight (cool Weeks each (Sandwich Programme).
B. Master of Education (M.Ed) Sandwich Programmes.
The Programme will spread over three Long vacations as follows:
(i) Course work (including Seminar) to be completed in two (2) consecutive Long Vacations.
D. MBA Programme
Full-Time: Minimum of 24 Calendar Months and Maximum of 48 Calendar Months
Part-Time: Minimum of 36 Calendar Months and Maximum of 60 Calendar Months.
E. MD and MS Programmes
The Programmes will be at least 24 Calendar Months duration.

F. Ph.D Programmes
Full-Time candidates will be required to spend a minimum of 24 calendar months and a maximum of 60 calendar months.
Part-Time candidates will be required to spend a minimum of 36 calendar months and a maximum of 84 calendar months
GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
ALL PGD PROGRAMMES
The minimum requirements for the Postgraduate Diploma Programmes is a Bachelor’s Degree in the related disciplines. Candidates must possess at least a Second Class Honours Degree or Third Class in the related Discipline. For HND holders a minimum of Upper Credit is acceptable in the relevant Departments.
PGDCHE
For the Postgraduate Diploma in Chemistry (PGDCHE) Programme, candidates with Third Class need not apply.
MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMMES
Candidates must possess at least a Second Class Honours Degree of the University of Port Harcourt or any recognized University, in the relevant subject with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 points on a 5 point scale or its equivalent. Candidates for the Master’s in Education must have obtained a first degree in another field and in addition a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) with at least an Upper Credit classification. Candidates for the MBA Programme must possess a strong qualitative background. Candidates with PGD must have a CGPA of 3.50 to register for Master’s Degree in the relevant field
PhD PROGRAMMES
Candidates for the PhD Programmes should have a Master’s Degree with a minimum CGPA of 4.0 or its equivalent grade in the relevant discipline at the Master’s level. Admission will be based on interview performance. PhD involves course work and qualifying examination.


MD/MS PROGRAMME
(A) Candidates must either be Medical candidates (MBBS) of the University of Port Harcourt for not less than five (5) years or confirmed and experienced academic staff of the University with medical degree of recognized University.

(B) In addition to the above, candidates must possess either a recognized professional qualification at the fellowship level or at least an M.Sc degree of a recognized University, after the MBBS degree
