Arthroscopic surgery
Arthroscopic surgery, often misspelled and mispronounced as orthoscopic surgery, consists of viewing a joint with a small camera inserted through an incision in the skin. Arthroscopy is most commonly performed on the knee joint, but it can also be used on the wrist, ankle, shoulder, or hip. Arthroscopic surgery is sometimes referred to as orthscopic surgery, but this term properly refers to correct vision and does not describe any type of surgery.This is provided purely to keep your joint comfortable. Surgery work
Arthroscopy uses a device called an arthroscope. This tiny, pen-shaped instrument has a micro video camera attached to the end. The arthroscope is inserted through a tiny incision in your shoulder. The camera relays images to a computer screen. Your surgeon can use the images to diagnose the joint problem and to carry out appropriate surgery.
• Remove small bits of bone or cartilage
• Repair or remove torn tendons
• Remove inflamed synovium
• The membrane that lines the cavity of a synovial joint and produces synovial fluid
• Remove inflamed bursae
Arthroscopy is less invasive and less traumatic to the muscles, ligaments, and tissues than the method of surgically opening the knee with long incisions, also known as an arthrotomy. The benefits of arthroscopy include: smaller incisions, faster healing, a quicker recovery, and minor scarring. Arthroscopic surgical procedures are often performed on an outpatient basis and typically the patient returns home the same day.
