PREDATORY AND MANPILULATIVE’: Susanne Ibru

A WOMAN has been jailed for 18 weeks after pleading guilty to again stalking Premier League footballer Rio Ferdinand.

At an earlier hearing Susanne Ibru admitted to breaching a restraining order that banned her from going near the Manchester United defender’s home in Alderley Edge, Cheshire.

Police were called to the premises on the evening of September 21 when Ibru - who was previously given a 10-week sentence along with a 10-year restraining order in May 2011 - tried to visit the former England captain, claiming that they have lived together for 15 years.

Ibru, who was described as ‘predatory and manipulative’, appeared for sentencing today (October 19) at Macclesfield Magistrates Court where she received her sentence.

“There are a number of factors that aggravate this offence, your antecedent history, your breach of harassment orders, and the psychological harm to the victims who live at this address,” said Chair of the bench Denise Rankin.

“You are at high risk of causing serious harm to the victims, family and staff living at this particular property.”

A Nigerian woman and daughter of one of the Ibrus who stalked Rio Ferdinand has been jailed and ordered to stay away from the Manchester United footballer for the next ten years.

Susanne Ibru, who was branded “a predatory and manipulative fantasist”, remained defiant to the last as she was given a ten-week prison sentence.
The 38-year-old, who had jumped bail then spat at a woman police officer when she was arrested, made a V-sign at the judge as she was led from the dock, telling him: “I put two fingers up at you.”

Former England captain Ferdinand had earlier told how she left him fearing for his family’s safety by repeatedly making a 400-mile round trip from London to Cheshire just to call at his £5million luxury home.

Yesterday Crewe Magistrates’ Court was told a pre-sentence report had described Ibru as “living in a fantasy world, unable to interpret social situations and boundaries.”
It added: “She has a predatory and manipulative lifestyle.”

During the trial for harassment last month, Ibru represented herself and cross-examined her victim but fled the court during the lunch break.

The defendant was living in Peckham, south London, when she made three 400-mile round trips to Ferdinand’s home in Alderley Edge on February 21 last year, then again on June 16 and 18, her trial heard.

The court heard that, on the day of her arrest in Warrington, Cheshire, she spat in the face of the arresting officer.

Ibru, wearing a red skirt and beige jacket, had pleaded guilty to assaulting the police officer.

District Judge Sanders said police officers “did not deserve to be spat on” when carrying out their duty.

The court heard that Ibru had ambitions of becoming a “sports agent” and Simon Leech, defending, said the she was an “accomplished athlete”.

Ibru, who has previous convictions for assault, public order offences and possessing an offensive weapon “bitterly regretted” struggling with the arresting officers and offered an apology in the police station for spitting.


She was made the subject of a 10-year restraining order banning her from entering the village of Alderley Edge, Cheshire, and approaching Rio Ferdinand and his wife, and she must not go to any match or event which the footballer is attending.

A woman who stalked Manchester United footballer Rio Ferdinand has been arrested after she fled court.

Susanne Ibru, 38, of Peckham, was convicted in her absence of harassing the England star and his family.

She left Macclesfield Magistrates' Court on Monday after being told she could not cross-examine the defender's wife, Rebecca.

Ibru was arrested in Warrington and charged with a further offence of assaulting a police officer.

District Judge Nicholas Sanders had issued a warrant so Ibru could be brought back before him and sentenced.

She appeared at South Cheshire Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, where she also pleaded guilty to breaching her bail conditions by arriving 90 minutes late for Monday's trial.

Simon Leech, defending, said it was a genuine error as she went to the wrong court building.

He said she was arrested moments after she had called a taxi to take her to the police station where she intended on handing herself in.

Judge Sanders said she would be sentenced for the harassment and bail matters at a later date, but said he might consider a community punishment.

Ibru was remanded and is due to appear before Warrington magistrates on 9 May over the alleged assault of a police officer, which is being dealt with separately.

'See you soon'

She will appear before Judge Sanders again on Wednesday, when he will consider a bail application.

She was remanded to allow police to establish where she lives, as she has been linked with addresses in Queens Road, Newcastle upon Tyne; Shaws Road, Southport; and York Terrace, Liverpool.

Judge Sanders described it as a "mystery".

On Monday, the court heard how she turned up at Mr Ferdinand's home in Alderley Edge three times in the space of four months in 2010.

Ibru had denied harassing the ex-England captain and his family.

Conducting her own defence, she told the court during her cross-examination of the footballer that she had been to Mr Ferdinand's house "about four or five times".

She asked him: "Do you think that amounts to harassment?"

He replied: "Yes."

As Mr Ferdinand left the court after giving his evidence, Ibru said: "I'll see you soon, bye."

Rebecca Ferdinand was excused from giving evidence following the birth of the couple's daughter.

Ibru told the judge she wanted to question Mrs Ferdinand and, when she was told she could not, she walked out of court and failed to return.

Giving his verdict, Judge Sanders said: "It is without question that it did amount to harassment of Mr and Mrs Ferdinand.

"Miss Ibru, I suspect, will say she didn't know but she certainly should have done."
