6 Artistes That Should Not Have Taken The Headies by Nobody: 12:28pm On Oct 22, 2012 |
For those of us, who do not bother to attend every red, black or yellow carpet event in Lagos, we were almost not too surprised, when we woke up on Sunday morning and beheld the winners of this year’s Headies. It is surely not the worst or most controversial set of winners ever. But here are SIX artistes that shouldn’t have left the Eko Hotels with an Headies plaque: 1. Wizkid – Revelation of the Year For real? Are the organisers kidding us? If EME’s wonder boy, Wizkid, is being hailed as a revelation this year, it suggests to me, we knew not about his talent in 2011 or even 2010. The other nominees were a joke as well. Iceprince Zamani, Bez, Timi Dakolo, all revelations? What happened to Flowwsickk? Burna Boy? Dammy Krane? Chidinma? 2. Davido – Next Rated We’re not even going to delve into the argument of if Omo Baba Olowo, needed an extra car in his garage. What he didn’t deserve, was to win The Next Rated category. Or else, we are also saying his ‘much anticipated’ album that was released this year, is the hottest thing since microwave. Eva Alordiah, is not all that, so even the tears she shed on the night for not winning, will not change our minds. Praiz should have taken home this award. 3. D’Banj – Song of the Year How exactly did Oliver Twist pick up song of the year, ahead of monstrous hits like Dami Duro, Chop my money, Kukere or even Gaga crazy? Yes, pull us aside and spin a yarn about how massive Oliver Twist is abroad, but allow us remind you that The Headies is supposed to celebrate what is happening here. The other songs are still rocking parties and clubs, while Oliver Twist’s relevance is kept alive for random folks remixing it. 4. Jude Okoye – Best Music Video LOL! This must be the height. Jude Okoye? Allow us to even overlook the enigmatic Clarence Peters that was also in that category. Brymo’s Ara, expertly directed by Ajeh Filmworks, was a brilliant work of art. If Jude won this award for Onyinye remix, we will applaud it, but Chop my money remix, was too basic a video to win this category. 5. P-Square – Album of the Year It took us a bit of time to get round to liking The Invasion. But albums like Wizkid’s Superstar and Bez’s Super Sun, are off to flying starts and should have won really. 6. Chuddy K – Best Street Hop This is altogether confusing. Are the organizers saying that a song shot on the streets, should win this award? Gaga crazy had no business being in this category to start with. Terry G’s Akpako, Rayce’s Roll or Kako bi chicken, would have been worthy winners. Source: dailypost.com.ng/2012/10/22/6-artistes-taken-home-headies-plaque-year/
