What language do you wish to learn? Anywayz, I will advice you to learn C first and after that you can go to Java... C gives you the basic foundation in learning Java

Just go with Java and you cain't go wrong.
just make sure you start with the latest which is Java7.
Why? Cause for one its the defacto of mobile devices (obviously the direction the world is heading). Also you can use it to program just about any device and any platform.
in addition its still rated one of the highest paying programming skill globally.
