What is Centrex Hacking Lab?

Centrex Hacking-Lab is an IT security portal that deals with hacking and defense strategies, It is a free, eLearning platform specializing in InfoSec courses. Hacking Lab is a place where people can learn and teach each other about online security using principles of Open Knowledge. We believe in “Learning by Doing” but this is a hard and time-consuming task in our own environment.

WHY REMOTE SECURITY LAB FOR UNIVERSITIES?
Centrex Hacking-Labs is a professional Remote Security Lab for Universities. The services have two benefits:
1. The portal will be used by several Nigerian universities student to enrich theoretical modules with practical exercises. The portal is a tool in providing well-trained system administrators as well as well-trained programmers regarding security matters to bridge the widening gap .

2. The project will be used to encourage student in vulnerability research and inter university ethical hacking / war game competitions a real life scene. It‘s hard to explain the benefit of Hacking-Lab, because most universities have some sort of lab already. But we know from our partnering educational institutions, student like hands on exercise. Moreover, the portal is design in such a way that our teacher has some extra options, including solution videos, solution step-by-step descriptions to solve vulnerability issues in Nigerian i.c.t infrastructure.

What Makes Centrex Hacking-Lab Unique?

Centrex HACkING-LAB PRE-REqUIREMENTS
„Event Management“ – All participants of Centrex Hacking-Lab need to register on the Lab account. This user will then be assigned to the University class/course. We will accept the users privacy requirements and we will not sell the e-mail addresses to third parties. Students shall give random nicknames to hide their identity.
„LiveCd“ – Centrex Hacking-Lab provides a free Hacking-Lab LiveCD as a standardized client infrastructure. The LiveCD is constantly being revised as well as updated monthly. The usage of the LiveCD is not a must; you can use your own preferred client workstation. Most students can run the LiveCD in Virtual Box software.
„Virtual windows Client Infrastructure“ – Some challenges require Microsoft Windows as client workstations or physical access to the lab environment. We are providing a virtual client workstation that is bridged to the lab network. This is especially important for layer2 security labs and similar.

Capacity Building: We hope to discover new talents, methods and ideas; and to encourage development in the field of information security. It is our hope that besides discovering gifted hackers and cyber-defenders, Centrex Ethical Lab will inspire the development of information security professionals of the future.
Raising Awareness: We hope to educate the Africa community on issues of information security and encourage further development of the field. We hope the games will raise awareness towards increase education and ethics in information security.
Global Peace: We hope to foster friendship and create cohesiveness between information security professionals, whether as an individual, representing a corporation or for a national agency and encourage frequent exchange of essential information, technology and skills through the games. We need to shift the student mindset from music loving society to great research innovator taking advantage of Nigerian worst cyber crime rating to best cyber defenders and researchers
Child Online Protection: Through supporting partners and raising awareness, we can foster an environment that creates child online protection through education.
