Nudity in our movie industry. Why?

Most of our movies star are now putting on all sort of skimpy dresses. Why are they doing this? Or we want to be Americans in everything thing we do? Let's try to be original for once and stop copy-copy. Or they want ruggedman to come into movie industry? That will be too bad oh. So make somebody go advice them before I send invitation to Mr. RuggedMan ... smiley

Uhmm. Excuse me sir, we are being original, the world is changing.

Why do you like American movies? Most Nigerians now like Hollywood movies. Nollywood stars are mad, and they feel the best way to get back their audience is by copying hollywood!

If memory serves me correct, the norm nowadays is reveal as much as possible, and films are supposed to imitate what obtains in real life, so...

Nudity is part of African beauty.

If I want to produce a documentary film of topless African village girls and I want it to be original, should they put on clothes?

Or if I want to show a woman giving birth in my film, should she be covered up with wrapper?

Is this not original African beauty?

There are so many of them even in Middle Belt of Nigeria and in South Eastern Nigeria.
I travel to the interior areas of our villages on locations for documentaries.
I am currently working on "Naked Beauty".

I was in one village in Akwa Ibom where the young maidens and young men even bathe topless together.

There isn't enough nudity in Nigerian movies. We need to see more flesh.
They already show a lot of bloodshed, but I guess most people will prefer nudity rather than violence.

In that case, if we must potray nudity, then let's do it the AFRICAN WAY not trying and failing woefully to copy Hollywood. To start with, most of the Hollywood actresses/actors can afford personal trainers to keep them 'well-buffed'. So when they're showing 'skin', there are no bulges, spare tyres or love handles.

Haven't you noticed in the 'historical' Nollywood films, where they tie a piece of cloth around the chest, with the waist beads, a short wrapper and all the traditional make-up, they still look good and sexy without looking tacky.

So, yes nudity is part of our culture; however let's do it our way and not copy-copy!!!
Re: Nudity in the Nigerian Movie Industry by Orikinla(m): 9:09am On Aug 25, 2006
Nudity may not be pornography.

I am going to have an audition for only young Nigerians between ages 18 and 22 and from the Middle Belt and Southern states of Nigeria who can act to play the lead role in our film and the chosen actress must be ready to be topless in four scenes. And there is no sex in this film.

The film is meant to encourage young unmarried youths not to mistake sex for love.
The film will show the purity of the nudity of an African virgin in a village in Rivers State.

There is a sacred ceremony in Okrika when virgin maidens dance topless.

This is a romantic and exotic film without any erotic scene.

Art students and educated artists who are used to nude models in life drawings will understand me.

If you gape and mope at the boobs you will miss the message. grin
Boobs are like flowers. They will droop later and become flabby.

Those ones are premature boobs.

Wait until you see the ones of Oma the leading actress in our film.
And we are shooting in Port Harcourt and on Bonny Island. So, you can even come and see her on set.

Nudity is part of African beauty.

Orikinla, you got it perfect. nudity is part of African beauty and even culture. afterall my great-grand father had six wives and in their photo i saw they were all showing their breast, not only in nigeria all over Africa most cultural activities ladies dance naked.

so mr. poster(owolabi) don't say we are coping, we are only practicing the legendary culture.
Re: Nudity in the Nigerian Movie Industry by Orikinla(m): 7:13pm On Sep 02, 2006
Mo money,
Thanks for your more enlightened perspective.

Most people are just so fixated on sexuality that any naked body means sex to them.

Medical doctors do a lot of VE procedures and these are just normal.

You cannot even scratch your crotch again in peace without one misinformed nosey parker not jumping to inappropriate conclusions that you are itching for sex.

The fact is when our village girls and women were going about topless, they were safe and sexual immorality was not prevalent. Because we had law and order in those so called primitive days. But today, the sight of a babe in a mini skirt is seen as nudity when our village girls went about in short waist clothes and that was the traditional haute couture.

Western civilization has misinformed and miseducated the majority of us to have erroneous and ambiguous knowledge of the facts of life.

u call wat u see on naija movies nudity?
Re: Nudity in the Nigerian Movie Industry by Orikinla(m): 8:07pm On Sep 02, 2006
I don't think there is anything wrong in any Nigerian actress being topless in a movie if the nude scenes are in the screenplay.

If the actress is acting the role of a model in an art studio and has to pose topless for the artist to draw and paint her, there is nothing alarming, because to achieve the impact of the aesthetics of the scene, we must do our best to prove the credibility and even if we use a dummy it does not make any difference. Because nudity is nudity whether depicted by a real human or the dummy. What the viewers see is the same nude body.

We are already working on the film where topless village maidens are going to appear and one of the village maidens agrees in secret to pose topless for an artist and photographer who is in the village to do geographical study of the fishing village life.

I was in one village where the village maidens were swimming topless in the stream and nobody was losing his mind.

If we are telling a story of the naked Koma tribe and we decide to tell them to cover themselves, because we don't want to corrupt some saints, and we make the film and show it without showing them naked, we have lied to our audience and we have also lied to posterity. But if we show them as we saw them in their natural state, we have told the truth and history will vindicate us for documenting the facts of the history of the Naked Koma Tribe of Nigeria.
