Nigeria Vs Venezuela: Super Eagles Player Ratings by Bubemi: 10:03pm On Nov 15, 2012
Here are the ratings of how our new look eagles performed against a full strength Venezuela side

8 – Austin Ejide

Nigeria’s man of the match as he pulled off several big saves particularly in the first half which Venezuela dominated. He was commanding between the sticks and should now press Vincent Enyeama for the Eagles No.1 shirt.

7.5 – Solomon Kwambe

The 19-year-old right back capped his debut with a great display especially going forward. He provided the assist for the first goal with a superb ball across the face of the post for Ideye to finish off.

7 – Elderson Echiejile

He was commanding at left back again and often covered for the fumbling centre halves. He knew when to join the attack and was a real stumbling block to striker Solomon Rondon as he cut him off time and time again.

4 – Godfrey Oboabona

He struggled and was shaky. He generally lacked composure and gave away balls in the vital area one of which led to the Venezuela goal.

4.5 – Azubuike Egwuekwe

The giant central defender was sluggish and not commanding as he could not form any meaningful combination with Oboabona in the heart of the back four. He lost his man several times and his passing was terrible. He did not make a strong case for him to be included on the squad to the AFCON.

7.5 – Nosa Igiebor

The Real Betis playmaker had a brilliant game in the midfield. He was an ever-present in the middle dictating the pace and spraying razor sharp passes. He started the move for the first goal and his superb 40-yard volley for second goal was superb.

4 – Henry Uche

Started well and was combining well with Igiebor and Onazi before he was substituted in the 33rd minute due to injury. He didn’t have much time on the pitch to really show what he is capable of but he showed great tactical awareness.

7 – Ogenyi Onazi

The SS Lazio midfielder was one of the top performers of the night as he was everywhere on the pitch marking and delivering good passes. He thwarted several attacking moves of Venezuela. He scored a fine goal on his second game and first start for Eagles. But he could do better by not dwelling too much on the ball.

6 – Bright Dike

A surprise starter who almost scored on his debut but for the bravery of Venezuela goalkeeper. Powerful, very mobile, tenacious, very fit and relentless in harrying defenders. Certainly a decent shift by the US-based midfielder to brighten his Eagles chances.

5 – Obafemi Martins

A lot was expected of the Levante striker, but it seems he tried to do too much and at the end of the day he was a pale shadow of his former self. He played too deep in the midfield and twice when played on goal, he could not find the back of the net. Not a convincing showing for a man of such high standards.

7 – Brown Ideye

He got a chance to show he should be considered for the AFCON after some great displays for his Ukrainian club Dynamo Kiev and he took it with both hands. He was denied twice by the goalkeeper Daniel Hernandez though he could have done better with his first chance when put clean through instead of shooting straight at the keeper.

5 – Raheem Lawal

A first-half substitute for the injured Henry Uche did just enough, even though he lost the ball at least twice in dangerous positions. He did not lack commitment.

5.5 – Shola Ameobi

The Newcastle United man finally debuted for the Eagles and made an appreciable impact as he provided the assist for Onazi’s third goal. His hold-up play was great and he brought his taem mates intoplay with an influential display. Merits another look. Given a decent chance, he could be a valuable addition to the squad to South Africa.

4 – Ejike Uzoenyi

He was a substitute and was then replaced after 20 minutes. He struggled again as his tricks failed to work against the South Americans. he is gradually working his way out of the Eagles frame

Sunday Mba: Did not enjoy enough playing time to be rated as he came on for Nosa Igiebor in the 90th minute.

Umar Zango: Like Mba, the Kano Pillars defender cannot be rated as he was a stoppage time substitute for Uzoenyi.
