BlackBerry Is Posting Continuous Losses simply because it's losing ground in Europe and America! Any big international company that is losing its market share in Europe and America [maybe Asia, in some cases] is heading towards failure. A company that loses its share in Africa, but gains in America and/or Europe will be better off than a company that gains some market share in Africa, but is losing in America and/or Europe. For example, Apple has very little market in Africa, yet that doesn't stop it from topping the list of world's mobile devices manufacturers, because it has a very strong hold in Europe and America...

Reasons:

Market depth is an important factor.

Some estimates put it this way;

GDPs:
Africa: $2 trillion.
Europe: $15.8 trillion.
USA: $15 trillion.

Imagine. Africa's GDP is just about 6% of total GDPs of Europe and the United States of America.

Income and consumption levels. Apart from the huge European and American markets, there are high levels of consumption and income, which boost business profits.

You see fairly used products coming from America to Nigeria; have you ever seen where products used in Nigeria are shipped to Europe or America? As these "fairly" used products are being shipped to Nigeria, they're producing more new ones and models, which would be bought, used and shipped to Africa. Every year, big companies dole out new models of their products, and millions would be sold. When these products come to Africa, the owners will use them for years, repairing and repairing them over and over, while newer models are being produced and sold over there.

You'll agree with me that fairly used BlackBerry devices is a big market in Nigeria, and this adds no value to RIM revenue, because trade on "Tokunbo" is a mere transfer of ownership among users, no additional revenue for the manufacturers. In fact, it will even prevent them from making new sales.

Fantastic analysis, now I have no regrets that the bulk of 5,000+ GidiLinks users are from other parts of the world.
