Yahoo boss Think BlackBerry Is Not a Smartphone?

Several improvements were made by Research In Motion (RIM) on BlackBerry 10 (BB 10) seems not to make Yahoo CEO interested. In fact, in an interview, Marissa Mayer said she asked her employees to “do not use” BlackBerry.

“One of the most important part of Yahoo’s strategy is to move into mobile. So it is important for our employees, whoever it is to understand Android, iPhone, and Windows 8 is a trend in terms of providing an exceptional experience …, so we decided we ask all employees to upgrade their smartphone, “Mayer said as quoted from BGR, Thursday (11/29/2012).

From the statement expressed by Marissa Mayer, it can be said interesting, because Mayer did not mention BlackBerry as a device to be used by her employees. Through this statement, Mayer seemed to show that she considers the BlackBerry does not included in the smartphone category.

In addition, several changes promised by RIM on BlackBerry 10 does not seem to make Mayer attracted. In fact, in terms of security, BlackBerry 10 has been certified by Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 from the National Institute of Standards and Technology some time ago.

FIPS is one of the minimum requirements to allow the product to be used by government institutions and industry to collect, store, transfer, share and disseminate sensitive information.

So, with that certification, BB10 can be said to be superior in the security, and for government institutions do not have to worry about sensitive information stored on BB 10 smartphones.

Who is Marisa Mayer, does she merit attention? The anwser is NO. She is like every other person on employment list of a company. She has NEVER started her own company but prefers jumping from one company to the other. She is not an enterpreneur, so does not know what it takes to establish a company and run it successfully. She was hired from Google to Yahoo to turn things around for Yahoo whose fortune is dwindling. From available data her input into revitalization of yahoo is a far cry from the expectation and aspiration of yahoo board members. She has excelled in castigating Blackberry openly which is unbecoming of any CEO. The logical thing to do is to away from any product you dont like instead of keeping yourself busy talking about it always.
